Which is better, CSE at Thapar University or CSE at Chandigarh University?

KP
Kirti Patel Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Btech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Graduated 2021)

Except for BITS Pilani, CSE at Thapar is far superior to any other university.

Chandigarh University does not offer better placements or opportunities. It's all just public relations to boost the college's image.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, on the other hand, is one of India's most prestigious and best engineering institutes. In the NIRF Government of India rankings, Thapar Institute of Engineering And Technology was ranked 23rd. For the last six years, the placement rate has been consistently higher than 90%. A total of 361 recruiters took part, recruiting 1622 students. Students were offered the highest package of INR 40 LPA, while the average package was INR 10.97 LPA.

Thapar University accepts students based on their JEE scores.

What is the average package of the COE branch at Thapar University?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : August 7th, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Thapar University does not release official data for branch-wise placements so I contacted a friend who is currently pursuing a COE course there.

As per the information he shared, the recent highest package received by a COE student at Thapar University stood at INR 39 lakhs while the average package of COE was in the range of 10-12 lakhs. The placement percentage is usually around 100% although only the most skilled ones receive packages above 10-15 LPA.

The kind of companies and the packages they offer depend on your soft and technical skills. Here, you have to work hard to get offers from the best companies else you will remain unplaced. It’s better to start preparing for the interviews in the 3rd year itself when you have to sit for internships.

Which is better placement-wise in the BITS: Goa or Thapar?

IP
Ishita Paul Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
M.Sc. + B.E Biological Science & Civil Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2020)

BITS Pilani Goa campus is obviously a much bigger brand than Thapar University. So you will definitely get better placement opportunities at the BITS Pilani Goa campus rather than Thapar University.

Take a look at some of the statistics of Thapar University for the year 2019-20.

Companies visiting 264
Total students placed 971
Total offers received 996
Number of single offers 946
Number of multiple offers 25

BITS Pilani does not release an official placement report. However, according to my friends at the institute, the average CTC offered at the institute is 5 LPA and the highest CTC offered is INR 1.4 crores.

Thapar University is better than Galgotias University for studying. Here in the following table, you will get basic information about both universities:

Parameters Galgotias University Thapar University
Fees INR 55,000 INR 13.23 Lakh
Average CTC 4 LPA 8 LPA
Highest CTC 12.40 LPA INR 43 LPA
Major recruiters Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, Ericsson, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, etc. HSBC, TCS, Zomato, Deloitte, Whirlpool, JP Morgan, etc.
  • Galgotias University was established later than Thapar University. Thapar University also has a name in industries that will help you in placement. The education quality and level of Galgotias University are not better when compared to Thapar University.
  • Thapar University has a legacy of over 60 years. It has a highly successful alumni base. The faculty base for Civil Engineering at Thapar is one of the best. A lot of companies come for campus placement at Thapar.

If you are genuinely interested in CS then go for Galgotias. However, if you make a comparison between Galgotias University and Thapar University, then the latter is a better option than the former in terms of quality of education, environment, and placement.

How can anyone get a CGPA of 9.6+ after the first year in Thapar University?

TS
Tania Sharma Posted On : August 8th, 2023
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

To get a 9.6+ CGPA in your first year at Thapar University, follow these tips with diligence-

  1. Learn about CLO’s - Course Learning Objectives for each subject.
  2. Sit in the front rows and listen to the lectures attentively.
  3. Pay ample attention to the theoretical part of your course.
  4. Solve all the tutorial sheets on your own. Seeking help is acceptable but do not copy.
  5. Go through the previous year question papers and solve those questions.
  6. Set a target for 75% in each exam. This will help you achieve your goal.
  7. Always sleep well the night before the exam. Do not forget to take your calculator, Id card and stationery to the exam hall.

I would also like to break down the entire marking scheme for you. At Thapar University, there are around 47 credit points for all the subjects of 1st year. Therefore, you must secure 452 credit points by the end of your first year (47*9.6). Make sure to not get below A- in any subject.

As far as A grades are concerned, you will get an A grade for 29/47+ credit points. Credit per subject ranges from 2.5 to 5, mark the top 7 subjects in which your aggregate credits will make up more than 29. Approach your teachers and ask them how many marks would you need to score an A in their subject. If they do not give you a clear answer, ask them about the situation in the previous year. This way you will get a better picture of how much you need to score.

Getting a 9.5+ CGPA in your first year at Thapar is a bit difficult but not impossible. For this, you will have to stay in the list of top 90-100 students in your batch.

Should I take CSE at Thapar University or CSE at IIIT Guwahati?

PS
Pravat Singh Posted On : April 29th, 2021
B.Tech CSE from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

Well, this all depends upon your choice of preference.

  • If you are going after a brand name then you can choose IIIT Guwahati. Also, it is worth joining IIIT’s of all new ones for their coding culture is on a boom.
  • If you are planning to prepare for MBA, Civil Services, MS abroad then choosing IIIT G is a better choice.
  • If you find the IIIT tag more appealing go for it. Yes, infrastructure wise Thapar University gives a quiet edge to many IIITs and NITs.
  • See, you’re comparing different branches, from which I can directly conclude that you’re interested in CSE more. So, keep this factor in mind too while deciding.
  • If you are getting IIIT it means you do hold a good rank. That means you are okay with getting into IIITG even with high fees. If you have got a board percentage of 95+ you can get a 100% TF+DF waiver right from 1st semester.
  • One of the important factors for choosing an institute is fees, if you are okay with higher course fees, you can definitely opt for Thapar. Infrastructure at Thapar is way better as compared to IIITs and NITs.

This was an overall review on IIITG and Thapar University. Factor all these in and make a wise decision.
