Should IIMs opened in 2015 (Jammu Sirmaur Vizag Nagpur) be preferred over IMT Ghaziabad?
No, I don't think the new IIMs should be preferred over a well-established institute like IMT Ghaziabad. I have seen many instances wherein people forgo offers from new IIMs to join IMT Ghaziabad.
The IIM brand has failed to convince students to join the new IIMs for a diploma. A cursory glance at the low placement figures last year at some of the relatively newer IIMs (Raipur, Rohtak, Ranchi, Kashipur, and Udaipur) when compared to their older counterparts, too, tells its own story.
Another important issue for management aspirants is that even if they are okay with the lack of infrastructure, full-time faculty members, and alumni, they cannot ignore the delayed start to the sessions at the new IIMs. While faculty members think that this time gap in starting operations can be bridged easily, students feel that they might lose out on their summer internships.
I have converts from IIM Nagpur and IIM Vizag. Confused which one to pick. Which one is better for Operations?
When considering which of the newer Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), also known as "baby IIMs", to attend, it can be difficult to determine which institute may be better suited for a particular field of study or specialization, as these institutions have only recently been established and have not yet had the opportunity to distinguish themselves in any specific area.

According to the latest placement report obtained in January 2022, IIM Nagpur has successfully completed the summer placements for the 2022 batch of MBA students. The report indicates that the highest stipend increased by 44%, and the average stipend increased by 12.5%. Prominent companies such as United Breweries, L&T Infotech, Dalmia Bharat, Doha Bank, YourStory, Nivia Sports, and Future Generali participated in the summer placements drive.
Similarly, IIM Vizag also released the final report of its 2021-23 summer internship placement drive. According to the report, the highest stipend stood at INR 3.5 Lakhs per month, and the average stipend stood at INR 57 K per month. Prominent recruiters that participated in the drive include Microsoft, KPMG, YES Bank, ICICI Bank, Bosch, D.E. Shaw, Cognizant, ThermoFisher, ICICI Lombard, Mahindra Logistics, Latent View Analytics, Dalmia Bharat, TVS Credit, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel, HPCL, HSL, and NSDC.
Therefore, reviewing the reports of the placement drives is one of the best ways to gain insight into the types of companies and industries that recruit from these institutions, which may help in determining which campus would be a good fit for a student's career aspirations.
Is it worth joining IIM Vizag leaving behind the offer from IIM Nagpur?
As a student of the institution, it is important to recognize that comparing institutes can be problematic, as each institution has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. However, when considering institutes within the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) system, it is worth noting that the IIM in Visakhapatnam (IIM Vizag) has a reputation for offering strong academic programming and decent placement opportunities.
This is something that sets it apart from some of the other IIMs and is something that students may want to take into consideration when deciding which institution to attend.
Which should I opt for out of IIM Nagpur, IIM Vizag and TAPMI?
IIMs have a brand name and are doing at par or even better than TAPMI, despite being new. So, you can go for either IIM Vizag or IIM Nagpur.

However, if you have to choose between IIM Nagpur and IIM Vizag, choose according to your preference of location. Both have almost the same median salary of approx 16.5 lakhs for final placements. IIM Nagpur has a permanent campus while IIM Vizag has a better pool of companies for placements.
Having a 3.5 year experience in EPC Project Management, should one join IIM Nagpur/Vizag or should wait for a year, and go for an Executive MBA?
Before dwelling on the details and explanations, let me give you a simple answer.
- You should go for a 2-year MBA program if you are open to switching domains in the future. One of my friends was in a similar situation with around 4 years of experience in EPC Project Management. After great anticipation, she decided to go for IIM. Visakhapatnam which is a relatively new IIM. But it happened to be one of the best decisions of her life. She realized her inclination toward Finance and ended up with a role in the financial planning department of her company. She says that the MBA program changed her perspective and broadened her career spectrum which would not have been possible if she had taken an Executive program.
- You can go for the Executive program if you want to upscale your career prospects in the same field. Or you want a certificate that can get you a better job at a better company. This is a viable option if you are not open to switching domains and want to stick with your current field.
Now that I have talked about both scenarios let’s clear some misconceptions about the new IIMs. Frankly, they are not yet anywhere near the older IIMs but that does not change the fact that they have been developing at a speeding rate and are bound to do more so in the future. Through various interactions with the alumni, I have inferred that they were glad they joined the new IIM which provided world-class facilities and a breath of fresh air.
What would you choose between IMT Ghaziabad and IIM Visakhapatnam if you are interested in marketing and have an experience of 2+ years?
If you are interested in marketing with 2+ years of work experience then, IMT Ghaziabad should be your choice. IMT Ghaziabad’s pedagogy has 6 terms, of which 3 terms focused on courses applicable to all students. Once the student enters Term IV after the internship they are offered specialization courses.The exposure to electives helps students gain knowledge and understanding of the marketing domain.
Placements in the marketing domain are the best at IMT Ghaziabad. I have provided a comparative view of the placement statistics of the previous year and this year which shows an increase of 13.4% to last year’s average CTC.

What's the overall experience of an MBA at IIM Visakhapatnam?
My brother recently passed out from IIM Visakhapatnam and was all praise for the institute. Some major praises I heard from him were
- The hostel is at a great location and his room was a beach-facing one
- Many events and festivities keep the rigor alive on campus
- Your everyday life is very dynamic and comprises activities like Sports, cultural fests, business events, and birthday celebrations.
- The guest lecture visits add to the overall exposure

Overall, the IIM Visakhapatnam is one of the fastest growing new IIMs and his MBA experience from there was pretty good.
I recently applied to IIM Visakhapatnam for a visiting faculty position. What should I expect next?
If you have applied for a visiting faculty position at IIM Visakhapatnam you should wait for an interview call from them. If you are qualified enough and talented then they will definitely approach you for a faculty position. IIMs have the pressure to maintain the IIM standards so they are always on the hunt for the best professors. So if you are confident of your worth, apply to other IIMs also. I am sure one of the many IIMs will identify your talent and offer you a suitable position.
I had scored 76.5/81.4/75 in 10th, 12th, and graduation respectively with zero work experience. I am a non-engineer. Is there any chance to get IIM Amritsar, Vizag, and Rohtak?
Based on your academic performance, you have the potential to be admitted to the top 30 colleges for MBA programs. It is recommended to focus on preparing for and achieving the best percentile possible in exams such as CAT and other relevant exams. It is unclear who has provided you with the options previously mentioned, but it is important to consider other options that may be more suitable for you.

How is IIM Visakhapatnam for an MBA in HR?
Just like the new IITs, this is another one of those so-called IIMs that simply has the IIM name displayed on its building. The credibility of these institutes is severely lacking when compared to both their own students (though I certainly hope not the faculty) and the outside world. And justifiably so. Building up one's credibility and esteem requires time and effort over the course of many years. The ancient IITs didn't become household names overnight; rather, it took its students and staff a couple of decades to make their mark on the world stage, which is why they are known today.
When I go to these types of institutes, I hear students bragging about how fantastic their own school is by mentioning some impressive placement packages that a select few students may have received or by claiming victory in some challenging competitions. I say that you should let the rest of the world judge your excellence. Why do you have to pound your own drum?
Go to XLRI or TISS if you are serious about getting an MBA in human resources. They are unrivaled in this particular industry.
