How much rank required in CUSAT CAT to get admission if I am a Haryana candidate?

AK

Going by the trends that we have come across in recent years, any non-Keralite has to secure a rank under 2000 in order to get shortlisted.

There might be a case that a particular branch has performed exceptionally well and even a rank below 2000 doesn’t seem to help. In that case, you have to wait for upcoming lists.

  • There are some students who have a lesser rank than yours, who have been shot-listed. This is because of the choice of their subjects.
  • For example, the closing rank for Fire and Safety is 300-500 and that for Computer Science and Electronics & Communication is 1500-1800.
  • If you realize that you don’t have a good rank, it's better that you don’t opt for those subjects as your first option.
  • Getting admission into the first campus is obviously tougher than the second one. But if you are subject-specific, you can go for the second campus.

The worst-case would be, you might have to wait for all the admissions to get over for “on the spot admission”. This aims at filling up the left-out seats. But this is just a fluke. It would be better if you don’t depend entirely on this and keep looking for other options at the same time.

What are the fees if I take an admission through the spot admission in CUSAT?

TA

There is no difference between the fees for general round admission and the fees for spot admission. However, the fees for NRI spot admission are higher.

  • At the time of admission, INR 55- 60 thousand is charged in a general round admission.
  • For an NRI spot admission, you will be charged an amount of INR 2 Lakhs, out of which INR 1.25 Lakhs would be a security deposit.
  • This means that this amount would be returned to you once you finish college.

Talking about the semester fee, there is again a slight difference between general round admission and NRI spot admission. It is INR 43 thousand for general round admission and INR 55 thousand for NRI spot admission.

How many marks are required to get into CUSAT in any stream?

AP

CUSAT has two campuses. There is a difference in infrastructure and facilities in the two campuses, thus having separate demands among candidates. So, the cut-off ranks of similar departments in the two campuses of CUSAT are different.

  • For getting a seat in any department of the first campus, you will require a rank within 1000, or maybe within 1200-1300 at maximum.
  • For getting a seat in any department at the second campus, the difference from the ranks of the first campus is huge. Also, it varies a lot from year to year. Sometimes, the required cut-off is within 2500-3000, whereas there are sessions with cut-offs of about 5000-6000 too.
  • Even after these ranks, there are chances of students getting a seat in CUSAT at the spot counseling rounds.

Hope this gives you some idea about the cut-offs of both the campuses of CUSAT.

With a rank of 787, can I get CS in CUSAT main campus?

NB

CS in CUSAT is the 2nd most sought out subject after Naval Architecture. In the CUSAT entrance exam the first few seats are filled in the Naval Architecture branch then the CS seats. In all the branches first, the seats are filled in the main campus and then in the second campus.

According to the previous year’s report, the required cutoff for CS in the first round was 740. While in the third round the cutoff was 1037. Going by the cutoff trends, I will say you have a good chance of getting CS on the main campus.

RG
Ritika Ghosh Posted On : July 28th, 2021
Studied at Amity University Kolkata (2019)

Since some of my friends studied at CUSAT, Let me share their insight on the companies that tend to visit CUSAT at the time of the placement.

  • In the CS background, the IT companies like Infosys and TCS visit the campus every year.
  • For the mechanical department, CEAT and KITKO companies have visited.
  • The college provides better placement opportunities for CS and IT Branches.
  • The fire and safety department of the college gets huge compensation due to the huge demand for fire engineering and less supply for fire engineering in India.
  • For CS and IT branches the students get placed with good packages from INR 10-20 LPA.
  • You just need to prepare well for placements should score well in your CGPA.

The placement percentage is low in the Mechanical branch, EEE, and Civil branches. You may not get core companies but you may get jobs in other sectors.

  • First of all, just do not think about rushing on the marks. Study well, work on the concepts, try to finish the syllabus, and manage your time well.
  • And secondly, coming to marks, well if you notch up about 300 then, you will surely be in the top 1500, and a 250 + will also get you a decent rank within 3000.

The competition is quite high at CUSAT over the years, and the trend continues. So, try to give your best. Manage your time well and have confidence in your hard work, you'll score well.

Is Kerala technological university better than CUSAT?

UM
Udit Mundra Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
B.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2011)

In my opinion, CUSAT is much better than KTU and there are multiple reasons why. One of the only reasons why KTU could be better than CUSAT is the fact that results are released within a month of conducting exams. So if you have deadlines coming up or are applying somewhere, you will not have to wait too long. CUSAT does not follow this scheme. Although recently, they have changed this scheme.

Additionally, the choice between these two colleges will heavily depend on the branch you are planning on applying to. As you know, every place will have its own pros and cons. The points below should probably help you gain some insight:

  • KTU and CUSAT are state universities. Moreover, they are both UGC and AICTE approved institutes. A plus point with CUSAT is that it has been accredited with NAAC grade A.
  •  CUSAT also has a relatively better and robust syllabus as compared to KTU. From my knowledge, it is tougher than NITs and possibly nearly equivalent to the syllabus taught in BITs and IITs.

If you want to compare, you should take a look at the first-year syllabus taught at both places.

  • CUSAT also has better faculty. Most of them hold a Ph.D. or are highly experienced individuals in their field of study.
  • Moreover, CUSAT is ranked among the top 1000 universities in the world whereas NITs themselves are not on the list.
  • If you are concerned about placements, you don’t need to worry about them. The highest package offered at CUSAT is INR 15 LPA with an average package of INR 4.7 LPA.
  • Major recruiters at the college include Cisco, L&T, and TCS whereas when it comes to KTU most students are of the opinion that only 30% of them have been placed.
  • Another major plus point is that the Engineering branch has been accredited under tier 1 colleges by NBA.
  • Lastly, the campus also plays a pivotal role when it comes to choosing between the two. My friends would describe it as the dream campus with exciting opportunities.

From this, my advice to you would be to definitely consider CUSAT over KTU for your studies. Your career will be set and you will have a plethora of opportunities open for you.

How good are the placements for B.Tech in IT students at CUSAT?

Jasmine Grover Posted On : February 23rd, 2024

The placement opportunities are good enough for B.Tech IT students at CUSAT. The main requirement is a good CGPA in all first 6 semesters of the degree, a good coding knowledge, and soft skills like communication.

You can acquire soft skills by participating in extracurricular activities during your degree. Infosys, Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, TCS Digital, Nissan Digital, Envestnet, Unisys and IBM are some of the companies that recruit IT students from the CUSAT campus.

What is the difference between spot admission and real time admission in CUSAT?

SG
Susmita Guho Posted On : September 27th, 2023
B.Tech Computer Science, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2010)

In the context of CUSAT "spot admission" and "real-time admission" are terms that are sometimes used interchangeably, but they can have slightly different meanings depending on the specific context. Both the terms are explained below:

Spot Admission :

  • A candidate is often admitted to a program on the spot or right away under a spot admission method, frequently at a particular event or counseling session.
  • It often happens when a university or institution holds a special admissions session to fill open seats in a specific degree or program.
  • Spot admission refers to candidates being admitted immediately after submitting the required paperwork, paying the required fees, and fulfilling all other admission conditions.

Real-Time Admission :

  • The term "real-time admission" can signify a variety of things that include continual or instantaneous admissions.
  • It can relate to any application evaluation and rapid decision-making procedure for admission, frequently occurring in real-time or shortly after the application deadline.
  • Real-time admission may include electronic application systems, prompt application processing, and prompt notification of admission decisions.

Depending on the unique policies and practices of the institution, these phrases may be used differently in the context of CUSAT or other universities. While real-time and spot admission both attempt to speed up the admissions process, there may be differences in the specific steps and lead times.

  • But this field is limited to getting a job, as most of the companies recruiting on-campus look for other colleges.

  • CUSAT is the best fire and safety branch in India.
Categories B.Tech in Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT
