Which is better: IIIT-Delhi CSE or DTU CSE?

TA

Lives in New Delhi

I had the same choice in front of me a few years back. As a student of DTU, I can present before you some pros of choosing it over IIIT Delhi for CSE. These are-

  1. DTU will provide you with ample time to explore your interests. These can be anything- coding, dancing, music, sports, drama, etc.
  2. You’ll have less academic pressure. With one to two hours of routine self-study, you can score good grades.
  3. You’ll have more time and energy for GATE, CAT, or GRE preparation.
  4. You’ll get excellent peers and a large and lush green campus. The campus is spread across 164 acres.
  5. DTU has great fests. These are- Engifest (cultural), Aahvaan (sports), Yuvaan (Literary), and Invictus (Technical). You’ll also enjoy DJ nights at the campus.
  6. It has a strong alumni network and brand value.

However, the CSE curriculum at IIIT Delhi is more up-to-date. Also, as DTU has a huge number of students for CSE, the competition is high.

Despite these cons, I believe DTU CSE is a better choice. But your decision should be based on your personal preferences.

Is DTU better than NIT Jalandhar, Jamshedpur, Raipur and Silchar?

TD
Tushar Dubey Posted On : December 5th, 2022
B.Tech in Production and Industrial Engineering, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2018)

There is nothing such as a better college. It all depends on where you want to see yourself 10 years from now. But considering the current scenario, DTU is ahead of NIT Jalandhar.

  • Being located in the capital, the environment and culture at DTU are better. You will also get to avail better facilities here.

  • You can prepare for TOFEL, CAT, UPSC for which the college institutes in Delhi are best.

Apart from this, the placement scenarios are equally good at both colleges. The only thing better at NIT Jalandhar is its tag.

How is college life at DTU/NSIT as compared to Thapar University?

AM
Agnish Mukherjee Posted On : August 8th, 2023
BE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

My brother completed his B.Tech from Thapar University while I am doing my B.Tech from DTU. These are some points about both-

  1. Teaching and Learning Environment- Be it Thapar University, DTU or any other university/college, the truth is that the faculty seems least interested in teaching and the students seem disinterested in learning. However, like everywhere else, both these institutions are filled with talented and hardworking students who beat all the obstacles and pave their path to success. At the end, it all boils down to your individual choices and your determination.
  2. Hostel Life- During your hostel life you will attract people like you. Gamers and coders have their own groups, extroverts have their own. It is your individual preferences that will decide your hostel life and friend circle.
  3. Crowd- Crowd is what differentiates Thapar University from DTU. People at DTU are more open-minded. But even Thapar has a good number of intellectuals.

It is ultimately your own personality that will determine the course of your four years at either of these. Both Thapar University and DTU are great institutions.

How is NIT Delhi as compared to other colleges in Delhi like NSIT, IGDTUW, IIIT-D, and DTU?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : October 11th, 2023

Here is a detailed comparative analysis of NIT Delhi with other Delhi colleges like NSIT, IGDTUW, IIIT Delhi, and DTU on the basis of some common factors

  • Academics: The quality of education offered is more or less the same in all these aforementioned institutes. The professors focus more on research work than on delivering theoretical concepts.
  • Curriculum: The NIT Delhi curriculum has been updated recently and has become extremely challenging and rigorous almost at par with the IITs.
  • Campus Life: All these institutes except NIT Delhi have excellent cultural and tech fests. NIT Delhi needs to work on this aspect the most as its students lack organizational skills.
  • Sports: NITDelhi has all the equipment and resources necessary for a good sports environment. Students of NIT Delhi can be seen actively participating in inter-NIT and sports fest.
  • Clubs: NIT Delhi has many tech and cultural clubs that conduct a variety of activities. However, its club culture is not as active as in other Delhi colleges like DTU and NSIT.
  • Startup culture: NIT Delhi professors encourage its students in this area. In fact, one of the ur seniors was invited to stay in Rashtrapati Bhavan as his project based on meteorological phenomena was selected for its innovative technique.

Overall, NIT Delhi may not be at par with other well-established Dego colleges but it's slowly climbing the ladder and may surpass them in no time.

Are DTU placements comparable to old IITs?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : July 3rd, 2023

Yes, DTU placements are certainly comparable to old IITs. Last year DTU recorded excellent placement statistics and even average students managed to secure hefty packages. However, comparing DTU placements with old IITs, it’s a no-brainer that old IITs still are leading the game. Here is a comparison based on my observations

  • The top 20–25% of offers received by DTU Students can be compared with a ‘mid-tier’ offer from an old IIT. Some offers are equivalent to a top-tier IIT offer also.
  • The subsequent 15–20% offers at DTU can be compared with bottom-tier offers from an old IIT.
  • Approximately, 40–45% of the total offers in DTU are comparable with old IITs.

The determining factors for the quality of offers are usually CTC, type (core/non-tech/tech), the brand name of the firm, the role offered, etc.

Are courses in DTU and NSIT flexible? Can students from lower branches study a minor in C.S. easily?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 19th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

As an NSUT student, the new CBCS (choice based credit system) allows you to choose your fields of study. This makes for more flexible courses. Also, NSUT has an excellent coding environment which will help you for your minor in Computer Science. Many students over there pursue coding, despite being from a branch other than IT/COE.

In DTU, you will have electives starting from 5th semester. These are department and general electives. IIIT Delhi offers the most flexible courses. Other than some fixed category credits, all the subjects are choice based.

Thus, in terms of providing flexible courses, this is the order of preference- IIITD> NSUT>DTU.
