Which one to choose, lower NIT or College of engineering, Pune or DTU ?

DTU should be your priority. It is one of the oldest Indian Engineering institutions. It has a brand name and a good reputation. It has better placements, campus, college life, location, etc. than COEP. Only NIT Trichy and NIT Warangal are on par with DTU. Mechanical is a renowned branch at DTU. The Mechanical department has many innovations to its credit. For example, the first Biodiesel Lab in India.

I know someone who did his B.Tech Mechanical from COEP. He chose COEP over a top NIT. According to him, it was not a wise decision for his career. Teaching is done mostly in Marathi at COEP. Some of the faculty members are underqualified and not up to the mark. This made him lose interest in learning and resulted in poor personality development.

At NITs, you study with people from across India and this offers exposure to different cultures. The NIT brand also has its added advantages. NITs have a standard grading system known in the industry. When you graduate from COEP and go to, say IIMs, the grading system at COEP causes a lot of hassle. COEP does not offer cross-culture exposure. Though the labs at COEP are big, the equipment is outdated and non-functional.

A benefit is that COEP is located in Pune which is an automotive hub. Therefore, Mechanical students get to connect with the automotive industry. Pune automotive industry has a large number of COEP alumni. All this allows you to do a lot of live industry projects while on campus.

Overall, choose DTU and if you do not get admission into it, go for lower NITs.

How is the production and industrial engineering at DTU?

PT
Pranav Tigga Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2021)

Production and Industrial Engineering is a specialization branch of Mechanical Engineering. Most of the subjects are similar in both branches. DTU is a good college in India. Students securing decent JEE Mains rank are able to get admission in it. This branch has good prospects for the future in DTU.

Most people are concerned about future prospects in the branch they choose. For production and industrial engineering at DTU, these prospects are good. Many companies that recruit mechanical engineers are also open to this branch. In today's world, most of the jobs are in the IT sector. These companies want people with certain skills. They do not care about the branch of their employees. DTU has a good coding culture. Most of the students practice computer programming. There are clubs and some groups of students who help their friends and juniors to learn skills. These skills help them to make a good resume to impress the recruiters. If one has an interest in working in core companies, then also they have a chance at DTU. If one maintains a good academic profile and an exceptional achievement record, he is sure to get a core job.

This branch also includes learning of management skills which are very helpful. Students of this branch can also appear for GATE. This way they can get jobs at PSUs or complete M.Tech in this branch. The location of DTU is also a boon for the civil services aspirants. Delhi is known to have top coaching centers for civil service preparations. So the people aiming to crack UPSC can also opt for this college. Thus, if you see all advantages of opting for this branch in DTU, then it is quite a good option.

Is NIT Surathkal better than DTU?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 7th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Here are a few factors to consider while comparing NIT Surathkal and DTU.

  • Alumni network: NIT Surathkal has a better alumni pool and also has better harmony than NSIT and DTU alumni.
  • Startup culture: Located in close proximity to Bangalore, NIT Surathkal has a rich startup culture A few startups that were given birth by NIT Surathkal students are Nestaway, Practo, BHIVE, Taxiforsure, Quest software, etc. DTU also encourages entrepreneurship given the fact that it has given to startups like Father of Pentium and PayTM.
  • Location: NSIT is located in the heart of the capital city and enjoys maximum location benefits like connectivity to IGI Airport, Dwarka, and Gurgaon. DTU also has a great location and NIT Surathkal has the benefit of Bangalore access.
  • Brand name: The increasing number of NITs in every corner of the country has diluted the brand value to a great extent. This is not the case with DTU and NSIT who have been able to maintain their uniqueness and thus enjoy better brand names.

In all, all the 3 institutes you mentioned are prestigious institutes that will offer a plethora of opportunities in shaping your career. What matters is how well you grab the opportunities and climb the success ladder.

What should I opt for: Engineering Physics at DTU or EEE at MAIT (IP)?

DS
Dia Shetty Posted On : October 5th, 2020
Studied at Delhi Technological University (2017)

DTU is ranked at 36 amongst all engineering colleges in India by NIRF 2020. MAIT is ranked at 89 by the week for BTech.

The Engineering Physics program at DTU is related to applied physics and has electronics as a major subject and minor electives which include Nanoscience, Nuclear engineering, Photonics, space, and atmospheric science, etc. Whereas,EEE strictly focuses on electrical subjects and excludes minor electives.

Admission:

  • Both the colleges admit students through joint admission counseling (JAC) that is based on JEE scores.
  • A student needs to have a minimum of 60% for the general category and 55% for SC/ST/OBC categories in 10+2 to be eligible for admission.

Basis

DTU

MAIT

Intake

95( engineering physics)

180(EEE)

Total Fee

7.81 Lakhs

4.42 Lakhs

Cutoff

32602 (Home State)

8678 (Other State)

154753 (Home State)

63215 (Other State)

Placements: Both the colleges organize placement drives each year.

DTU-

  • Top recruiters at the institute are Amazon, Optium, Magicpin, Ion Trading, Wipro, Hitachi, etc.
  • The median salary ranges from 6.2 LPA to 9 LPA.
  • The placement rate is 87%.

Why should I take IIITD over NSIT and DTU?

VG
Vishal Gupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

Comparison of IIIT Delhi over DTU and NSIT should be based on some criteria:

  • Placement:

According to IIITD, in 2019 B.Tech CSE placed 98.96% of students and B.Tech ECE placed 94.59% of students. The average salary of the last batch is Rs. 15 lakhs. In the case of NSIT, they record around 90% of placement every year. The average salary of the last B.Tech batch is around 8 lakhs per year. DTU also gives around 11.17 lakhs per annum with 70-80% student’s placement per year.

  • Infrastructure:

Established in 2008, IIITD has a cutting edge infrastructure with high tech equipment. In NSIT, you might still find 2nd gen. computers.  The institute has no A.C facility in labs, classrooms. And in DTU, the operative condition of instruments is also weak, even not fully connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Facilities:

In the case of academic blocks and hostel facilities, IIITD has an auditorium and a total of 25 lecture halls of varying sizes. At present, there is one hostel for boys and one for girls. NSIT has 2 girl’s hostels and 2 boy’s hostels. Hostel life is wonderful in DTU. Hostel infrastructure is good along with badminton and TT court inside. There are 5 hostels for boys and 3 for girls.

  • Library:

In IIITD, the Library has a large collection of print and electronic media. With this, the institute has fully connected through the internet connection. The condition of the library of NSIT and DTU is also good, but the condition of books and print media is less compared to IIITD.

  • Fee structure:

IIITD is nearly Rs. 3,60,000 per year for B.Tech in 2019 -20, for M.Tech (CSE/ECE) 2019 it is nearly Rs.1,85,000 which is high as compare to NSIT where for B.Tech nearly  Rs. 1,66,000 per year (2019-20), and for M.Tech it is Rs. 1,86,000. Whereas DTU charges Rs. 1,95,000 for B.Tech and for M.Tech it is Rs. 1,66,000.

The IIITD got rank through NIRF 55th   in India. Whereas the NSIT ranked 11 among Engineering colleges by Outlook and 22 by the week in 2019. The DTU has got rank 36 for engineering by NIRF 2020.

Is 20,000 rank in JEE Main enough to get me a seat in DTU?

A
Admin Posted On : May 24th, 2024

First of all, congratulations on securing such an impressive rank in JEE Main 2024. I am a second year B.Tech IT student at DTU.

20,000 is a pretty good rank and it will open ample branch options for you, even more if you are a Delhi Candidate. I have mentioned below the previous year JEE MAIN cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU-

JEE MAIN 2023 Cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU (General Category)

Branch Non-Delhi Candidate Delhi Candidate
B.Tech Computer Engineering 6,224 13,345
B.Tech Information Technology 8,047 16,364
B.Tech Software Engineering 10,742 19,967
B.Tech Mathematics and Computing 14,191 22,844
B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering 17,427 31,328
B.Tech Electrical Engineering 26,778 45,966
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering 34,761 58,304
B.Tech Engineering Physics 35,157 60,976
B.Tech Automotive Engineering 38,448 68,769
B.Tech Chemical Engineering 1,55,628 97,229
B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering 1,67,573 99,535
B.Tech Civil Engineering 1,83,336 5,84,235
B.Tech Biotechnology 1,99,849 7,06,173
B.Tech Environmental Engineering 2,03,503 8,81,148

Unfortunately, a rank of 20,000 in JEE MAIN won’t fetch you a seat in Computer Engineering / IT / Software Engineering at DTU. You won’t get admission into Mathematics & Computing or ECE if you are a non-delhi candidate. But all the other branches will be most certainly open for you. In case you are a Delhi candidate, things will be even more in your favor.

I hope you choose a good branch at DTU, and begin your journey at this esteemed engineering college.

I am a non-Delhi candidate. Can I get admission at DTU with 92 percentile in JEE Main?

A
Admin Posted On : May 24th, 2024

I am myself a non-delhi candidate who got into B.Tech Computer Engineering at DTU in 2023. Since you haven’t mentioned your category, I am assuming that you are a general category candidate. A 92 percentile in JEE Main 2024 will roughly fetch you a rank between 94,001 to 95,000.

I am listing below the 2023 B.Tech cutoff for DTU to give you a general idea of the minimum marks required for admission-

JEE MAIN 2023 Cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU (General Category)

Branch Non-Delhi Candidate
B.Tech Computer Engineering 6,224
B.Tech Information Technology 8,047
B.Tech Software Engineering 10,742
B.Tech Mathematics and Computing 14,191
B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering 17,427
B.Tech Electrical Engineering 26,778
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering 34,761
B.Tech Engineering Physics 35,157
B.Tech Automotive Engineering 38,448
B.Tech Chemical Engineering 1,55,628
B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering 1,67,573
B.Tech Civil Engineering 1,83,336
B.Tech Biotechnology 1,99,849
B.Tech Environmental Engineering 2,03,503

As a non-Delhi candidate, things will be more difficult for you. However, you can expect admission into B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, and Environmental Engineering with 92 percentile in JEE MAIN 2024.

I got 94 percentile in JEE Main. Can I get a decent branch at DTU?

A
Admin Posted On : May 24th, 2024

94 percentile in JEE Main 2024 will roughly fetch you a rank between 69,801-70,000. I am assuming you are a general category candidate.

I have listed below the 2023 cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU to give you a basic idea of the current trend-

JEE MAIN 2023 Cutoff for B.Tech admissions at DTU (General Category)

Branch Non-Delhi Candidate Delhi Candidate
B.Tech Computer Engineering 6,224 13,345
B.Tech Information Technology 8,047 16,364
B.Tech Software Engineering 10,742 19,967
B.Tech Mathematics and Computing 14,191 22,844
B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering 17,427 31,328
B.Tech Electrical Engineering 26,778 45,966
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering 34,761 58,304
B.Tech Engineering Physics 35,157 60,976
B.Tech Automotive Engineering 38,448 68,769
B.Tech Chemical Engineering 1,55,628 97,229
B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering 1,67,573 99,535
B.Tech Civil Engineering 1,83,336 5,84,235
B.Tech Biotechnology 1,99,849 7,06,173
B.Tech Environmental Engineering 2,03,503 8,81,148

From this table it is clear that you won’t get a top branch at DTU with a 94 percentile (69,801-70,000 rank) in JEE Main 2024. However, you will surely get admission to a lower B.Tech branch like Chemical, Industrial & Production, Civil, Biotech, or Environmental Engineering.

(For the Delhi Quota, the candidate must have completed their class 11th and 12th from Delhi). DTU conducts engineering admissions through JAC Delhi Counselling.

The choice is ultimately yours to make. But if you are keen to get admission into DTU, you can surely opt for one of these branches.
