How is campus life of students at IIM Bangalore?

DJ
Devansh Jha Posted On : May 15th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

IIM Bangalore is known for having one of the most beautiful college campuses in India. Few of the splendid amenities are single-room accommodations, almost 24-hour eating points, best sports facilities in any of the IIMs.
The average duration of lecture hours per day in the first year is 6 hours which reduces in the consecutive years depending upon the electives chosen in each term.
Students of IIM Bangalore have a 5-day working week, with quizzes and exams scheduled on weekends as well. Rarely, extra classes are scheduled on weekends in case of mid-week offs. There are more than 25 clubs promoting academics and extracurriculars. There is one club for each specialization in addition to music, dramatics, and sports clubs. These clubs are good for socializing as well as taking a break from academics. There are excellent sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor, like badminton, basketball, volleyball, football, cricket, tennis, pool table, etc. to mention a few.
IIT Bangalore has excellent accommodation facilities that promote harmony between juniors and seniors. Students of the same batch usually are made to stay within the same blocks.

The security and management at Amity University Gwalior are excellent. Besides 24-hour guards, there are stringent security systems through smart cards, biometric readers, latest IP cameras to ensure the security of students. Students who bring vehicles need separate permission passes. You will need a signed pass from the hostel warden and concerned mentors to leave the hostel premises. Whether you are a day scholar or a hosteller, you will be secure on campus.

  • Seeing that my friend was a basketball player, she was asked ‘Is there an NBA in India?’
  • What is India’s ranking in world basketball?

Rather than JEE Mains percentile, KJ Somaiya takes admission based on JEE Mains rank. For 2021, the required cutoff for KJ Somaiya was as follows.

Branch  Cutoff
Computer Science  1338
Information Technology 1824
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering  4525
Artificial Intelligence and Data Science  2562

What are my chances of getting CSE in Thapar University with 72 in JEE Mains and 95% in CBSE?

VM
Vipul Mishra Posted On : July 8th, 2022
B.Tech Computer Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

Getting CSE in Thapar University with 72 in JEE Mains and 95% in CBSE will be difficult. For CSE, Thapar University cutoff stays around 96 percentile. If you want to join the institute, you should take a drop year and prepare for JEE Main again. The required cutoff changes year to year, depending on different factors. So, try to score above 130 in JEE Main, to be on the safe side.

What are some funny questions asked in a XLRI interview?

IC
Indrani Chatterjee Posted On : May 10th, 2021
PGDM from Xavier School of Management (2018)

One of my friends is a student of XLRI and her interview experience was quite strange. When she looks back at the experience it seems quite funny. Here are a few snippets of her experience.

  • First, she was asked to explain the differences between Shakespearean Tragedy and Sophoclean Tragedy. This question is actually quite great for checking how deeply you can analyze dramatic narratives. But the fact that it was the very first question makes it funny.
  • There was a follow-up question to the previous one. The question was, ‘How do you relate Shakespearean tragedy to human resources?’ and she was asked to state it with appropriate examples.
  • One of the interviewers was from Civil Engineering and asked questions like, ‘What is the most reactive metal?’ (Ans- Sodium) and ‘What is the atomic number of Sodium?’ These questions were strange for my friend as she is a humanities student.

Based on many incidents that I heard from my friends over the year, it seems that most interviews of B-schools are of non-standardized nature. In most cases, the type of questions they ask depends on what presumptions they make about the candidate, and some depending upon their bias on a particular topic. However, it is a matter of discussion. Here is an interesting anecdote, I know a few people who have failed in XLRI PI round but have successfully cracked IIMs PI.
