Which is best, ECE at NIT Srinagar or CS in HBTI Kanpur?

AD
Arushi Debnath Posted On : April 19th, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engineering & Paint Technology, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur (2021)

Considering this question, the first criteria are always the student’s preferences. According to that, they should choose the colleges, either NIT Srinagar or HBTI Kanpur.

NIT Srinagar is a reputed institute; additionally, HBTU is also an ancient and esteemed institute. The new Vice-Chancellor of the second one is completely dedicated to institutional development, and the institute is developing radically over the past few years.

Besides, if you consider the placement facts, then CSE is just edged that ECE regarding the CTC. But, ECE also has several opportunities in both Government and private sectors. It is also quite close considering the placements facts to CSE because IT companies also allow ECE students to sit in the recruitment process.

In the following, a brief overview has been given considering the placement facts of these two institutes.

Criteria

NIT Srinagar

HBTU

Highest CTC

30 LPA

37 LPA

Lowest CTC

5 LPA

7.18 LPA

Average CTC

6-8 LPA

10 LPA

Placement Statistics

90%

Another important thing that you may consider is that location is which institute is nearer to your home.

So, it can be concluded that both of these institutes are equally good. One of my friends was a former student of HBTU, so he was quite partial to his institute, as he studied there, so he knew better.

From the year 2018, to get admission to HBTU, the student has to qualify 12th standard board exam from UP, or their parents must belong to the UP domicile.

With a rank of 5,484 in JEE Mains, can I get IT at IIIT Allahabad?

SB
Supriyo Banerjee Posted On : March 15th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2020)

It will be tough to secure admission at IIIT Allahabad with a 5,484 JEE Mains rank. IIIT Allahabad became quite popular among students for the coding culture. Due to this craze, the cutoff rank is decreasing each passing year. The required cutoff for the institute in recent years is given below.

BTech Information Technology

Cutoff

General

1291-7057

1165-3314

OBC

503-2060

388-1450

SC

687-1101

206-324

ST

122-440

18-49

Going by the cutoff trends of recent years, it will be quite difficult to get admission with a rank of 5,484. The 5-years integrated program is also quite good at IIIT Allahabad. With this rank, you are likely to secure admission to a branch of your choice to the integrated program.

Should I choose 5 years (I.T. + robotics) at IIIT Allahabad or 5 years CSE at IIEST Shibpur?

RR
Radhika Roy Posted On : March 24th, 2021
Studied B.Tech at IIEST Shibpur (2019)

There’s no doubts about the fact that 5 years at IIITA is a smarter option compared to anything else. This is because of the simple calculation that you are going to study the same curriculum for 4 years BTech for 3 years. That is all about the core of CS and IT. One core and two electives are a part of the fourth year in a 4-year BTech program, which hardly makes any difference.

According to the experts, Robotics is the future of the IT industry and hence, finding yourself in the midst of such an academically enriching atmosphere which ensures a full time access to a premium robotics laboratory and esteemed faculty will certainly do good to you in more ways than you can ever imagine. That’s the kind of right exposure you are looking at.

Moreover, this department at IIIT Allahabad is being funded by MHRD, thus having a lot of helpful and positive influence from the big academic and administrative circles from all over the country. A number of international conferences sponsored by IEEE are held here regularly. A DST funded summer school of robotics is also a part of this institute. IIIT Allahabad is known to have multiple MOUs with various popular foreign universities and has extensive student exchange programs to give the best exposure of the industry and experts to its students.

Which is better, ECE at VIT Vellore or metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh?

KS
Khushi Sharma Posted On : May 4th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

My brother had the option of VIT for CSE on merit still he chose PEC metallurgy. There are various reasons as to why he took that decision:

  • VIT is more expensive. Even if he had gone on merit, it would have cost him much more than PEC.
  • Placements in core companies in ECE are negligible. You can sit for IT companies, but they pay less to ECE undergraduates than CSE counterparts.
  • If you are a north Indian, culturally VIT might be different and might take time to adjust.
  • Metallurgy is an undervalued branch in India; many of my seniors are pursuing MS from Germany, the United States, and France, and some have gone to IIMs and FMS with strong credentials.
  • One of our seniors received a PPO of 15 lakhs, which is more than many students from elite branches.
  • You can choose to upgrade, but you'll quickly realize that it's not that simple because the grading criteria favors those who are less deserving (no offense).
  • Whether you accept it or not, those who claim that placement in metallurgy is poor (as it is in all branches except CS/IT) are correct. Placements in the core are hard to come by.
  • Only 4000 people in GATE are from metallurgy, whereas there are 1.8 lakh from CSE and 2.1 lakh from Mechanical, implying that the probability of you getting a PSU is greater than that of a mechanical engineer.

Categories

ECE at VIT Vellore

Metallurgy at PEC Chandigarh

Course Fee

6.39 lakh

Average CTC

Deloitte, Bank of America, IBM, HCL, etc.

ZS Associates, Amazon, JP Morgan, JSW Steels, etc.

I personally believe VIT is overrated because a friend who did not even pass mains received 2000 AIR in VITEEE. In the CBSE 2016 boards, he scored 78 percent, which was below average.

Which is the best college for electrical engineering, L.D. or BVM?

AM
Ankit Mishra Posted On : June 8th, 2021
B.E. Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering in Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (2018)

One of my friends was in L.D and another close friend graduated from BVM. Thus, it would be easy to put the points together and compare which one’s the best.

  • Both the colleges are prominent and quite old. They both are government colleges hence, the fee structure is also similar.
  • If we compare the campus life of both the colleges, my friend from L.D. mentioned that the campus life of his college is lively as the students have the freedom to indulge in other activities than studies. Whereas BVM is quite strict and does not have many campus resources.
  • The professors in BVM are well-experienced and approachable.
  • The lab facilities at BVM are great.
  • BVM has a central location in VV Nagar.
  • There are no hostel facilities at BVM.
  • The recruiting companies are almost the same for BVM and L.D apart from the local companies. Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes.
Parameters BVM L.D
Average CTC 3.1 LPA 4.5 LPA
Highest CTC 8 LPA 7-8 LPA

So, go through these points, do your own research and choose the institute best suited for you.

TB
Tathagata Banerjee Posted On : May 21st, 2022
B.Tech from SVKM's NMIMS (2016)

For a B.Tech NMIMS is better than Symbiosis Pune. It offers better placements and exposure. NMIMS placements are pretty good for B.Tech. Students receive an average CTC of around INR 6-7 LPA. NMIMS also offers better exposure to students. Due to the locational advantage, it’s easier for students to get good internships and placement opportunities.

How is the mechanical branch at Navrachana University in Vadodara?

RJ
Rahul Joshi Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Navrachana University (2019)

Most of the faculty members at Navrachana University are alumni from IITs and it is worth it to pursue Mechanical engineering. This university is a good place if you want to prepare for the GATE examinations. It follows the exact syllabus for GATE and engineering services.

The pattern of teaching at Navrachana University is different from that of Gujarat Technological University (GTU). You will be asked questions in any pattern in the examination. You will not be asked to follow any standard books but a lot of reference books instead.

Following is the pattern of examination followed by Navrachana University:

  • 2 quizzes - 15 marks each
  • 1 mid-semester exam - 30 marks
  • 1 end semester exam - 40 marks

The mid-semester and quizzes are considered like internal assessments in which scoring a minimum of 18 marks are mandatory to be eligible for the end semester exam. Scoring a minimum of 12 marks is mandatory in the end-semester exam. If you fail to obtain the minimum marks, you will have to appear for the exams again.

A minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory otherwise you will not be allowed to appear for the exams. Do not bunk the lectures as they are very informative and you will enjoy every bit of it. However, the environment at the campus is chill and no one will force you to attend the classes.

Is Nirma University or UPES, Dehradun, better for a B.Tech?

NJ
Nikhil Juneja Posted On : July 29th, 2021
B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Nirma University (2017)

UPES Dehradun does not have a good enough reputation as it does not appear anywhere in the national rankings. On the other hand, Nirma University ranks among the top institutes. It is often in the top 50 best colleges in the country. It is one of the best in Gujarat and is also on equal footing with most of the NITs.

If you want to pursue CSE at Nirma University, the placements offers will be lucrative. The packages can go as high as INR 18 LPA. There are also tons of activities organized by the university which take place every now and then. You can participate in those for honing your skills.

A friend of mine used to be a student of Nirma University and he came across a few students of UPES Dehradun while he was doing an internship. From what he gathered, he thinks the institute is not up to the mark and leaves a lot to be desired. UPES Dehradun focuses more on technological knowledge.

You can opt for Nirma University for B.Tech without any second thought. The university offers great industrial exposure for the course.

Which one's better, CSE at NIT Jalandhar or CSE at PEC, Chandigarh?

VK
Varsha Kashyap Posted On : April 30th, 2021
B.Tech in Computer Science, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2019)

PEC Chandigarh is a better option for Computer Science and Engineering, considering the factors of placement, curriculum, and the overall development of the students in the institute.

The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two institutes.

Particulars

PEC Chandigarh

NIT Jalandhar

NIRF ’20 Ranking

68

52

Total Fees (B.Tech)

Rs. 4.6 Lakhs

Rs. 6.8 Lakhs

Average Salary Offered (CSE)

Rs. 12-13 LPA

Rs. 5-6 LPA

Total Number of Seats (CSE)

111

158

Cut-off (CSE)

JEE Main - 8339

DASA UG - 538

JEE MAIN - 6694

DASA UG - 809

Key Highlights:

  • The curriculum followed by PEC Chandigarh is very much similar to that of IITs. It is updated as per the requirements of the industry. This is a great advantage over the other as NIT Jalandhar follows the same syllabus followed by other NITs across India.
  • PEC Chandigarh provides proper facilities in the institute for the overall development of the student during the course.
  • Through the engagement of technical societies in PEC, students in CSE get exposure to an in-depth study of subjects relevant to Computer Science and Engineering.

Considering all the above factors, it can be concluded that PEC Chandigarh is, without doubt, a better choice for a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
