How was your NMIMS interview experience?

AP
Aswin Prajapati Posted On : February 17th, 2022
studied Master of Business Administration Degrees & Human Resources (2018)

One of my friends appeared in NMIMS interview back in 2020. Here is his experience in short.

Background -

  • 10th/12th/Grad - 93.1%/83%/8 CGPA
  • NMAT percentile - 97
  • Work experience - 26 months in Automobile sector

Case Discussion:

After identity verification, they were handed out badges for case discussion marking. They were taken to a different floor and asked to sit according to their badge number afterward.

The topic of case discussion was - ‘The importance of background checks beyond the regular checks done by the companies. Checks regarding behaviors and social media are important for companies.’

The topic was related to the #Metoo allegations and other allegations made on senior management of the companies.

Interview:

The interview panel had 3 professors.

  • First he was asked to talk about his background. They also asked a couple of questions regarding his job.
  • Next question was - ‘Why MBA?’. My friend talked about his goals to learn the basics of Product Management, in reply.
  • Following that he was asked about his other options and CAT percentile.
  • The last question was on his knowledge of the academic structure of NMIMS.

Although my friend felt that the interview was not a success, he was able to convert the call.

Can I expect a placement after studying BBA at NMIMS?

AT
Animesh Tripathi Posted On : March 9th, 2023
BBA student - JU - JDBI - (2015-18)

If you are considering pursuing BBA at NMIMS Mumbai, the placement scenario is pretty good, with decent opportunities in the fields of Finance and Marketing. However, keep in mind that the course fee is high, and the cost of living in Mumbai is also significant.

If you are interested in pursuing more diverse specializations at the graduation level, this college may not be the best option for you. Additionally, if you plan to pursue a Master's degree right after graduation, the cost of the program may be heavy on your pocket.

Despite this, NMIMS is still a good option for those looking to start their career in finance or marketing after graduation, and the average placements are better than other BBA colleges in India.

Ultimately, the decision to attend NMIMS should be based on your personal choices and opinions. It is important to seek a second opinion and consider the diverse range of industries that BBA pass-outs from NMIMS go into.

Keep in mind that while the median salary for BBA pass-outs is around Rs. 7.5 lacs, actual salaries may vary depending on a number of factors such as the industry, the company, the individual's skills and experience, and the location of the job. Starting salaries for BBA pass-outs from NMIMS are typically in the range of Rs. 3-4 LPA, but it is important to remember that this is just an estimate and may vary based on individual circumstances.

Is NMIMSs average salary really above INR 16 LPA?

SD
Shreya Das Posted On : January 17th, 2022
PGDM Marketing, SVKM'S NMIMS, Navi Mumbai Campus (2021)

According to the student’s reviews online, The average CTC (domestic) is INR 18.33 LPA. All the B-Schools of the country publish their placement reports based on CTC or cost to company numbers.

There is a huge difference between CTC and in-hand salary. So if your question was related to 16 lakhs CTC then it could be a possibility but if your question was related to 16 lakhs in hand salary then it might vary.

The average salary package may also vary depending on the company and your overall academic performance. Some companies offer students a 18-20 LPA salary package but they also have better grades. Whereas some Mass recruiting companies like TCS often give lots of job offers but with a lesser salary package.

Do a fresher have a chance to get into NMIMS?

SG
Sanaya Gupta Posted On : May 17th, 2021
Studied Marketing at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (2019)

Yes, there are equal chances of both freshers and experienced employees to get a seat in NMIMS. There are several aspects that a candidate needs to consider to get a chance in institutes like NMIMS, and some of them are listed below in points.

  • Being a fresher or having some experience in the industry does not matter much. The main things that matter are the entrance scores, along with the candidate’s performance in group/case discussion and personal interviews.
  • You should focus on your preparation for the entrance exams.
  • During the interviews, it is good to have an interesting profile that you will discuss and showcase. So, internship and extra-curricular participation is a good thing for building a top-class resume.
  • You should have a clear vision about your reason for pursuing an MBA, along with a detailed description of matters of interest like Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, etc. The PI round mostly revolves around these aspects only.
  • There are some institutes where academics play a very crucial role. But, that is not the case with NMIMS, giving very low weightage to academic results.
  • In general, NMIMS gives 70% weightage to NMAT score, 15% to CD and PI scores, 5% to work experience, 5% in gender diversity, and 5% to academics.
  • In the 2018-2020 batch, there were 27% freshers, which makes it quite evident the chances of freshers in the institute.

Therefore, freshers can definitely get a seat in NMIMS, provided they have the correct profile and perform well in the entrance, CD, and PI rounds.

Is the PGDM program from NMIMS worth it? Or should I opt for a regular distance MBA from SMUDE?

UK
Utsav Kamra Posted On : March 9th, 2023
Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur

Some of the prominent features of the NMIMS blended learning program include online weekend lectures, access to best-in-class content, academic excellence, case studies and assignments for every subject, accreditation, and recognition by UGC-DEB AICTE, online exams and submissions, personal contact sessions, student portal updates, and industry acceptance ratio.

It is essential to choose wisely when selecting a program. Consider your personal preferences and needs, as well as the offerings of each institute. With a blended learning experience and strong industry acceptance ratio, NMIMS is a great option to consider, especially for those who wish to pursue certification courses.

If you are considering business schools, then NMIMS Mumbai should be among your top choices as it is considered to be one of the best in the country.

It is worth noting that, in my experience, distance MBA programs are not as effective as in-person programs. While you may learn 50% of the material from academics, the other 50% comes from interacting and learning from your peers. In-person programs provide more opportunities for peer learning, which can be difficult to replicate in distance MBA programs.

Is it worth spending 18 lakhs at NMIMS MBA (MUMBAI)?

GP
Girisha Pandey Posted On : July 27th, 2021
PGDM from NMIMS Hyderabad (2019-2021)

Do not believe in the ranking of the college. It will cost you if you are not a resident of Mumbai as the college does not have a hostel and spending this much amount for an MBA is really stupidity.

You will get an average package of around 12.5-13 LPA for core and 9-10 LPA for HR. Also, the college charges separate amounts for GDPI round and after the release of results, the college demands 9 lakh be deposited immediately within a week.

Also, it is believed that sitting in centralized AC and roaming in posh areas would not help in your overall development but exposure to different fields prepares you for the professional front.

Lastly, we can say that spending too much without availing facilities is not worth it. So abstain from getting admission here. Instead, take admission in other top management colleges where you get exposure to various other fields as well.

Which college would be better for Finance, IMT Ghaziabad or NMIMS?

SK
Singdhanjan Kar Posted On : July 29th, 2021
MBA BM, XLRI (2018)

If you are aiming for a finance profile, then you should go for NMIMS Mumbai any day without a doubt. There are various reasons for the same. Some of which are as follows.

  • Batch Size - NMIMS Mumbai has a smaller batch size than IMT Ghaziabad. A smaller batch size always helps especially during placements.
  • Location - Mumbai is the financial capital of India and thus many companies have their offices here. So it will be easy for you to get internships and other industry relationships.
  • Placements - The final placements are of much better quality and the profiles offered are also quite good. The average CTC offered at the institute is around 17 LPA.
  • Faculty - The finance professors are also quite good here.

So I think that NMIMS Mumbai will be the college you should choose if you are interested in finance.

How is B.Sc Economics at NMIMS Mumbai?

PJ
Pooja Johar Posted On : June 29th, 2021
MBA, SVKM's NMIMS, Batch 2017-19

The B.Sc Economics course offered by the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics of the NMIMS Mumbai is great and will be a wonderful experience if you factor out the cost of the course.

Academics:

  • The course is well balanced and the pedagogy not only includes core subjects but also from fields such as psychology, sociology, political science, IT, etc.
  • The institute also hosts many guest lectures and seminars which offer a better understanding of the real world.
  • The demerit of the course is that it is too focused and requires a lot of attention. Attendance is taken seriously.

Fees:

  • The yearly fee for the batch of 2017-20 was INR 2.5 lakhs.
  • The university provides very limited accommodation options, so you need to live for yourself in Mumbai. Depending on your lifestyle and accommodation you will need another INR 3.5 lakhs to INR 7 lakhs per annum towards living expenses.

So even if you take the lower amount, you will need close to INR 18 lakhs to INR 20 lakhs for the whole 3 years of the undergraduate program.

Placements:

Here are the placement stats released by the department for the batch of 2016-19.

  • Total number of students – 87
  • Number of students opting for placements – 18
  • Percentage of students placed who opted for placements – 77%
  • Highest salary – INR 11.60 lakhs per annum
  • Average salary – INR 4.60 lakhs per annum
  • Some recruiters – PwC, KPMG, Nomura, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mu Sigma, JP Morgan India Services, IDBI Federal Life, etc.

The experience is really good, but choose the institute only if you are willing to pay the huge fees for your undergraduate.
