Being a top university, it attracts lots of students from not only all over the country but also students from various countries around the world. So it is quite obvious that you would encounter many Sikh students at the university as well.

You may also be lucky enough to share your room with a Sikh student for the next 2 or 3 or 4 years of your life. There might be a possibility that the students of Punjab (who are predominantly Sikhs) are accommodated with a person of the same region. You have got a very good chance of staying and making friends with one.

The college is truly cosmopolitan and has a Gurudwara as well for the Sikh devotees. The most famous festival of the Sikhs, Baisakhi, is celebrated with much pomp and show during which there is a grand display of Gatka, Nagar Kirtan, Paath, and finally a Langar which is open for all the students of the university.

It's confusing because students are presented with several college options and are unsure which to pursue. However, no one can make that decision for you because it is entirely dependent on your preferences.

MIT is a good college that is well known even outside of India. One of my friends studied there and here's what I got to know from him.

• The curriculum is simple, and you don't have to put too much pressure on yourself.
• At Manipal, you will be exposed to a different way of life, which you will remember for the rest of your life.
• Students will have their ups and downs, but Manipal will be there to support you.
• The support is not only for the frontbenchers or the backbenchers it's for everyone whether it's in the student's studies, projects, college clubs, or the nightlife.

Decide what the college's top priority is, and then make a decision based on your interests and preferences. Overall, Manipal is a potential choice.

I have a few friends from Manipal University, so I can give you some information regarding this. The scholarships that you can avail of at Manipal University are as follows.

Freeship Scholarship:

• Advantage: In a Freeship scholarship you don’t have to pay a tuition fee. It does not include hostel fees.
• How to Get: Freeship scholarship is awarded to students who ranked under 1000 in MU-OET. It also depends on the family income too. But you are required to maintain 8 CGPA for the whole 4 years during your course to be eligible.

AICTE Scholarship:

• Advantage: Tuition will get reduced. You do not need to maintain CGPA to be eligible for the scholarship.
• How to Get: Students who get a decent rank in MU-OET are awarded an AICTE scholarship. It also depends on the student’s family income. Different family income group get a different discount on their tuition fee.

But if you change your branch in the first year, you will have to forgo the scholarship and pay the full fee from the second year.

Therefore, if you are thinking of joining Manipal university then go for it and don’t worry much about tuition fee. There are several scholarships given by Manipal university to students.

Gangtok is a great place with many hangout spots.

• There are many restaurants and pubs near SMIMS. Hotlilx, Casion, Mayfair are some of the favorite spots for students to hang out. Some of the restaurants also have live band performances on weekends. You can go watch it with your friends.
• There are Tashi Viewpoint, Ganesh Tok, Rumtek Monestry.
• Near the campus, there are CCD, The Coffee Shop, Baker’s Cafe.
• Even if you are broke, you can grab a Roll from the Roll House and a hot coffee from Tripi Bakers and sit by the roadside and enjoy your evening.
• If you are fond of shopping, you can go to Mayfair Resort, Cherry Villa, Nork Hill, etc.
• You can also stay in your hostel, party with your friends, or binge-watch your favorite shows.

But don’t party away the weekends, try to get some studies done too. As competition at the institute is quite high.

Nirma University, Manipal University, and Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering, all are good institutes.

Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering:

• Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering is a Government college and is older than Manipal University and Nirma University.
• It has good faculty, a good student environment that is energetic and keeps on motivating students. There are lots of extra activities which you can join.
• Its fees are quite affordable.
• Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering’s placement record is also good.

Nirma University:

• Nirma University is a private university. It is known for its placement and quality.
• They are quite strict about discipline on the college campus but have a perfect environment. You must attend 85% of the class as they are very strict in the following discipline, also you will need to complete your assigned work on time if you are studying at Nirma.
• Course fees are quite high and you have to pay much more than you pay at Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering.

Manipal University:

Manipal University’s main campus is at Manipal, Karnataka. It is a good university and you can consider it to pursue ECE.

Here is a brief highlight of the recent placement statistics for the institutes.

It is advisable that if you are looking for a more economically affordable college then go for Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering. But if you can afford to pay huge amounts as fees then Nirma University will be the best choice for you. You can prefer Nirma University first, then Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Engineering College, and finally Manipal University.

After the MU OET results are released by the University, the counseling of the students starts for all three campuses (Manipal University Karnataka, Manipal University Jaipur, and Sikkim Institute of Technology).

• You are required to select the venue for counseling from the available centers before you download the hall ticket.
• Make sure that you fulfill all the eligibility criteria before you report to the counseling Centre.
• Only the candidates whose ranks are included in the counseling schedule are required to visit the venue.
• Your physical presence is mandatory for the admission process.
• At the venue, you will be required to be present in the counseling hall according to the ranks you scored in the MU OET Examination.
• You can select any branch available during your turn.
• Once the seat for admission is assigned, you cannot change it later under any circumstance.

During counseling, you must present the required original documents and two sets of photocopies of the same. For admission, the University would retain these documents till the completion of your course.

One of my cousins studied at Amrita University. According to him, the faculty members at Amrita are really good. Many of them work across different research centers, departments, and multiple campuses. I would clarify that I do not have much knowledge about the faculties at the other mentioned colleges and thus won’t be able to provide any insights.

• Having said that, faculties are just a part of our studies and do not constitute the whole studies themselves.
• They contribute to our studies but the major part of it depends on us as students.
• They won’t be looking after or spoon-feed the syllabus like in school. They will teach you and guide you, it is your responsibility to learn whatever is being taught.

You should also get engaged with peer groups and other extracurricular activities out of your sheer interest and self-motivation. This plays a very important role as well as provides a lasting impression.

One of my close friends graduated from Manipal University, Jaipur, and here are some review points according to him.

The course of computer and communications (CCE) contains 70% of the CS course and 15% of IT with basic communications of digital and analog systems. The branch is new at Manipal University. On the main campus, CCE has a higher placement than CS.
