Calling the IIM Vishakhapatnam’s hostel the best is literally not an understatement. It’s the world-class amenities combined with the serene surroundings that make it seem like a resort-like experience. One of my friends was a PGP student at Vizag and stayed at a beach-facing hostel. The sunrise and sunset views from the balcony and terrace make it seem like you are in a hotel and make your hostel life really peaceful and more home-like. I wouldn’t suggest you take admission to any new IIM if you are not ready to commit yourself to hard work both in terms of academics and extracurriculars. The Baby IIMs require determination and dedication and if you lack any of these, it’s better to look for other options.
The opportunities offered by the new IIMs are way ahead and unique when compared to the older ones. You shouldn’t join a new IIM merry to enjoy the benefits from the IIM tag because that alone won’t suffice it. It's better to take a drop year and target an older IIM than go for a new one that is yet to make its mark in the industry.
The new IIMs are suitable for those who are ready to work and toil and take advantage of opportunities in building a new institute. Most students will end up with a job but it’s not a brainer that there will be a big compromise and namesake job compared to the colorful careers an IIM brand promises.

IIM Visakhapatnam had a lot of help from IIM Bangalore for placements in the first few batches. A pool summer placement process was organized at Bangalore for the first three batches. This resulted in students interning at companies like Cloudtail and Directi. If you are lucky, you will find colleagues from colleges like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, XLRI, and FMS.
The internship is a great opportunity for you and it will pose a strong point in job interviews. Moreover, my advice to you would be to network as much as possible. You will probably earn a 6 figure monthly stipend during the summer internship. Eventually, as students began to perform well and some of them at par with the top three IIMS (ABC), PPOs began loyally recruiting students from the college.
These job profiles are the same as those offered at IIM Bangalore. An example of this would be that of Bosch. It offers a Junior Manager’s program available only to premier campuses like IIM Bangalore, IIFT Delhi, etc. as seen on LinkedIn. It even has an international visit to Germany included.
Another major reason would be that this industry prefers students who have previously done summer internships. This PPO percentage was higher for the first two batches from IIM Visakhapatnam since most of the students were taught by IIM Bangalore professors.

Currently, the highest CTC stands at INR 27 LPA and a minimum at INR 10 LPA. Companies like Yes Bank, Amul, and Crompton Greaves regularly visit the institute for placements.
Food served at IIM Vishakhapatnam’s mess is generally decent and edible. One does not have to frequently resort to ordering food from outside. The recent supplier is a 4-star hotel in Visakhapatnam.
Such amazing mess facilities make it easy for the students to live a comfortable hostel life without missing homemade food much.
IIM Visakhapatnam is not better than IIM Nagpur yet it is at a level with it. There are many reasons why people choose it over Nagpur.
