IIT Patna MTech CSE placements are a bit lower than BTech students as most companies prefer BTech students over MTech students thus limiting their job opportunities. Is VNIT, Nagpur good for an MTech?
When opting for an M.Tech, one wishes to acquire more knowledge than our B.Tech counterparts. Apart from that, one thinks about placements, and the amount of time and effort required for teaching assistantship.
Except for a few specializations in Civil, ECE and CSE, VNIT fails to impart adequate knowledge, good placements and proper Phd. preparation for M.Tech students. As a result, most of us are forced to work in academia on a contract basis.
Moreover, VNIT is located in the outskirts. For making purchases, one has to go to the downtown area of Sitabuldi. This is highly inconvenient for hostelites. The mess food is of poor quality, and campus gates are shut post 10 pm.
The monthly stipend is very less when compared to the hostel and academic fee. Especially for the first two semesters, one has to depend on our parents for fee payment. On top of this, the hostel fee increases by 10% every year.
Some M.Tech specializations are good at VNIT. But in that case too, other factors go against this college. Thus, I won’t recommend VNIT Nagpur for an M.Tech.
How is the personal interview in IIT Kanpur for M. Tech selections?
One of my friends had appeared for VLSI MTech personal interview at IIT Kanpur and shared his experience of the same.
He was interviewed by 2 professors and one of them asked the reason for his poor marks after the first year. My friends told him about his lack of interest in the field and no core companies making it to the company for placements. He had decided to prepare for GATE instead and managed to get AIR 197 in his final year.
Next, they asked him some technical questions related to the EDC portion. He was even asked to draw a logarithmic plot of current v/s voltage for a practical diode.
Next, he was asked questions from the analog portion, which he hadn’t prepared well. To his relief, they asked him only basic questions like he was asked to identify a configuration. He wasn’t able to answer a few questions related to analog and concluded that it’s very necessary to revise your concepts even after GATE.

- Previously, the department of VLSI allowed only 50% of students to go for internships. This rule was set up from the batch of 2018. Previously, 50% of the whole department was allowed for internships.
- Though the placement count is quite less, a good internship in companies like NVIDIA and Intel would result in a good pre-placement full-time offer.
- For the 2021 batch, the institute allowed all students for internships, because of problems with guiding students virtually in COVID circumstances. Even if this rule is evoked in the future, the minimum 50% internship rule will be available.
Therefore, the placement in VLSI at NIT Calicut is average, but with some good internship and full-time conversion offers.
How is the M Tech AI course at IISC Bangalore in terms of placements and future prospects? How is it different from Computational and Data Science MTech programme?
IISC Bangalore introduced the M.Tech AI program in 2019. It is offered by the EECS division.
For the curriculum, the basics of optimization, linear algebra, probability, data structure, and algorithms are covered during the first semester.
M.Tech in AI is different from M.Tech in CDS in terms of core courses. The electives offered in both programs are almost the same.
The IISc Bangalore tag will be very useful in case you go for your Ph.D. in India or abroad. But for that, you need to maintain a good GPA.

The CDS, CSE, and AI branches receive similar placement and internship opportunities. The students of all these branches receive offers in data science, machine learning, and software engineering.

- The faculty of the Electrical Department of IIT Jodhpur is highly learned and experienced in their respective fields
- The electrical department has well-equipped laboratories and modern equipment and systems required for research work.
- The placement scenario is decent and the highest CTC ranges from 12-15 LPA. A few recruiters who visited in the past to recruit students were INTEL, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, KEC International Ltd., and Vehicles Ltd. Most of the packages offered by these companies were below 10 LPA.
- IIT Jodhpur has recently shifted to a new campus so its infrastructure and campus facilities have improved.
Ultimately, it’s you who can drive whether joining IIT Jodhpur is worth it or not.
How is IIITM Gwalior for an M.Tech in information security?
It goes without saying, the idea of pursuing a degree in M.Tech in Information Security, that too, from an institute like IIITM Gwalior is a big deal. As it is very decent and you will not regret this decision. All the domains that concern the securityaspect would be covered under their curriculum. Some of my friends are from IIITM Gwalior, and here are some facts about the institution.
- The faculty and the professors are well experienced and supportive.
- As an M.Tech student, you would be prohibited from pick-up an internship in your second year due to an academic thesis that would be carried throughout a year.
- The placement package will depend on your coding skills. The better your skills, the best the package you'll receive.
- In order to implement all knowledge you have acquired theoretically, you must practice it thoroughly in the computer labs. They will be open 24×7.
- You could use this accessibility to your advantage if your coding skills are not that great by putting most of your efforts and time into it.
- Practice programming and sharpen your problem-solving skills so that you get a good package and get into an MNC as well.
Once you reach there the kind of environment you would be exposed to would be wholesome. As far as academics are concerned there will be no complaints about it.
From placement point of view, which NIT is better among NIT Trichy, NIT warangal and NIT Karnataka Surathkal in M.Tech Course of Communication specialization?
This answer might be a little irrelevant, but I feel it will answer your queries. As some of my friends studied Advanced Communication Systems (ACS) at NIT Warangal, I can say that seeing your interest in Communication you must be from an ECE background. There are two more streams in NIT Warangal for ECE graduates, VLSI and Electronics Instrumentation (EI). VLSI should be your first choice. If you don’t get VLSI, opt for EI.
Let me share the reasons as to why I think so.
- EI is not core for ECE graduates.
- But if you want to get jobs in core ECE, VLSI or EI are better choices than ACS.
- However, ACS placements are improving.
- All the packages are above INR 15 LPA.
- Students are getting internships in Intel, Dell, Analog Devices, Synaptics, Xilinx, Synopsys, etc.
- Students get placed in C-Dot, Intel, Sandisk, Qualcomm, Xilinx, nVidia, Synopsys, etc.
- The subject ACS has no scope in the market.
- So, companies that come will want you to know VHDL and Verilog.
- These subjects are taught in both VLSI and EI, not in ACS.
So, even after getting poor grades, you have to study other subjects for placements, if you are in ACS. To conclude, if you want to join NIT Warangal, go with VLSI or EI.
Is IIT Mandi a good place to pursue an M.Tech?
IIT Mandi M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with an Energy System specialization has a good reputation. Only Mechanical or Production undergraduates are allowed to apply for this course. The curriculum has fundamental Mechanical engineering courses like Energy sources, Design & Energy systems, Mechanics of Energy systems, Modelling & Simulation, CFD, etc.
The faculties are great. If you are passionate about research, you will get support from them. IIT Mandi gives an option to pursue M.Tech thesis in TU 9 German Universities of Technology. You will need a pointer over 8.5-9 to get the opportunity. Students from this branch get admission in IISc, IIT B, IIT KGP, etc. for Ph.D.
