Do toppers in the batch get a good package irrespective of their background in FMS, XLRI, IIFT, and IIMs?

SP
Shashank Prabhu Posted On : June 16th, 2021
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (2019)

Let me first clarify this idea that the package does not match the ranking. Secondly, the good package isn't related to "good package" & "business that offers it" in general as well.

  • The two above combined into MBA colleges and require special skills in the field of employment tasks.
  • In addition, you only have some benefit in choosing which business you desire to become a top student at an MBA School.
  • But for companies that are also not on your preferred list, the package may be pricier.
  • Company packages differ and their skills and candidacy requirements also suit.
  • Some companies exclusively employ people who have work experience, some who have specialized working experiences, or special graduates.

Through some roles, whomever you are or are not top, your background matters. And the package is a flexible element in all major institutions, based on the choice of a firm.

What are my chances of getting a call from the tier 1 MBA institutes like IIMs, FMS, XLRI, SPjain, etc., if I have a 3 year drop after my graduation?

ST
Shobhit Taneja Posted On : June 23rd, 2021
PGDM (BM) from Xavier School of Management (2019)

If your academic performance was fine and your score is a bit on the lower side, you can get Tier-1 institutes like IIM, FMS, XLRI after fulfilling some requirements. It would be a bit difficult to compete with the fresh graduates but it is still possible.

A gap of 3 years and no work experience after graduation is a negative point that can be easily pointed out in your CV. You should be honest with your reasons and make sure to avoid unnecessary mistakes, you can walk through it in your interviews and can get enrollment in these top MBA Institutes.

A good suggestion for you would be to deeply do a quick review of what you had learned from your experience with engineering job preparations. You should consider the reasons that have made you shift towards pursuing an MBA course.

If you can back all this up with a decent CAT/XAT percentile score (around 99.5 plus in your case), you can get a call from these institutions.

How can I visit IIM/XLRI/FMS during my MBA Preparation phase to interact with Prof and students?

AS
Arnav Singh Posted On : July 7th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

You can visit IIMs if you have any mutual friends on the campus. Another way is through events where you can join and get an opportunity to interact with the students and professors.

Following are some examples of events held at IIMA and IIMB where you can easily interact with both faculty and students:

Events at IIM Ahmedabad

  • Insight: A campus walk is organized during the last weeks of September. You can interact with the students but professors won’t be available.
  • Gandhi Jayanti week: You get to meet students and professors both.

Events at IIM Bangalore

  • Annual Business Summit: It is usually organized in September.
  • Annual Entrepreneurship Summit: It is typically held in Late July/ Early August.
  • One day at IIMB: It is an annual fundraising event arranged when the students celebrate 'Joy of Giving Week'. This provides an opportunity to experience one day at IIMB.

The other way is by attending prep talk sessions held at XLRI and IIMs before CAT and XAT. You can also visit numerous conventions/seminars in XLRI to get in touch with the faculty members etc directly.

You can interact with the students and professors on social networking sites. It would be best to contact the professors through email. You will find the email IDs on the official website of the institutes.

How is IIM Sambalpur for MBA after 3 years of experience?

HS
Harshit Singh Posted On : January 24th, 2023
MBA IT & Analytics, Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur (2020)

IIM Sambalpur is a new IIM and obviously lacks the credibility enjoyed by older IIMs. But it is not a very bad choice if you are just looking for a degree to add to your resume. Moreover, the IIM tag is bound to be helpful on one or the other day. In case you have limited options then forgoing IIM Sambalpur’s offer is not right. After all, it is an IIM and is still preferred over other B Schools by many corporations. The basic placement statistics below might help you get a deeper insight into the same

Highest CTC: INR 30 LPA

Average CTC: INR 12.64 LPA

Median CTC: INR 11.42 LPA

IIM Sambalpur will definitely not offer opportunities as good as other old IIMs but the IIM tag is tempting enough to grab the offer.

Which one is better for the long term: an MBA from IIM Shillong, IIM Trichy or SJMSoM IIT B?

AP
Amritansh Pandey Posted On : January 16th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2019)

IIT B is particularly known for its specialization in Operations. Although it has a decent specialization in other domains like Marketing and IT as well, it is for Operations that people usually choose it. Some consider IIM Shillong or Trichy a better option for Finance. But I personally think that SJMSom IIT B is overall a better choice.

I cannot choose one between IIM Trichy and Shillong as both are at an equal level at this point. Despite being new, Trichy has managed to be in the league of Shillong. It has been growing at a fast pace and may even surpass IIM Shillong in the near future.

So if I am to rank the above options it has to be

SJMSom>IIM Shillong=IIM Trichy

When is an MBA Worth It?

PS
Pratiti Sen Posted On : October 30th, 2020
PGDM from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2020)

MBA is the most in demand postgraduate course in India. It is a 2 year full time program providing specializations in Finance, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Human Resources, etc. MBA provides students with the knowledge of managerial and leadership skills. It tests the student’s problem solving skills. Admission is based on the entrance examinations like CAT, CMAT, SNAP, XAT, MAT and NMAT.

Yes, pursuing an MBA degree is definitely worth it. Students can secure jobs in domains like Marketing, HR, Banking, Retail Management and others non-core sectors as well after an MBA.

It is worth more when it comes with benefits like -

  • Having the best Return On Investment (ROI) being one of the costliest courses.
  • The efficiency of an investment is determined by the ROI measurement and comparison.
  • The MBA course fee being higher leads to higher salary packages offered to MBA graduates.
  • They get a raise or hike in 10 years considering the long term salary projections.
  • Students choosing Executive MBA are able to work actively while pursuing the degree. The salary they earn will be added while calculating ROI.
  • The highest salary package an MBA graduate is offered can rise from 48 LPA to 70 LPA in India.
  • The top recruiting companies that hire MBA graduates include Deloitte, Accenture, Infosys, Capgemini, Citibank, ITC, Nestle, Saint Gobain, JP Morgan, Wipro, Microsoft, Phillips, Reliance, L&T, McKinsey & Company, Avendus, Asian Paints, etc.

Top MBA Institutions

IIMs are no doubtedly the best to pursue MBA and one can get a job among top companies. However, IIMs have a high fee structure as compared to other B-Schools. Some of the top IIMs are: IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow and many more.

Other AICTE approved B-Schools in India are XLRI Jamshedpur, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, IMI Delhi, among others. These institutes have lower fee structure than IIMs but their average placement package is higher than many IIMs.

Studying MBA is an investment because students graduating with an MBA degree receive job offers from top companies who provide a generous salary package. MBA degree provides job security and it provides a lot of career opportunities than a normal Masters graduate degree. This is why an MBA degree is definitely worth pursuing.

Is an MBA-Tech course from NMIMS University as good as an MBA from NMIMS?

RP
Rakshit Pandey Posted On : July 8th, 2021
Studied at Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering, NMIMS

The answer is no.

The curriculum is different which is why the expertise of the faculties is also different. If you want to pursue Management as a postgraduate degree, you should first finish your undergraduate studies. Then examine your options and apply for entrance exams in NMIMS.

MBA Tech is superior to MBA General from NMIMS. You will get value additions in MBA Tech such as data-paralytics, which gives you a tech-commercial advantage and, ultimately, job preference. A techno-commercial person is paid more than a general MBA.

Furthermore, completing your MBA through SBM will provide you with a better scope and a more propelling start.

How do you rate getting an MBA from a new IIM like IIM Ranchi or IIM Trichy? Should one wait a year and try getting into better B schools instead?

AA
Anamica Agarwal Posted On : January 20th, 2023
Ph.D from Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Graduated 2017)

IIM Ranchi's MBA placement drive for 2022 saw 77 companies visit the campus for recruitment. The highest and average packages offered during this placement drive were INR 42 LPA and INR 16.62 LPA, respectively.

IIM Trichy's final placement report for 2022 showed that the institute attracted over 110 industry giants who offered a variety of job roles in Sales & Marketing, Finance, Consulting, IT & Analytics, Operations, and HR. The highest and average packages offered during this placement drive were INR 34 LPA and INR 17.01 LPA, respectively.

There are several ways to compare the quality of MBA programs at new IIMs such as IIM Ranchi and IIM Trichy. One method is to look at student performance and perception as reflected in B-school surveys. You can also try finding information about the experiences of graduates from these institutes. Another way to gauge the quality of an MBA program is to look at the performance of students in competitions, such as recruitment challenges, quizzes, paper presentations, and management fests. While these events can provide insight into student abilities, they may not necessarily reflect the capabilities of the faculty at a given institute.

To get a better understanding of the faculty of an MBA program, you may want to consider the learning approach of the program. A good MBA program will have faculty members who have both studied the subject area extensively and have practical experience in the field. You can also look at the clubs and events related to marketing at the institute, as well as any visiting faculty, guest lectures, workshops, or training that have been held in the last one to two years. A reputable institute should make this information publicly available.
