Which is the better choice in terms of placements, NIT Silchar Civil or NIT Sikkim ECE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 31st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

It is difficult for me to say which department is better NIT Silchar Civil and NIT Sikkim ECE as both have their own strengths and weaknesses. I recommend researching both options and considering factors such as program curriculum, faculty, research opportunities, and job prospects before making a decision.

From what I know, ECE is a better branch than Civil in terms of job opportunities in India. However, if you consider the institutes, NIT Silchar is much better than NIT Sikkim. NIT Silchar Civil department has many experienced and qualified faculty. Usually, PSUs recruit the students of this branch, and the core jobs are limited.

I dont think you should choose NIT Sikkim ECE as it's a relatively new institute and hasn't established a strong rapport with the recruiters yet.

Ultimately, the decision depends on your personal preferences and career prospects.

Should I go for civil at NIT Sikkim or petroleum at Dehradun?

LD
Lipika Das Posted On : July 16th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Sikkim (2021)

Many students go through this dilemma and the right way to choose a college is to compare them on various aspects. As some of my friends are from these institutes, I can provide a bit of information about them.

  • NIT Sikkim is a very popular and reputed engineering institute but the college in Dehradun is not much reputed and also has less popularity.
  • To get admission to NIT Sikkim, you will have to clear the JEE exam.
  • But the college in Dehradun is a private college and you will have to sit for an exam conducted by the college to get admission.

Civil Engineering Department of NIT Sikkim

  • The students in this department are very talented and more than 50% of the students have scored more than 8 GPAs in their 3rd semester.
  • The faculty of this department is decent enough and very cooperative.
  • The weather here is very pleasant and the campus is very beautiful.
  • The infrastructure is not good enough as in private colleges. The lab facilities available in this department are also poor.
  • The placements at NIT Sikkim are very good. There will be PSUs and many other popular companies visiting the college, so the numbers are likely to increase further.
Categories Civil Engineering at NIT Sikkim
Course Fee 5.35 lakh
Highest CTC 12 LPA
Average CTC 5-7 LPA
Recruiting Companies Tata Steel, Ambuja Cement, Aditya Birla, BHEL, etc.

Hence, NIT Sikkim is a very good college to pursue civil engineering and you should definitely go for it over any other private institution. It will give various opportunities which will be very helpful for your career.

You should choose NIT Sikkim EC. The department has a great faculty base. Most of the faculty members are alumni of reputed IITs. The institute offers good placement opportunities to students. For 2020-21 academic year, NIT Sikkim placements have seen a 72.86% placement rate. Reputed companies such as TCS, Godrej, Infosys, etc. take part in the placement drive.

What is the condition of the hostel of NIT Sikkim?

SC
Satadru Chatterjee Posted On : July 5th, 2021
Studied B.Tech from NIT Trichy (2019)

Do not come here with too many expectations because you are most likely to get disappointed. My friend is currently in 3rd year of B.Tech at NIT Sikkim, and according to his first-hand experience, the hostel scenario is as follows:

BOYS HOSTEL

  • Firstly, the boys' hostels are located outside the campus, about 2 km away from the campus.
  • There are 3 hostel buildings namely BH-11, BH-12, and BH-13. You will be allotted a room with about 2,3 or a maximum of 4 people to share.
  • Although attached bathrooms for each room are a big plus point, you won’t get any wi-fi facility in any of the hostels.
  • No matter which hostel you belong to, you will have a common recreation room with TV, TT, carom, etc., and a common mess as well.
  • Water and electricity issues are persistent.

GIRLS HOSTEL

  • In terms of girls hostels, they are located inside the campus which is a huge plus point.
  • The rooms are bigger in size and have attached bathrooms. However, one room is to be shared by 5 girls.
  • The mess facility is also separate for all hostels. Also, you will be provided with a wi-fi connection, unlike the boys' hostels.
  • There are no issues related to water and electricity shortage.

The hostels might not be the best in terms of infrastructure or facility, it all boils down to the memories you make during your journey. However, if hostel facilities are your topmost priority, then NIT Sikkim is not the place for you.

  • If you want to pursue EEE, go for NIT Sikkim. Also, if your dream is to get a government job or PSU job after your graduation then you must opt for NIT Sikkim, being a government college, it will always provide you a preference over other privates colleges.

In the end, it all comes down to the branch you have an interest in. Choose wisely between these two options.

Harshita Misra Posted On : July 9th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kota (2019)

Among the above two institutes, CSE at IIIT Kota is a good option, considering the placement statistics of the institute. The table below gives a brief level of comparison of both the institutes, specific to the branch of CSE.

Particulars

IIIT Kota

NIT Sikkim

Total Fees (B.Tech)

  • The syllabus followed by IIIT Kota is very much advanced, being a much newer institute. Students get to learn a lot about newer technologies, some of which are not even taught in NIT Jaipur.
  • Considering the details of placement in both the institutes, it is very much evident that CSE at IIIT Kota is much ahead of CSE at NIT Sikkim in terms of the average and highest package offered.

So, considering the placements and curriculum into account, IIIT Kota is a better choice for Computer Science and Engineering.

Which is better, PGEC or NIT Sikkim?

RS
Reshmi Sen Posted On : July 16th, 2021
Studied at NIT Sikkim (2019)

Both PGEC and NIT Sikkim are very good colleges. But choosing NIT Sikkim will be a better choice as it is a national level college and is much better than PGEC. Being a student of NIT Sikkim, I can assure you that it will be a good choice.

  • NIT Sikkim is one of the leading NITs among all other NITs and has immense popularity around the nation.
  • The faculty members are very talented and well experienced.
  • They also have a diverse student population.
  • All the students have cleared the national level entrance exam to get admission to this college so they are very good with academics too.
  • The placements of this college are very good as most of the top companies visit the campus for interviews.
  • The only drawback of NIT Sikkim is that it doesn't have a permanent campus yet. But this problem won't have any negative impact on your studies as the faculty and academics of this college are excellent.
Categories NIT Sikkim
Course Fee 5.35 lakh
Highest CTC 22 LPA
Average CTC 8.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Infosys, Bosch, Crisil, etc.

Hence, NIT Sikkim is a very good college to pursue engineering courses and its academic and placement scenario are much better than any other state-level or private college.
