What would be the better option between BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus) Dual degree or IIIT Delhi ECE?

A
Admin Posted On : May 28th, 2024

When it comes to ECE, I would always suggest you to choose BITS Pilani. It is the top private college in India for pursuing engineering. It is even better than some of the new IITS, NITS and IIITs. Though IIIT Delhi is also a good choice for pursuing ECE, according to me, BITS Pilani will always be a superior choice.

The course curriculum at BITS Pilani has been designed to impart both theoretical and practical knowledge to the students. The ECE department of BITS Pilani is one of the oldest and most reputed. The faculty is well experienced and helpful. They will guide you through your journey of four years and encourage you to pursue your passions. You will get to design new projects on your own which will give you confidence when you join the workforce. Top companies recruit students from our college and if you are hardworking, you’ll become one of them. All the best!

Choose what interests you. If you are interested in Chemical Engineering, BITS Pilani is a great option. It offers decent academics and exposure. Core Chemical companies and oil companies recruit from the institute. Schlumberger, ONGC, Reliance, etc. are among the major recruiters for the branch. BITS Pilani placement highlights show the average CTC to be around INR 12 LPA for Chemical Engineering.

But if you are interested in Mechanical Engineering, you should choose PEC Chandigarh.

Which should I choose: Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani Goa Campus, or Electrical and Electronics in NIT Surathkal?

A
Admin Posted On : September 16th, 2023

Since both the colleges are considered highly reputable and among the best in the country, you should focus on the branch. The choice of the branch directly depends on your inclinations and future goals.

To make it easier for you I have explained each branch in short:

Electrical and Instrumentation:

  • Instrumentation engineering is the engineering specialization that focuses primarily on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in the design and configuration of automated systems in electrical, pneumatic domains, etc.
  • These engineers usually work at chemical or manufacturing plants and their job role involves improving productivity, reliability, safety, optimization, and stability.
  • They are responsible for designing devices that measure physical quantities such as pressure, flow, and temperature. You will require a lot of knowledge in physics much more than electromagnetic theory.

Electrical and Electronics:

  • In this students learn to design electronic circuits, and computer systems and also develop control systems. Electronics play a key role in the implementation and control of electrical machines.
  • The course mainly focuses on designing and testing ICs, inductors, capacitors and resistors and includes fundamentals and principles of physics, mathematics, computer science, and project management.
  • The sub-disciplines of this branch are power, control, electronics, microelectronics and Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Instrumentation and Computers.

Although the choice depends on your own interests, EE has a better scope than EIE.

Which is better for CS, NIT (Warangal, Trichy) or BITS Pilani?

Namrata Das Posted On : August 19th, 2023

NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and BITS Pilani are all good colleges for CSE. Here is a comparison among them based on various parameters-

  1. Brand Value - RECs were rechristened as NITs and taken under the Centre’s control in 2003. On the other hand, BITS Pilani is a much older brand. However, the top NITs are as much favored by recruiters as BITS Pilani. One can say that in terms of brand value, the top 3-4 NITs are almost at par with BITS Pilani.
  2. Placements - During 2023, The CSE branch at NIT Warangal saw the highest package of INR 88 LPA and the average package of INR 30.8 LPA.

At BITS Pilani, Tech students were offered a package between INR 11 - 38 LPA. At NIT Trichy, the highest package overall stood at INR 40 LPA for the year 2022. From these figures, one can declare that at present NIT Warangal has the best placements for CSE among the three (as per the official figures).

  1. Fee- At BITS Pilani, you will be spending around three times more than the NITs for the same degree. Thus, with regard to course fees, NITs are much more affordable than BITS Pilani.
  2. Crowd - To some extent, BITS Pilani is the winner because the admissions at BITS Pilani are purely merit-based. Although, one has to consider that JEE is much more difficult than BITSAT, and in fact, many students at top NITs clear JEE advanced.

Overall, all three colleges are quite good for your CSE. In the end, it is you who has to put in the required effort.

PP

Both NIT Trichy and BITs Pilani are prestigious institutes offering high-quality engineering education. Moreover, CSE and ME are equally good with different opportunities and prospects. So the choice between BITS Pilani CSE and NIT Trichy Mechanical depends on what your preferences and career prospects are.

BITS Pilani CSE is a great option if

  • You want to join a top private organization like Google, Facebook, Quora, Amazon, Microsoft, etc
  • Your primary goal is getting high packages even at the cost of extreme work conditions and workload
  • If you have a strong passion for coding
  • If you have no financial constraints and can afford the high BITS Pilani fees.

However, NIT Trichy Mechanical is a good option if

  • You are looking for a stable Government job through UPSC Engineering Services Examination
  • You want to go for PSUs such as IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, etc through GATE
  • If you are a research enthusiast and want to work in a research-oriented government job as a Scientist or Engineer in organizations like RDO, ISRO, BARC, etc
  • If money is your secondary preference and you primarily focus on attaining a better work-life balance.
  • If you have financial issues and BITS Pilani fees are out of your budget.

Ultimately, it’s you who can decide the right college and stream for yourself. Just remember that these are just stepping stones to success and it’s you who has to work hard to become successful.

BITS Pilani and IIT BHU are considered among the best engineering colleges in the country. You can choose either of these two based on your choice of branch. Here is a brief comparison of both institutes.

  • In terms of college infrastructure, BITS Pilani is better than IIT BHU. The infrastructure of BHU is poor compared to other old IITs too.
  • IIT BHU and BITS Pilani both have equally good research facilities and faculty bases.
  • The student crowd at both campuses is also quite good.
  • Both BITS Pilani and IIT BHU will offer enough opportunities and exposure to groom yourself.
  • For the Mechanical and Electronics branch, the average CTC at IIT BHU is INR 12 LPA and INR 10 LPA respectively. According to recent statistics, the average CTC for BITS Pilani Mechanical is INR 13 LPA. While for Electronics, the average CTC is INR 10 LPA.
  • BITS Pilani charges higher fees compared to IIT BHU.
  • In terms of brand value, IIT BHU>BITS Pilani.

Both institutes have their advantages. You should talk to the current students regarding your branch, before choosing one of these two institutes.

How are international students treated at BITS pilani?

RS
Rihan Singh Posted On : July 17th, 2021
B.Tech CSE at BITS Hyderabad (2020)

Only a few years back, in about 2016, BITS Hyderabad involved its very first international students batch. The international students are not that different than the rest of the batch. Half of them have spent a reasonable amount of time in India before coming to the institute.

Everyone in the institute is equally treated. There is no discrimination inside or outside the student circle. You can befriend anyone in the institute. However, there are various students who choose to recuse themselves from others. But it’s up to you how you want to spend your time at the institute.

Having said that, there has clearly not been any kind of discrimination in the institute. Once you get admission, it does not matter whether you have entered via BITSAT or SAT. Hope this helps answer your query.

Which is better, BITS Pilani or CBIT?

PK
Prakhar Kumar Posted On : July 29th, 2021
M.Tech Computer Science & Data Analytics, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS Pilani is definitely the better college as compared to CBIT. I do not have much idea about CBIT. BITS has a league of its own.

Here are some key points about BITS:

  • It has a really good academic culture and is one of the best academic institutions after IITs for engineering degrees.
  • The college is much better than many Indian engineering colleges when it comes to infrastructure, placements, brand as well as campus life.
  • BITS Pilani focuses on open learning as well as dual specialization.
  • You will experience quality teaching and have a really good global alumni base.

You can compare other IITs like IITB, IITM, IITK for better or for the worse. But, keep in mind that this does not mean that other top governments or private colleges are not equally good or even comparable to BITS. It all boils down to the pedigree, which is the only thing that matters.

A lot of colleges across the country are making huge strides in efforts to tackle leading colleges within the next 8 to 10 years. It all depends upon how strategically the college invests and commits to doing better. From what little knowledge we have about CBIT, it really does not compare much in this aspect.

Why is BITS Pilani compared to IIT Guwahati if it seems to have a better faculty and an IIT tag?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 5th, 2023

Here are a few points pertaining to the faculty of BITS Pilani.

  • The faculty pool is a mix of both good and bad professors but the quality of faculty is no less than IIT.
  • The BITS tag is more exclusive because there are only 3 campuses whereas IIT has 23 campuses.
  • Also, Bitsat is more competitive than JEE Advanced, so the number of aspirants per seat is pretty high, thus increasing peer quality,
  • I have seen many examples of people who scored well in JEE Advanced but failed to get good marks in BITSAT.

Lastly, comparing engineering colleges is highly illogical as it is all a matter of your competence and not the institute you belong to.

Should I join IIT Guwahati CS or BITS Pilani CS considering BITS got the Institute of Eminence tag?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 4th, 2023

Branch-wise, you won’t find many differences as the curriculum and courses covered are almost similar. However, the overall ambiance and exposure offered us better at BITS Pilani. Here are a few points to support my stance

  • BITS Pilani has 2 internships of its own. This is an extremely crucial point as the government has made 3 internships compulsory for engineering students in order to secure a good job.
  • Another plus point of BITS is its extremely flexible curriculum with a plethora of electives to choose from. Additionally, there are open electives from other branches that lets you explore beyond your branch and broaden your horizons.
  • A few tech giants prefer visiting only IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and BITS Pilani.
  • BITS Pilani has an excellent peer group with some students who have cleared prestigious competitions like GSOC, and ACM ICPC. You will find yourself surrounded by top rankers around 1000 AIR in JEE Advance.
  • The alumni pool is extensive and constantly supports the institute.
  • BITS Pilani has got the tag of Institute of Eminence tag making it eligible to collaborate more with foreign universities and carry on student and faculty exchange programs freely.

Ultimately, there is no right choice, and choosing one over the others is completely a personal choice. Either way, you will lose and gain something!
