What is the difference in quality between IIT Bombay, NIT Trichy, and BITS Pilani?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : July 20th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

I have friends in all the 3 institutes so I happen to be the right person to answer your question

A friend in NIT Trichy told me that the lectures are boring and the professors are incapable of delivering the concepts in a skillful manner. Most of them are hardly interested in teaching and offer no individual assistance. Only a few exceptional professors help you here.

Meanwhile, my friends at BITS Pilani and IIT Bombay were all praised for their respective institutes.

  • These institutes offer better job opportunities and exposure in the form of scholarships and internships.
  • The research culture at these institutes is yet another reason to prefer them over NIT Trichy.
  • The crowd quality of these institutes cannot be compared to the crowd at NIT Trichy. IIT Bombay is the best IIT and attracts the highest JEE rankers while BITS Pilani with its no-reservation policy only accepts the cream crowd.
  • These institutes provide a path for their students to inculcate and harness their talents. NIT Trichy fails to realize the potential of its students and only focuses on theoretical learning.

So yes there is a huge difference in the quality of education and opportunities offered by the aforementioned institutes. However, in the long run, it’s your skills and talents that matter.

Which institute is better for CSE, BITS Pilani, IIT Guwahati or IIT BHU?

NT
Nived Tripathi Posted On : March 20th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG)

When it comes to Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programs, IIIT Hyderabad is undoubtedly one of the best options available. The study environment and coding culture at IIIT Hyderabad are unmatched, making it a great choice for students interested in CSE.

However, if you are looking for a more well-rounded college experience that includes a relaxed and enjoyable campus life, an older IIT may be a better choice for you. While IIIT Hyderabad excels in academics, it may not provide the same level of student life experience as an IIT.

When deciding between colleges, it is important to consider all aspects of the institution, not just academics. For example, BITS Pilani is an excellent college in all aspects, but if you have the option of getting into an older IIT such as IIT Guwahati, it may be a better choice for you.

Similarly, when choosing between BHU and IIT Guwahati, it is advisable to choose IIT Guwahati. While BHU has recently been given the IIT tag, IIT Guwahati is now being compared to older IITs and is even beating some of them in various rankings.

Finally, if you do not get admission into CSE with a rank of 803, Mathematics and Computing (MnC) is always an option. In fact, MnC is a safer option with better placement opportunities at IIT Guwahati. So, you can always consider MnC if you don't get CSE.

What should be my preference for the following colleges if I have no specific branch in mind: new IITs, old IITs, BITS Pilani, BITS Goa, BITS Hyderabad, BIT Mesra, BIT Sindri, local NIT, VIT, Shibpur,

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 5th, 2023

It is difficult to give an appropriate solution if you are not opting for a specific branch. All the colleges you have mentioned are well-reputed institutes in India that offer quality education and placement support to their students. The comparison can only be made based on the branches. Some institutes, like IITs, are good at CSE, while others have efficient departments in mechanical or Electrical Engineering. The ranking and placement vary every year.

If you get a chance to pick BITS Goa in mechanical engineering and BITS Pilani in Civil Engineering, then opt for Mechanical engineering, which opens up more opportunities and placement support than civil engineering.

What is the reputation of BITS Pilani in common public?

DS
Dhe Sengupta Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani - Pilani Campus

BITS Pilani is a more than 50-year-old institute. Yet it is not well known among the common public as that of the IITs. The various reasons for the same are as follows.

  • Advertisement - Though IITs also do not advertise many top private universities do spend a good amount on advertising which is not the case with BITS Pilani.
  • Location - Pilani is a very small town, in fact, smaller than an average Indian town.
  • Campus - It has only 4 campuses; Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai.
  • Press Fascination - Our TV/print media (which most of the average Indian consumes more) always idolizes IITs and IIMs.
  • General Perception - Government higher educational institutes have a higher trust in India among the general population.

But that does not make it bad. In fact, it is often considered at par with the. Here are some of the factors that make BITS such a great institute.

  • No reservation -Though controversial, but without a reservation system BITS Pilani only takes students through merit. So, the student crowd at the institute is great.
  • Academic Freedom - The institute has no attendance policy. You can create your own timetable system and also have an option to take dual degrees.
  • It does not have a management quota unlike many private institutes and the university has international recognition.

So yes it may not be very well known as that of the IITs/IIMs among the common people but it has its own niche and the people who are well aware of the Indian higher education sector, certainly know about BITS.

Which should I choose, the IIT Guwahati M and C or BITS Pilani CSE?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

BITS Pilani has the upper hand in almost every aspect. Being older than IIT Guwahati, it enjoys a better reputation both inside and outside India. Moreover, BITS Pilani CS placements are better than IIT Guwahati MnC placements.

Curriculum: IIT Guwahati MnC curriculum is poorly designed. It’s a mixture of Maths, Computer Science, and Finance making you the Jack of all trades but master of none. The syllabus of IIT Guwahati is not updated while BITS follows the updated syllabus of the world-famous university, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Electives: BITS Pilani offers a wide range of electives to choose from. You can even take up many electives in a specific field and get a minor degree in the same. IIT Guwahati on the other hand has minor electives only in the final year with only 2 open electives. Moreover, MnC students are not allowed to take minor courses in computer science due to some common courses.

Hostel: The BITS Pilani CSE students get excellent accommodation facilities at Gandhi Bhawan. Thus hostel provides double occupancy ik the first year and single occupancy in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years. The washrooms are similar to washrooms in hotels and the overall facilities are top-notch.

It’s important to note that my answer was specifically talking about the Pilani campus as my knowledge is limited to the same. So, I will suggest you to go for BITS Pilani over IIT Guwahati any day.

No, there is no integrated maths and statistics course at BITS Pilani. The primary focus of its mathematics program is on pure subject aspects and its application. Despite not having an integrated course, the mathematics program at BITS Pilani provides a solid foundation for students interested in further studies or disciplines like statistics.

How is programming taught in BITS Pilani?

KG
Khushi Gupta Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied at Jadavpur University (2019)

One of my friends studied at BITS and according to him, the programming courses are generally very vast and need more time to be spent upon.

  • At BITS, you will be provided with video lectures for it on an online portal.
  • It provides you weekly tutorial classes and your Labs would be conducted to clear your doubts and evaluations are taken in Labs to test your knowledge.
  • If you follow the schedule properly here, you can learn and clear your fundamentals quite well.
  • In your 1st year, there will be common courses like computer programming. These will include Data Structure, UNIX, C Programming, etc.
  • In your 2nd year, you will be introduced to Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). This includes Java, Design patterns, etc.
  • In your final year, you will get to learn about Shell Structure, Python, etc.

The faculty members teaching Computer Programming are also well experienced in their respective fields. They are supportive and cooperative. They have a huge role to play as they will be responsible for the development of the student and his knowledge about computer programming. Thus BITS Pilani has a very encouraging programming culture.
