Is there any scope in industrial and production engineering in NIT Jalandhar?

Whatever the scope of the industry, the "average pack" one receives is determined by one's skills and abilities, not by the degree or institution.

Choose one track to which you can relate. Then, work hard to gain knowledge and skills so that you can one day demonstrate your worth to a selection board.

How do I choose between IIT Delhi engineering physics, civil, production & industrial, and chemical engineering?

PS
Pawan Sinha Posted On : April 5th, 2023
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2020)

I will restrict my answer to Engineering Physics and Chemicals only as I know the same only.

  • The major criterion followed at IIT Delhi by all the branches is a well-maintained CG. To secure good placements one has to constantly score a good CG throughout the program.
  • During your admission, the department does not play any role but your 85 percent constraint on minimum possible strength does.
  • Engineering Physics is a unique branch for those highly passionate about Physics and want to pursue higher studies in the same
  • To secure core jobs, one has to move to MTech in Engineering Physics from BTech in Engineering Physics.
  • For Chemical Engineering students, BTech is more than enough to secure decent packages and great research opportunities outside India.
  • Consultancy and Analytics jobs are offered equally to students of all the departments
  • Engineering Physics graduates usually take up consultancy or IT jobs
  • Chemical Engineering is the most laid-back department of IIT Delhi with very flexible academics thus making it easy to maintain a decent CG throughout.

I wouldn’t suggest anyone go for Engineering Physics if they have no intention of pursuing it later. Instead, look for other options in BTech and explore your interests.

Should I take production engineering at MNNIT Allahabad and try for a branch change or should I take CS in NIT Raipur?

VM
Vanas Mishra Posted On : April 29th, 2021

There will be a handful of seats available for branch change and branch modifications do not only occur when you fill in a form. You will have other brilliant and ambitious students to compete with.

Choosing the right branch:

If you are facing trouble choosing the right branch, you should remember the following things.

  • Don’t opt for a branch just because of the higher CTC, or college brand name, etc. Because the degree you will get is for life. So, make sure you are interested to work in the field that you are choosing.
  • Also, go through the syllabus given on the official website and see if you can do the coursework for the branch of your choosing.

The table below gives a brief overview of the two courses.

Parameters

MNIT Allahabad

NIT Raipur

Highest CTC

49 LPA

-

Average CTC

10.28 LPA

9.5 LPA

Course Fee

3.24 lakhs

5.52 lakhs

My brother was a student of MNNIT Allahabad and for his 1st year, the highest CGPA was 9.67, while many scored 9. So, the chances of branch upgradation are quite slim.

Which is a better option: aerospace engineering in IIT Kanpur or production and industrial engineering in IIT Delhi?

SN
Saugata Nayak Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

IIT Kanpur has several advantages over IIT Delhi. A few are mentioned below:

  • Unlike IIT Delhi, branch change facility is not restricted to the first year only and one can change branches even after the 2nd year
  •  IIT Kanpur offers an enriched campus life with great relations between students as well as students and faculty.
  • There are no LAN restrictions at IIT Kanpur whereas, IIT Delhi restricts usage of LAN from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Lastly, once you enter IIT, your branch rarely matters. Your placements solely depend on your CG, your skills, and the efforts you invested throughout. So, go for a branch that matches your area of interest and you are good to go.

What should I take: computer science, IIT Ropar, or production and industrial engineering, IIT Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Delhi and IIT Ropar are highly reputable institutes in India, and both have strong programs in production industrial engineering and computer science engineering, respectively. However, if I were in your place, I would have chosen IIT Delhi Production and Industrial Engineering. Here are some strong points supporting my stance

  • Location : Located in the capital city, IIT Delhi offers great access to coaching institutes for preparation for IAS, IES, GATE, or any other competitive exams. This won’t be possible at IIT Ropar.
  • Reputation: IIT Delhi's Overall ranking by NIRF is 3 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 while that of IIT Ropar is  33 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023.
  • Reputation: IIT Delhi is not just an institute it’s a brand that every recruiter and student is aware of.
  • Curriculum: IIT Delhi Production and Industrial Engineering has courses similar to Mechanical students so the job opportunities are also similar. Additionally, you can learn some management skills through subjects like industrial engineering subjects Quality control, Operations research, Production planning, and control, etc
  • Placements: IIT Delhi has a track record of excellent placements way better than IIT Ropar. It can further be understood through the table below

Particulars

IIT Delhi

IIT Ropar

Highest CTC

INR 2 CPA

INR 55 LPA

Average CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

INR 22.49 LPA

Median CTC

-

INR 16.62 LPA

Top Recruiters

American Express, Bajaj Auto, Boston Consulting Group, Enphase Solar Energy, Intel, Praxis Global Alliance, etc.

Google, Amazon, Ericsson

Considering everything, IIT Delhi is a better option than IIT Ropar. The opportunities, brand name, and academic environment you will have access to will be unmatched. However, if you have a specific inclination towards the CS branch and want to pursue a career in the same, you can also consider joining IIT Ropar as the CS branch has diverse job opportunities even for the average students.

B.Tech CSE, NIT Jalandhar (2019)

Product engineering is one of the oldest departments at NIT Jalandhar. Here is a brief outline of the Production Engineering course at the institute.

Total Fee

6.76 lakhs

Companies Visited

Samsung, ZS, Optum, etc.

Average CTC

8 lakhs

Highest Package

43 lakhs

The faculty of this department is really cooperative, they will not pressurize you during their B.Tech. It is your responsibility to take the initiative and explore the opportunities because you will not be spoon-fed in college. But you can always approach the faculty regarding any problem.

If we talk about the placement scenario, there are a good number of companies that come to the campus and you can only get placed if you study hard. The campus scenario for the previous years has not been good but it has still ranked among the best campus placements. You can also try and study some advanced courses in classes that will help you to improve your CV.
