Apart from a good CAT score, if I have scored 94% in 10th, 93% in 12th and 82% in B.E, what are my chances for an IIM Bangalore call?

IG
Indrita Ghose Posted On : July 27th, 2021
IIM C (2018)

The chances of an interview call from IIM Bangalore depends on all factors cumulatively, 10th, 12, and graduation score, CAT percentile, profile, etc. Here are some of the things that you should know.

  • Since you scored 94% in 10th, 93% in 12th, and 82% in Engineering, your profile is quite good. However, that does not necessarily mean that you will get a call back from IIM Bangalore.
  • Work experience also plays a key role in getting a callback. For IIM Bangalore, it is somewhat difficult to expect a call without having work experience of at least 2 years or more.

Also, your CAT score should be at least more than the 99.6 percentile. Along with that, try to score better in sections like DILR, VARC, and QA.

How would you compare MBA offers in Europe vs those in India? Which will be a better option in terms of career progression? Consider INSEAD vs IIM-Bangalore / EDHEC vs SPJIMR etc.

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : June 26th, 2023

When comparing MBA offers in Europe and India, you should consider the business school’s repute, international exposure, professional advancement, cost, and location. INSEAD is a top-10 business school with unrivaled international exposure. It is far more esteemed than the IIMs and should be the first MBA choice if cost and living expenses are not an issue.

However, it is generally advisable to study for an MBA in the place where one wants to work or settle. If someone wants to work or settle in Europe, then doing an MBA from a top European business school is recommended. On the other hand, if someone is interested in working in India and the cost is an issue, then IIM Bangalore (IIM-B) is a great option. IIM-B offers easy loans and scholarships and is recognized by almost all top recruiters in India. Therefore, IIM-B is a good choice for Indian students who want to pursue an MBA.

SPJIMR is also a good option, but if someone wants to start a business in India and their primary client base is local, then IIM-B is a much better option than INSEAD.

Which is the best college in Bangalore for an MBA/PGDM, TAPMI, SIBM-B, or IIM B?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 8th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

All three institutes you mentioned - TAPMI, SIBM-B, and IIM B are highly reputed for their MBA/PGDM programs in Bangalore. TAPMI and IIM-B are legacy institutions as they were established in 1980 and 1973 respectively while SIBM-B was established in 2008.

Seems like you are looking for Bangalore colleges only, so I assume you have some constraints regarding shifting to any other city than Bangalore. But if not then you can try and go for some other B-schools in the country. It depends on if you have got calls from all three, in that case go for IIM-B, as it is among the top two or three B-schools in India.

What are the placement records of IIM Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bangalore?

SS
Shivam Shrivastava Posted On : May 8th, 2023
MBA from IIM K (2019)

All three are great names. Different cultures exist in each location. Even though the recruiters are mostly the same, your ability to get on shortlists relies a lot on how you compare to other students in your class. It's more important to look at how good your profile is compared to other people's than to pay attention to the agents who come to your college.

IIM Ahmedabad has a much wider range of academic backgrounds, IIMB has a much higher average number of years of work experience, and IIMC will have more people with very high CAT scores but slightly lower academic histories. For example, IIMC is better for placements if you don't have great grades and didn't go to one of the best undergraduate schools. If you want to work in finance but don't have much experience in the field, IIMA might not be the best option for you.
