One of my friends studied at the School of Engineering, Tezpur University (TU). According to him, the most visible difference between IITs and NITs with Tezpur University is the brand name. Because this brand name could sometimes prove to be beneficial for your career.
Here are some points that make studying in Tezpur University worthy:
It is a constantly growing and developing institution. It might not reach the standards and popularity of IITs and NITs but is developing very fast which makes it better than many other newly established institutions.
Frankly speaking, both Electronics and Instrumentation and CSE are equally good branches that open up ample opportunities in the future. Let us have a brief comparison of the NIT Silchar, E&I, and TEZU.
Infrastructure – TEZU is leading in terms of the best infrastructure and well-equipped lab facilities, especially in the CSE branch.
Faculty – TEZU is gifted with more highly qualified and experienced faculties than others.
Placement – NITs and TEZU have had a good record of placement in recent years.
Research – CSE has an active and advanced research environment at TEZU.
Other than the qualities of the institute, your initial preference should be given to your interest in the core subject.
MCA placement at Tezpur University is good. In the recent placement drive, the highest CTC offered was 20 LPA. Around 60% of students from MCA got placement offers.
CSE department is among the oldest department at TU. Few years back it was declared as the ‘Center of Excellence’ by MHRD for its contributions. The department offers three different courses, i.e. B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA. All the courses are well-reputed. The department organizes various seminars and workshops around the academic year. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in various research projects.
Tezpur University is a great option for CSE. In North-East India, it can be ranked right after IITG. Here are some highlights of the institute.
Tezpur University is one of the best universities for B.Tech CSE. Given the option, you should go for it.
I have friends from both Tezpur University and SLIET Sangrur. Based on the conversations I had with them, I will say for CSE TU is far better.
So, TU is better than SLIET in all respects. It is in fact the best option to do CSE after IIT-G.
Other than IIM Shillong, Tezpur University is the only institute that uses CAT scores for admission in MBA. They also accept MAT scores. I have a few friends who attended TU for their MBA and according to them, it is a decent institute for pursuing your MBA.
A lot of recruiting companies visit the campus placements each year. In the last placement drive, the salary packages offered were in the range of 3.5-10 LPA. Major recruiting companies on TU are Wipro, HCL, ICICI, Axis Bank, etc.
The main difference between Tezpur University and Gauhati University is that the former is a central university while the latter is a state university. So, TU has a residential campus, central funds, and better infrastructure compared to Gauhati University.
In terms of quality of education, there is no such difference between the two universities. GU being the older university has better experiences. However, TU has improved a lot over the years. Both universities are well recognized in India.
I have a few friends from Tezpur University. According to them, the placement record for MBA is average. Most of the recruiting companies visiting the campus hire for local positing with salary packages of around 3.5 LPA.
Occasionally one or two companies offer few high-paying job roles. In the recent placement drive, DHL offered a salary package of 8 LPA.
However, you always have the option to opt for off-campus placements.
One of my cousins was in the same situation. He had very few options, mainly VIT, Tezpur University, and few NITs. He did some research and found that Tezpur University is considered the best central government institute. After talking to some students of the institute he also learned that the institute is great although the placement rate is not that good. It is a decent option if you want to pursue research.
His focus was placements. So, he chose VIT, Chennai and now he is a proud alumnus of the institute.
Here is a brief comparison of Tezpur University and VIT.
Parameters | Tezpur University | VIT |
Course fee | 2.11 lakhs | 7.83 lakhs |
Average CTC | 3.5 LPA | 6.39 LPA |
Highest CTC | 14 LPA | 44 LPA |
Major recruiters | HDFC, ICICI, Axis Bank | HP, Infosys, Microsoft |
So, choose an institute based on what you want out of your degree.
Tezpur University is a central University, whereas Kaziranga University is private. So the quality of education is better at TU. Also, the placement trends of the university have been quite good over the years. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered at the university was 3 LPA. So, for an MBA it is definitely the better option.
But when it comes to MBA, IIMs are the best choice. It’s better not to choose Govt. or private college for a professional degree like MBA.
