IIT Madras (IITM) is ranked 1st in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2019. They have a strong and highly qualified faculty of 630 members, most of them being PhD holders and have a student strength of 6638.

BTech in IITM is a 4 year full time undergraduate course. Students after completing their 10+2 and securing a JEE Advanced rank can apply for a BTech program.

BTech and MTech dual degree is a 5 year course which will give students a both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Technology or Engineering. 

Process of Conversion into a Dual degree

• The change will be initiated at the end of the 1st semester.
• Overall GPA of the 1st semester will be considered.
• This might depend on the vacancies.
• The process involves filling out a form and signing with the Faculty Advisor and HoD.
• The strength of a class should not fall below the existing strength by more than 10% and should not go above the sanctioned strength by more than 10% percent.
• The cut off of the CGPA is 7.5 and higher.
• After the 7th semester it is not allowed to change the degree from BTech to Dual degree.

The advantages of taking a dual degree (BTech + MTech) gives the students an opportunity to receive both degrees with a year to spare. Unlike doing BTech and MTech separately which will take 6 years to complete whereas a dual degree will take 5 years to complete.

Admission

CSE at IIIT Jabalpur, NIT Raipur and NIT Jalandhar:

Students must have passed 12th standard with 75% marks with Maths and Physics. A valid score in JEE Main is mandatory.

ECE at NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Kurukshetra, and NIT Hamirpur: 

Students must have passed 12th standard with 75% marks with a valid score in JEE Main.

Faculty:

CSE:

• The faculty members at NIT Jalandhar are top-notch and offer training and workshop opportunities which in turn help students in becoming industry-ready. 
• While the teachers at IIIT Jabalpur and NIT Raipur are helpful and well-qualified, NIT Jalandhar have recruited the best faculty for CSE compared to the others.

ECE:

• NIT Kurukshetra definitely stands out in providing the best faculty members who are responsible for not only a great teaching experience but also guide students through core concepts using live demonstrations and seminars. 
• NIT Jamshedpur and Hamirpur are not far behind, but comparatively, NIT Kurukshetra has the best faculty.

Based on the given factors, students can make an informed choice between the given institutions for ECE or CSE depending on their preferences and requirements.

ET Lucknow is an autonomous constituent college of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). It is considered one of the tier 3 engineering colleges in the state and most of the students from the institute pass out with an average salary of INR 3 – 4 lakhs per annum to work as clerks in service-based companies which cannot be termed great in any sense.

Electrical Engineering as a discipline is also very dead and there will be very few core companies who will offer jobs.

The skills demanded by the industry are not being supplied by the students and thus placements are lower. If the colleges start implementing changes and upskill their students the situation will definitely improve. But as it stands today, the placements are grim.

BITS is the better choice among all as CSE has more scope than ECE. And NIT Surathkal is an old institute with a better placement record than IIT Bhubaneswar. 

Since BITS Hyderabad is the newest among all other campuses and it certainly is a little behind in terms of faculty, infrastructure, etc. But when compared on a national level it is on par with any other institute. It provides the students with a prime location to look for internships and also provides an edge to them if they are opting for off-campus placements. Although the institute provides students with decent opportunities for on-campus placements also. Around 200 companies visit the campus each year and around 94% of the student secured a job through campus placements with an average package of around 5-6 lakhs per annum and the highest package offered was as high as 14 lakhs per annum.

NIT Surathkal is among the top NITs of this country. The placements of students of this branch are also good although NIT Trichy and Warangal have better placement records. The average placement package offered at this NIT is around 14.15 LPA and 100% placement was observed for B.Tech batches in last year’s placement drive.

ECE is one of the new branches that started at IIT Bhubaneswar starting from 2016. Hence the first batch of students will graduate in 2020. In 2019, the average CTC offered in this IIT was 11.44 LPA. Many core companies, software companies, PSU’s, etc. hire electrical engineers from IIT Bhubaneswar hence one can assume the same trend to be followed for electronics and communication engineering also but the result is yet to be seen.
