Which of the following is better in terms of placements: IIM K, IIM I, ISB, FMS or XLRI?

A
Admin Posted On : February 1st, 2024

ISB caters to working professionals with more than 2 years of experience. If you do not belong to this category, this institution is not for you.

Now coming to the other options,

The HR program of XLRI is very old and renowned. Because of it, XLRI receives a slightly higher number of recruiters. This boosts its average package. Its limited batch size also benefits its placements. IIMK, FMS and XLRI receive more or less the same companies. But IIMK and XLRI attract MBB (McKinsey, Bain, BCG) for their front end roles, which IIMI and FMS do not.

Considering all these factors, XLRI is the best choice, mainly because of its small batch size. It is followed by IIMK and FMS, and IIM Indore comes last.

I have scored 56? in 10th and 82% in 12th. Can I have chances to get into IIM Indore?

HJ
Himanshi Jain Posted On : June 15th, 2023

These score records are not good enough to predict whether you’d get admission into IIM Indore or not. But the possibilities are meager since IIM Indore is one of the few colleges that give too much weightage to your past academic scores. Here’s a table for your reference:

Component

Weightage

CAT

20%

X Marks

34%

XII Marks

40%

Diversity Factor

6%

Total

100%

It is very evident that for you to have a shortlist call you need to score exceptionally well in CAT and be in the top 1 % in the country. Once you get the PI call, it would be totally up to you and you will have a fair chance of converting your interview call. It gives 40 % weightage to your PI score so start working on your resume and give as many mocks as possible if you’re preparing for next year.

Life at IPM in IIM Indore is quite hectic. The course curriculum of IPM comprises a large number of diverse subjects which keeps the students busy. The earliest slot for the IPM classes start at 9 am and the last slot for the classes end at 7 pm, and mostly all the slots won’t be filled in a day. The sprawling campus offers amazing scenic views.

A lot of students spend their evenings taking part in the sports facilities available on the campus. The campus also has a gym and swimming pool. Every Saturday a new movie is screened in the auditorium.

Students also take part in various activities conducted by the Students Activity council and the fests. The student’s activity council consists of Committees like the Academic Affairs Committee, Infrastructure Committee, Student Exchange Committee, etc. The institute has various clubs such as the Social Club, Activity Club, and Entrepreneurship Club. Also, there is a music club, dance club, gaming club, drama club, and so on in which students can take part.

The department organizes two of the biggest fests of IIM Indore, Atharv, a management and cultural fest, and Ranbhoomi, a sports fest. Students learn important life skills like leadership, handling diversity, teamwork, and more by participating in such activities.

I'm a scheduled tribe candidate. I have no distinctions on my CV. Should I stay in IIM Ahmedabad or should I go to IIM Indore for lesser competition?

TS
Tuhina Sen Posted On : February 11th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2020)

You should stay in IIM Ahmedabad. Discussed below are the reasons why.

Comparison: (Winning Institution - IIM Ahmedabad)

  • You will face the same level of stress and workload at both IIM Indore and Ahmedabad. But the placements at IIM Indore may not be as good as those at IIM A. You definitely stand a better chance of a good job at IIM A.
  • Also, in terms of brand value and ranking, IIM Ahmedabad is significantly ahead of IIM Indore which would further add value to your CV.

Useful Tips:

  • You can turn the competition to your advantage by making friends with smart and positive people and getting into their groups for project work.
  • Be diligent in class. Remember, there is no option to hard work.
  • Work on your communication skills if they are weak. Actively participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

IIM Indore has a big batch size as compared to IIM Ahmedabad. If you want less competition then stick with IIM Ahmedabad. Following this would help you carve your own way amidst the competition around.

Trust me, the experience is definitely worth it. You wouldn’t regret being a part of the IIM A fraternity.

Should I join IIM Indore or SJMSOM?

DP
Dipanshi Pathak Posted On : December 24th, 2021
MBA (Business Analytics) at IIM Indore (2020)

My cousin recently graduated from SJMSOM and has begun working at Fidelity Investments as a Delivery Manager for almost 3 years now. He suggests going for SJMSOM only if,

  • You essentially prefer studying amidst a comparably smaller batch size.
  • You further want to be at the Financial Capital, for either internships or job purposes.
  • You prefer going for the best infrastructure and basic amenities.
  • You can enjoy the brand value likewise.

You can opt for IIM Indore only if you prefer the following,

  • You are confident that you can compete and stand out with a larger batch.
  • You will receive the major brand value that comes along with IIMs.
  • You want to secure a seat at one of the best management institutes.
  • However, the placements of either institute are somewhat similar, with relevant recruiters visiting both campuses occasionally during placement seasons.
  • Both the institutes offer exchange opportunities as per schedule.

Here is a brief overview of both SJMSOM and IIM Indore.

Institute  SJMSOM IIM Indore
Average CTC  20 LPA 20 LPA
Highest CTC  26 LPA  32 LPA
Major recruiters  Yes Bank, Goldman Sachs, OLA, Wipro  PwC, BCG, Microsoft, MX Player

Both institutes are reputed so take a call based on your personal preference.
