Do IIT Guwahati CSE students get similar opportunities for foreign university/company internships compared to IIT Bombay?
My friend was a CS student at IIT Guwahati and he failed to secure a summer internship. According to him, only 3 students from the entire batch of CS second-year students got foreign internship offers. When he asked his friends at IIT Bombay about the same, he came to know that 6 students had got foreign internship offers.
There are a number of reasons why older IITs offer more opportunities than II Guwahati. Let’s explore some of these reasons
- Unlike IIT Guwahati, older IITs have collaborations with top foreign universities. For example, IIT Kanpur’s SURGE program has tie-ups with Caltech and provides funds for undergraduate internships.
- Professors are ready to accept students for internships but the lack of funds makes it impossible to secure a paid foreign internship.
- Another major problem is the lack of focus on research at IIT Guwahati. Students at IIT Bombay have completed great research projects whereas IIT Guwahati students have no research accomplishments up their sleeve. Their CV is extremely lacking and does not fetch good packages.
All in all, the department doesn't encourage foreign internships and older IITs offer way better opportunities compared to IIT Guwahati.
How much should I get in 12th and the JEE Mains to get a BTech CSE at IIIT Delhi?
IIIT Delhi follows a scheme of bonus marks. These marks are awarded for excellence in academics, sports, olympiads, etc.
The top 1% performers in the 12th CBSE boards are awarded bonus scores. To apply for bonus marks through academics, you must be a Delhi candidate. Without bonus marks, only your JEE Mains rank is considered.
Here are the ranks for CSE at IIIT Delhi:
- With 6 bonus marks, 9-10k rank.
- With 10 bonus marks, 13-14k rank.
- With no bonus marks, 5-6k rank.
A bonus percentile of 2/3.5 will be directly added to your JEE Mains percentile.
Eligibility for B.Tech at IIIT Delhi is-
- A minimum of 80 marks in Maths.
- 80% in best 5 (including PCM) in 12th boards.
These are the requirements to get a B.Tech CSE at IIIT Delhi.
Should I pursue IT in NIT Surathkal or CSE in SVNIT Surat?
Both NITK and SVNIT are tier-1 NITs and are excellent choices for engineering. Moreover both the branches are one of the most coveted branches so the choice of colleges is rather difficult here.
Go for CSE at SVNIT, if you are interested in CSE only. Usually CSE faculty is better than IT faculty. But if the tag of the college matters more then go for IT at NIT Surathkal as it has a better reputation than SVNIT in terms of job placement, alumni network, infrastructure, academics, start-up culture, etc. Here are a few additional reasons why you should choose NIT Surathkal
- The IT curriculum in NIT Surathkal is better than that of CSE in SVNIT on all parameters.
- The lab infrastructure and facilities are much better in NIT Surathkal. The curriculum is up to date.

- Placement statistics of the IT dept in NIT Surathkal are also way better.
Ultimately, the choice between the two depends on your own preferences. However, I can say with certainty that choosing either colleges and branches will give you amazing results choices because CSE & IT are the most in-demand branches, combined with the tier-1 college tag.
Is joining mechanical engineering in IIT BHU or CSE in NIT Surathkal or CSE in DTU better?
Following the sheep mentality, many claim that it’s the branch that shapes your career and not your institute. Well, don’t let such people mislead you into believing your career is all set if you take CSE irrespective of the institute you belong to.
CSE branch is a major crowd-puller but trust me any branch taken up at IITs is better than other technical institutes. The branch is temporary but the tag you will be getting is permanent and will stay with you forever. Moreover, as for the placement opportunities that are better for CS, you can always opt for noncore placements and acquire coding skills.
The campus life and exposure provided by IITs is like no other so if you choose a technical institute other than IIT, you will be missing out on a good college life. Which one is better: a CSE at NIT, Hamirpur or an ECE at PEC?
In terms of NIRF 2023 rankings, NIT Hamirpur is placed 127th while PEC is placed 138th among Engineering colleges in India.
Keeping the rankings apart, your choice of college should be based on two factors-
- Branch- If you have a particular interest in one of these branches, I would recommend you choose your college according to that. Both these branches offer good placements, though CSE students end up grabbing the highest packages. Both the colleges offer decent placements.
During the 2023 placement season, the median package for ECE branch at PEC stood at INR 18.40 LPA. Last year, the CSE branch at NIT Hamirpur recorded 96.81% placements. 139 offers were received in total, and the highest salary stood at INR 1.12 CPA.
- Brand name- Both the colleges are at par with one another, but NIT Hamirpur carries the much-valued ‘NIT’ tag. It has a good infrastructure and a beautiful campus. The surroundings are serene and close to nature. If you have an interest in traveling, photography, and trekking, Hamirpur is more suitable to explore these interests. PEC definitely offers more exposure, being based out of Chandigarh.
Based on your personal preference, you can choose either of the two options.
Which is better to opt, aerospace engineering in IIT Madras or CSE in NIT Trichy?
Anyone who has the option of choosing IIT Madras must without further thinking grab the opportunity.
- IIT Madras is Ranked the No.1 Engineering college for the past few subsequent years.

Computer Science Engineering programs are considered to be good at both ITM University Gwalior Campus as well as ITM University Sithouli campus. While both institutes have the same management under the umbrella of ITM. However, when making a choice between the two colleges, students can consider program eligibility, thrust areas in CSE, and placements. The following points highlight the same:

I know some of the people from both institutes. Based on what I heard from them, IIIT Bhopal is better than IIIT Ranchi.

- Mentor Institute: IIIT Bhopal is mentored by NIT Bhopal and classes are held inside the campus of NIT Bhopal itself. So you will have access to all the experienced faculty and facilities you would have got if you were in NIT. Being in NIT, you can participate in all the national-level competitions.
- Location: The location of IIIT Bhopal is great. It is located in the peaceful city of Bhopal. It has less traffic and the college is close to both the airport and railway station.
- Hostel: Hostels for the first are at RGPV University, which is the head university of all the engineering colleges in the state. It has a huge campus with modern facilities. Buses are provided from hostel to college and that too free of cost.
- Food: The quality of food at the canteen is not so good.
- Academics: Academics facilities are great and you have to work hard to stay in sync with the syllabus. The course-work will be quite hectic in the first year and you would be given 30,50 or sometimes even 100 questions as an assignment. You will learn C-Programming, HTML, CSS, latex, etc.
