I was getting metallurgy in IIT Bhubaneswar and IT in IIIT Allahabad but I chose the latter. Was it a mistake ?
You didn’t make a mistake as long as you are pursuing the branch that you are interested in. IIIT Allahabad is surely a good choice. The tag of IIT offers certain advantages but Metallurgy as a branch has less scope as far as placements are concerned. According to 2019 placement statistics, there was a 90% placement from Metallurgy at IIT Bhubaneswar.
Information technology offers more job roles and scope. According to last year’s placement statistics of IIIT Allahabad, there were a total of 95% placements from this institute with an average package of Rs.15.5 lakhs. The highest package is Rs.39 lakhs. More than 120 recruiters came for campus placement from different sectors ranging from software to healthcare.
Overall, if information technology is the path that you wanted to pursue as a career, then definitely you made the right choice.
Which is good in terms of placement, faculty, and campus, MNNIT IT or IIIT Allahabad IT?
Having knowing people from both MNNIT and IIIT Allahabad, I can say that both are good institutes in terms of placement, faculty, and campus. The name tag is also big and the coding culture in both the institutes is also good. Choosing the college is entirely your decision.
- If you want to make your career in the IT field then choose IIIT Allahabad. But if you are not sure whether you want to go into IT or some other field then choose MNNIT.
- The placement of both MNNIT and IIIT is good.
- The faculty of both are equally good.
- The curriculum of IIIT Allahabad focused on IT from the first year itself and students of IIIT Allahabad are focused on making their career in the IT field.
- In MNNIT subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Drawing will be taught.
- Campus wise IIIT Allahabad campus is better than MNNIT. IIIT Allahabad has better facilities and infrastructure. Whereas, MNNIT infrastructure is not that good.

Therefore, if you are looking for a career in IT then choose IIIT Allahabad and if you are not sure then go for MNNIT. Both the colleges are equally good but IIIT Allahabad has more pros than MNNIT. So, if you are thinking of joining any of these institutes then go ahead.
How are internet facilities at IIIT Allahabad?
Internet facilities at IIIT Allahabad are really good. Having studied here myself I can say it is much better than what other colleges provide.
- The speed goes up to 50 Mbps.
- Each hostel room has its own LAN ports. This higher speed helps to install many software and OS, required for educational purposes.
- Generally, the speed is 20 Mbps but during vacations, speed goes up to 50 Mbps.
- Like other institutions, the internet here is provided through proxy servers. You have to log in using your LDAP credentials given to you after admission.
You can use apps like WhatsApp easily but for mobile games like PUBG or COD you might not be able to use the college’s internet facilities. Overall the internet facilities are really good at IIIT Allahabad.
Is IIIT Allahabad better than the second gen IITs in terms of placements and infrastructure?
IIIT Allahabad is a well-established institution for engineering education in India, known for its excellent academic programs and research facilities. What should I choose between computer in NIT Allahabad and IT at IIIT Allahabad?
If you are a coding enthusiast, you should prefer IT at IIIT Allahabad. It has an excellent IT syllabus. You will have a fair knowledge about OOP, DSA at the end of the first year. Students of IIIT Allahabad actively participate in competitive coding from the first year. The institute also has a good placement record. Among all the options you have mentioned, the one which you should actually consider is ECE in IIIT Allahabad for a duration of 5 years.

If you have a knack for coding and it holds your concern, the environment that is accurate for a coding culture can be provided by IIIT Allahabad.
Therefore, if coding and IT are your forte, a 5-year IT course at IIIT Allahabad is the one for you. The faculty there are experienced and carry specializations that guide you through your way.
Look at the bigger picture which holds your future and then go for an aim. Choose such a specialization that ensures security to your future as well.
But then, if you eventually want to settle on ECE, MNNIT is the right place.
What should I prefer, IT in IIIT Allahabad or ECE in NIT Hamirpur?
It is unfair to compare IIIT Allahabad with NIT Hamirpur. If you take a look at the closing cutoff for IIIT Allahabad and NIT Hamirpur, the difference will be clear.
If you have the option to choose IIIT Allahabad, go for it without giving it a second thought. Now if you clear the cutoff for IT at IIIT A, you will be eligible for ECE as well.
