The chemical engineering department in NIT Jalandhar is considered to be average, based on the faculty and availability of proper lab equipment. I know little about the Chemical Engineering department at NIT Jalandhar since one of my friends goes there.

The table below gives a brief overview of the chemical engineering department of NIT Jalandhar.

Total Fees (B.Tech Chemical Engineering)

Rs. 6.76 Lakhs

Median Salary Offered

Rs. 6 LPA

Total number of seats (Chemical Engineering)

90

JEE Main cut-off (Chemical Engineering)

Chemical Engineering:

There are some good faculties in the chemical engineering department, but very little lab equipment and proper experimental facilities available. Don’t opt for this branch if you have other alternatives.

If you have already taken admission for chemical engineering at NIT Jalandhar, it is up to you to make the best of your degree. A steady self-study routine can help with that.

Although in the past some alumni of the institute have successfully secured good GATE ranks. So there is a decent option for PSUs and M.Tech.

All in all, if you are determined and utilize your time well at the institute, you can definitely have good career prospects.

In addition, LNCT is the only engineering college in Bhopal that offers Chemical Engineering among the 65 private engineering institutes. This institution provides appropriate guidance as well as practical analysis.

But Chemical Engineering at the institute does not enjoy the same exposure as branches like CSE or IT. If you want decent placement opportunities then you will have to work for them on your own. In 2021 placement drive Chemical Engineering students from LNCT were recruited by Indian Oil, Tata Chemicals, Reliance Petroleum, etc.

Which is better, IIT Delhi (chemical) or BITS Pilani (CSE)?

A
Admin Posted On : July 9th, 2024

I am a B.Tech Chemical Engineering student at IIT Delhi. According to me, these are the main factors you should consider while making up your mind:

  • Demand: CSE is more in-demand than chemical engineering.
  • Brand: The “IIT” tag holds more brand value than the “BITS” tag. The “IIT” tag will be more advantageous if you want to apply to foreign universities for higher education later on.
  • Fees: IIT Delhi is an affordable choice, whereas, BITS Pilani has high fees for its engineering programs. Additionally, IIT Delhi has better placements, which places it at a better position in terms of ROI.

Here is a comparison between IIT Delhi Chemical and BITS Pilani CSE:

Parameters

IIT Delhi Chemical

BITS Pilani CSE

Course Fee

INR 99,650 (for sem-1)*

INR 3.32 lakh (for sem-1)

Highest Package (2023: Overall)

INR 2.5 CPA

INR 60. 75 LPA

Average Package (2023: Overall)

INR 17.60 LPA

INR 30.37 LPA

CTC Range (for 2023)

-

(IT branches) INR 11 - 38 LPA

Campus Recruiters

Microsoft, CISCO, Accenture, Brain & company, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited

EY, HSBC,KPMC, HCL,IBM, TCS

*This is the fee-structure for General/OBC students with family income>5 LPA.

Even though CSE is a highly sought after branch in the current market, I would suggest you opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi will offer a better ROI, and its brand name will be of immense benefit if you wish to pursue higher studies in India and abroad after graduation.

You can do some research on the career and research opportunities after Chemical Engineering, and see if this branch aligns with your future goals.
