NIT Kurukshetra is certainly a better choice than Thapar University. IIIT A is not an IIT nor a parody of IIT it is a government college and is better than many NIT's even many new IIT's choose according to their preferences and go for it.
One of my friends graduated from Thapar University and was able to provide information regarding examinations. Here is the breakdown of the first semester in which 6 subjects amount to 22 credits.
So, that totals up to 39. To get an idea of 2 Semesters, double it and add nearly 10% due to an increase in credits. There are nearly 86 exams including viva/ practicals and sessionals.
Harcourt Butler Technical University and Thapar University both are reputed. The choice depends on your preferred branch. The following points will help you to make your choice.
In terms of placements, both institutes are almost equal. The details are below.
Criteria | HBTU | Thapar |
Average CTC | INR 7.18 LPA | INR 8 LPA |
Highest CTC | INR 60 LPA | INR 43 LPA |
Placement Percentage | 75.12% | 90% |
Tuition Fee | INR 5.17 Lakhs | INR 15.06 Lakhs |
Overall, as mentioned above, both the institutes are similar. There is a wide range of branches in both the institutes to study. After analyzing all the factors, you can choose the best-suited course for yourself. If you do not have any inclination towards a particular branch, it is better to opt for HBTU Kanpur as the fee is low and the return on investment is high.
Thapar University and LPU are both prestigious institutions, but their offerings vary significantly.
Thapar University is generally considered superior due to its higher placement rates and academic environment.
Having known some people studying in both these institutions, I can say that if you plan to get a job offer, go for CS at Thapar University. If not and are interested in doing research opt for Engineering Physics at DTU.

One of my friends from school is a student of NITIE and according to him, having work experience with more than 20-26 months just acts as magic numbers. It will be a great asset during the time of admissions. In NITIE, the average work experience of the IM batch usually ranges from 20 to 26 months and sometimes even higher. Moreover, there will also be high chances that you can sit for the LRP placements as well. Only consulting companies would be expected during the LRP process.
Here is a brief highlight of recent placements at NITIE.
Average CTC | 20 LPA |
Highest CTC | 43 LPA |
Top 10% average CTC | 37 LPA |
Top 20% average CTC | 32 LPA |

Hope this answers your question.
Plenty of coders on top competitive coding platforms are students of NIT Jalandhar. This points towards a good coding culture at NITJ. Moreover, the fee at NITs is much less than PEC or Thapar University.
Though the placement at PEC is good overall, it receives less offers from the core ECE companies. Thapar has its own list of top companies that prioritize it over other colleges. But I do not know much about their CSE department.
Thus, I would recommend NIT Jalandhar CSE over the other two options. But if you want to choose between PEC ECE and Thapar CSE, I would recommend you make the selection based on your subject interest.
Check the following points to understand a basic difference between both hostels:
Therefore, both Hostel C and J of Thapar University are good. Try to live in every hostel for different years of your student life. As each of them will give you different experiences each year.
