Is IIIT Allahabad a tier 1 college?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : October 13th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Yes, IIIT Allahabad is certainly a tier-1 college. Although tier-1 is a broad category I can only think of 4 IIITs that fall into this category namely

  • IIIT Hyderabad
  • IIIT Bangalore
  • IIIT Allahabad
  • IIIT Delhi

The remaining IITs can be termed as tier 2 and tier 3.

Between IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Delhi, which one should I choose for CS?

DS
Devesh Sinha Posted On : April 13th, 2022
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

Between IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Delhi, the former is the better option for CS. It offers better facilities are infrastructure, as the institute is fully funded by MHRD. On the other hand, IIIT Delhi isn’t funded by MHRD. It is also an Indraprastha institute and not an Indian institute.

IIIT A has a large alumni base working in top-level product development companies, this helps a lot with placements. As per the placement highlights for 2021, IIIT Allahabad CSE average package is INR 21.85 LPA.

The CSE department of the institute has an amazing faculty pool. Most of the faculty members have a minimum of 15-20 years of research experience in the core field of Computer Scienece and Engineering.

VV
Vidya Vardhan Posted On : July 5th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (2019)

This is a very interesting question, as it is always better to get to know more about the institute you are willing to join. Being a student here myself, I might be able to help you with the question.

Here’s listing certain things you should know before joining IIIT Allahabad:

  • IIIT-A is known to be one of the best colleges in India for Coding.
  • Unlike other colleges, IIIT A had a beautiful infrastructure to support the learning culture of the college.
  • The faculty members were helpful and cooperative. They will even encourage you without a coding background to work hard, as you are confident about teaching them properly from the basics.
  • The hostels are well equipped and very well maintained. They provide a bed, almirah, table, chair, and other necessary items to manage accordingly.
  • You get access of high-speed internet right from your 1st year (with both LAN AND wi-fi are available)
  • Do not depend on the caretaker if you need or to buy something, try to arrange it yourself.

Students are taught C language in the first semester so, you can proceed with and further learn C++ as well and master the languages. These are some things, knowing which might help you take the first step.

When are the vacations in iiit Allahabad?

SG
Sanchita Ghose Posted On : May 11th, 2021
IIIT Allahabad (2017)

I have some friends at IIIT Allahabad, so I can give you an idea about the vacations. During the four-month-long semester, IIIT Allahabad offers two vacations.

  • One of these two vacations is a mid-semester break, which usually commences one and a half months after the starting of the semester. The mid-semester break is usually about 6-7 days long.
  • At the end of semesters, there’s also an end semester break. End semester break is usually one month long for odd semesters and two and a half months for even semesters.

This should give you an idea of the vacations in IIIT Allahabad. You will find more information regarding the same on the official website of the institute.

How good is business informatics in IIIT Allahabad (in terms of placement and curriculum), and what is its cutoff?

SS
Somya Srivastav Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.Tech at Aligarh Muslim University (2018)

Business Informatics was chosen by one of my friends at IIIT Allahabad. So, I will be able to share some of his experiences. The course mainly focuses on business and technology domains. The faculty is very helpful and supportive and you feel like home here.

Placements:

  • The branch was established in 2019 which is why there are currently no placement statistics.
  • However, you can assume that they are almost the same as IT, because after all, it's an IT branch, and then BI as a specialisation.
  • You don't need to worry about placements, because it's really a worthy discipline.

Cutoffs: If you are in the general category, the cut-off was approximately 7100 according to the last year. Perhaps this year also the cut-off will be similar due to low deviation. The Cut-off stats of 2020 of JEE Mains by NTA are as follows:

GEN

70.24

Other Backward Classes (OBC)

72.88

Scheduled Caste (SC)

50.17

Scheduled Tribe (ST)

39.06

The institute’s course curriculum covers all subjects of the IT branch, plus one additional subject for BI. It will be quite difficult for you to cope up with all the subjects but if you work hard then it will be easier for you.

IIIT Allahabad

MANIT Bhopal

Median Salary

Rs. 20 lakhs

Rs. 6.23 lakhs

Highest Salary

Rs. 43 lakhs

Rs. 27 lakhs

Fees

Rs. 5.85 lakhs

Rs. 2.31 lakhs

Highlights:

  • IIIT Allahabad is a premier institute renowned for its IT branch.
  • Every year around 85% of students get settled with their dream jobs.
  • BI students also go for IT companies and get placed respectively.
  • Core Bioinformatics companies don't visit the campus usually, but product-based companies like Amazon, Directi, etc offer handsome packages.

Overall, IIIT Allahabad is the potential choice as the faculty and infrastructure are good and all the previous year’s students have been placed with good packages.

The hostel rooms at IIIT Allahabad are pretty decent. A typical room comprises a bed, a table, a chair, and an almirah. However, you might be disappointed by the initial condition of your room. You will have to modify it as per your needs. The room is pretty spacious around 10x8 ft in size.

Which is best: IT at MNNIT, Allahabad; IT at IIIT, Allahabad; CSE at BIT, Mesra; or CSE at MANIT, Bhopal?

SR
Swati Rajan Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.Tech Mathematics and Computing, Delhi Technological University (2018)

My brother is currently studying IT at IIIT Allahabad and according to his first-hand experience and your interest in IT, the order of preference for you should be:

IIITA>MNNIT>BITM>MANIT

It is because if you are genuinely interested in IT then IIIT Allahabad is the best option you can choose because of the following key points:

  • The campus is well equipped in terms of infrastructure and facilities and the coding culture is quite good there. Also, it is an institute specifically made for IT, so the infrastructure is planned according to it.
  • The course structure at IIIT Allahabad is also strikingly different from what you'll find at any other engineering college in India. It focuses a lot on programming and electronics-related subjects, right from the first year itself.

In NITs, you need to study a lot of subjects not at all related to your branch or course!

However, MNNIT or BIT Mesra may prove to be better options in case you realize that computers are not your cup of tea and decide to go into the non-tech sector. You will have a lot of diverse companies visiting these campuses, while in IIIT Allahabad you’ll see only IT companies coming to recruit.

Also, JEE Main rank of all the options you mentioned will differ from each other. So your rank also plays a major role in selection.

What is the median salary at IIIT Allahabad?

DB
Dishari Banerjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2021)

If you go through the placement brochure, you will come to know about other significant details such as the campus life, coding culture, and also the placement procedure.

If you look through the official website of IIIT Allahabad, you will come across the following data:

Year

Average Salary

Highest Salary

Percentage of students placed

No. of companies visited

2019-20

20.83 LPA

43 LPA

96%+

120+

2018-19

15.5 LPA

39 LPA

95%+

120+

2017-18

13.25LPA

36LPA

95%+

120+

2016-17

12.5LPA

39LPA

95%+

98

Note that they provide information only about the average salary and the highest salary. There is no information regarding the median salary on the official website.

There is a difference between average salary and median salary. Average salary is the sum of the salaries of all the students divided by the number of students. This includes the highest salary as well and therefore, can be higher. The median salary is the salary that is exactly in the middle of the list of salaries of all the students. Half of the students will be above it and half will be below it. Hence, the average salary is generally higher than the median salary.
