Can a general category student convert IIM Indore or Shillong at 92 percentile? (With a reasonably okay WAT-PI) (with good academics but as a fresher)

SP
Sushil Panda Posted On : May 10th, 2023

While the selection process for admission to IIM Indore and IIM Shillong varies from year to year and depends on various factors such as the number of applicants, the quality of the applicant pool, and the cut-offs set by the institutes.

It is generally considered challenging to secure admission to these institutes with a 92 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) as a general category student. But if you are from the EWS category then it is not that difficult. Also, the CAT percentile is just one of the criteria that are considered for admission to IIMs, institutes also take into account several other factors such as academic performance, work experience (if any), and performance in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

If you have a strong academic record, try and perform well in the WAT-PI, and if you are able to demonstrate your potential for academic excellence and leadership, then you have a good chance of securing admission to IIM Indore or IIM Shillong.

How hard is it to get a 4 0 GPA aggregate at IPM IIM Indore?

DT
Darryl Thomas Posted On : June 3rd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

IIM Indore follows quality indices and has a 4.33-pointer grading system. Crossing 4 CGPA would mean you’re among the top 1% of your class which is a pretty huge deal. Now, is it impossible to score 4 or above grades? The simple answer is no which makes sense cause nothing is impossible right?

But you need to realize that it’s a relative grading system so in order to top the class you need to play your cards right. Analyze the professors and don’t compromise on any component be it class participation, quizzes or presentations. Get an A+ atleast in 80% of your subjects and you’re good to go.

Can one get a seat in IIM Indore without having maths in class 12th?

RS
Rakesh Sharma Posted On : August 28th, 2021
IPM from IIM Indore (2021)

My elder brother completed his education at IIM Indore. So I think I can answer your question.

IIM Indore provides an IPM (Integrated Program in Management) course after you complete your high school education. It's a five-year program that has proven to be really beneficial. In those five years, you'll have acquired comprehensive management skills. Math is required in this course. So, students coming from a Math background do have an advantage. But there are students with non-mathematical backgrounds too. So, you can definitely have a seat at IIM Indore, even if you didn’t have maths in 12th.

But don't be discouraged, the MBA and PGDM programs do not require math in class 12; all you need to do is pass the CAT exam. You'll need to study hard for that, as it's a competitive and difficult exam. So plan beforehand and give it your all. IIM Indore is an amazing institute, and it is well worth your time to study there.

How much salary do the last 50 MBA students get at final placements at B Schools like IIM Indore, IIFT Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SIBM Pune, etc.?

Colleges invite companies for placements on the basis of the preference list created by the students themselves. This means that the most preferred companies visit in the initial days while the least preferred companies visit towards the end. This eventually means that the last of the batch gets placed by mediocre companies.

Now here is a fact, sometimes the companies visiting at the end in order to get higher preference and attract maximum students, offer high packages that are at par with the preferred companies.

My uncle was a placement coordinator at IIFT a few years ago and gave me an insight into the placement scenario of such B Schools. Numerically speaking if the median salary of a particular B School is X, then the packages offered to the last 59 students would be around 0.6X-0.7X.

College Name

Median Salary

Salary expected by last 50 candidates

IIM Indore

INR 24.09 LPA

INR 16.8 LPA

IIFT Delhi

INR 25.6 LPA

INR 17.9 LPA

MDI Gurgaon

INR 24 LPA

INR 16.8 LPA

SIBM Pune

INR 20.80 LPA

INR 14.5 LPA

The approximate salary offered to the last 50 candidates of the B Schools you mentioned is around 15-17 LPA.

Kindly note that these figures are based solely on guesses and anecdotes from my juniors, and are just meant to give an idea of the salary.

What should I join, IIFT Delhi or IIM Indore?

RK
Rahul Kumar Posted On : January 15th, 2021
Studied at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKVP)

IIFT is one of the best institutes for foreign trade management and it comes under the top 10 B-school of India. While IIM Indore is a top B school and comes under the old IIMs category.

The table shows a brief overview of the institutions.

Particulars

IIFT Delhi

IIM Indore

Median Salary

Rs. 18.20 Lakh

Rs. 22.92 Lakh

Entrance Criteria

IIFT

CAT/GMAT

Fees

Rs. 7.6 Lakh

Rs. 7.76 Lakh

Comparison:

  • Both IIFT and IIM Indore offer similar average CTC, i.e. 17-18 LPA.
  • IIM Indore has a huge batch size. This results in tough competition both during summer internships and placements.
  • The decision also depends on your interest and choice of specializations. IIM will offer you Management studies i.e. Marketing, Finance, HR, etc. Whereas, IIFT is good for fashion design.

These two fields are completely different and equally tough to get into. So, go for the field you are interested in. If you are hardworking and think you can get into IIM, go for it. Both of these institutes are reputed but IIM Indore has a better brand value since it is an old IIM.

One of my friends recently graduated from IIM Indore and according to her, there is an exit option after you complete 3-years of the IPM program. On the successful completion of the course, you will receive your B.A degree from the foundation of Management by IIM Indore, if you wish to leave.

There is also an option of a sabbatical for up to 2 years for select students for IPM.

I have been selected for the PGP program of IIM indore, I have one and half months of time now. what could I do/learn to make my life easier at IIM indore?

IPM from IIM Indore (2020)

First of all congratulations on converting IIM Indore. Now there are two things you can do before formally joining the institute.

  • Option A - You can start searching for the course curriculum, preparing the subjects you will get in the first year, know about the probable faculties, etc. You can seek help from your seniors, interact with them and start learning as you will get a head start from other students of your batch.
  • Option B - You can relax, and enjoy your free time. In the meanwhile, you can make some friends as well among your batch mates or even your seniors.

What I would suggest is option B as after the classes begin, you will hardly get any time to interact with anyone, and life would become hectic. So enjoy the free time you have now.

Is IIM Indore Executive MBA Mumbai campus for working professionals worth the money?

HJ
Himanshi Jain Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (2019)

While the IIM tag is a plus, the cost of the Executive MBA program at IIM Indore's Mumbai campus is too high in my opinion. Instead, you should consider alternative options such as the British MBA Degree from Cardiff Met University or the Internationally accredited European MBA Degree from the Swiss School of Management, both offered by Universal Business School in Mumbai on Sundays.

There are several advantages to these alternative programs.

  • They are globally accredited MBA degrees, which are recognized worldwide.
  • They have top industry faculty, including global CEOs of multi-billion dollar corporations and foreign faculty, which provide a diverse and global perspective.
  • They offer European quality assessment and quality assurance, which is a plus.
  • These programs are endorsed by 60 CEOs, which suggests their value.

These programs can be completed in 1 year to 15 months, making them super fast, super efficient, and super convenient.

What is the difficulty level of the IIM Indore IPM exam?

DT
Darryl Thomas Posted On : June 28th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

IIM Indore IPM exam, like any other competitive exam, can be challenging for some students. This answer is section-wise and gives an idea of the level of difficulty in each section.

The Verbal Ability section is said to be the easiest section of the exam. The section consists mainly of reading comprehension questions and other types of questions such as “odd one out” and “fill in the most suitable word”. If you read habitually, it should make this portion easier. To increase reading skills, others should read newspapers daily.

The Quantitative Ability section is considered to be a bit tough in comparison to the Verbal Ability section. The questions are mainly from Algebra and Coordinate Geometry from the Class 11-12 curriculum. A few questions from Calculus and Statistics are also included. This section can be the make-or-break section for many students as it requires a lot of practice and knowledge of the basic concepts. It is recommended to practice NCERT solutions and move on to slightly harder books to improve one's skills in this section.

In conclusion, while the difficulty level of the IIM Indore IPM exam can be subjective, it is important to prepare well and have a good understanding of the basic concepts to crack the exam.
