Which one is better: IIFT Delhi, JBIMS or SP Jain (Marketing) if I was looking for good placements and brand and I have converted all three?

SA
Shaunak Acharya Posted On : February 20th, 2023
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi

To choose a college that is perfect for you, one needs to ponder various questions repeatedly. These questions will help you get a clear idea about what you want from MBA and which college will help you achieve that.

  • Which area do you want to specialize in?
  • Are you included towards functional level clarity (Operations, Finance, Marketing, Tech) or granular level clarity (FMCG marketing/Digital e-commerce marketing/Sales or Product Management/Project Management or General Management)

If the answer to it is yes, then analyze the reports of these institutes to find where each one of them stands. Looking at average CTC is not the right way and is in fact misleading.

Other things you should consider before choosing a B School are

  • The admission procedure and the level of difficulty of entrance exams if these colleges
  • The practicality and relevance of the curriculum as per the recent industrial trends
  • The profiles of your batchmates and their diversity The size and brand of the alumni base and the opportunities you will be availing through them
  • The importance of overall personality grooming

One thing you should keep in mind is that brands are just a stepping stone in your career journey and not the main factor. These institutes have been able to establish the brand name mainly because of where their alumni have reached now. So brands are helpful in the short run only.

How should I prepare for IBPS SO (marketing) interview?

PG
Pragati Ghosh Posted On : February 19th, 2021
MBA in Business Marketing & Financial Management, Acharya Nagarjuna University (2018)

To talk about the academic side, brush your knowledge that concerns marketing concepts, banking jargon and current affairs. Also, if the interviewer comes up with certain personal questions, make sure you answer them honestly.

I'd like to share my sister’s experience here with you. Her IBPS SO Marketing exam was conducted in Andhra Pradesh Apex College, Hyderabad. She reached the location on time. Make sure you do that too. Document verification takes place after that and after half an hour or so, her turn for the interview came. There will be other candidates along with you and they'd be allotted different serial numbers. You've to be a little patient in case your serial number comes up a little late.

The interview lasted for ten minutes. The panel consisted of 5 members, 4 male and 1, female.

The questions they asked included the following:

  • Since she has completed her education, what has she been doing since then? - She told them this was her first interview and they further enquired whether she was placed or not. They also inquired about the gap as they were curious about it. She mentioned that she wasn't doing anything constructive, instead, was teaching in a local school. This left a rather negative impact and gave them a good reason to shoot even more questions.
  • What does a Bank Balance Sheet include? (Answered)
  • Define a Cheque and the parties involved (Answered wrong out of confusion)
  • Name of the Union Commerce Minister (Didn't know)
  • Define Priority Sector Lending (Answered in a local language - Telugu)
  • Define Bancassurance (Answered, But along came a series of questions)
  • Define GST (Answered almost everything about GST except what it meant at a surface level. They were very patient)
  • Full form of IRDA (Didn't answer)
  • Define Marketing Research (Answered, but wasn't up to the mark)
  • Roles and responsibilities of marketing officers in the bank (Answered)
  • Define home loan. Explain how she would persuade customers for it (Answered)

And with this, thanks was greeted and with a smile, she was told to leave. She was clueless about the results considering her experience, a miracle can only save her.

How is life at IMT Ghaziabad and scopes after MBA in marketing?

SG
Saurabh Gupta Posted On : January 27th, 2023
Studied at Universal Business School

The general campus life at IMT Ghaziabad is pretty hectic for first-year students. Right after you join, the Personality Development Program is conducted by the seniors. After this, the committee selection process begins. College life is extremely rigorous and includes fest management, mess, seniors placements, and internships. You have to manage and prioritize all such activities altogether. You learn to manage your time, face tight deadlines, and maintain your emotional stability throughout.

Some other aspects of life at IMT Ghaziabad are

  • Placements: IMT Ghaziabad placements are known to be the best in the Marketing sector. While many think that only freshers or people with less experience can get Marketing roles, it’s not true. It completely depends on the company offering the role. IMT provides you with lots of opportunities in sales and a few roles in core marketing, media & advertising, and digital marketing. IMT Ghaziabad is the best to kickstart a career in Marketing as it offers the best opportunities and has a strong alumni network.
  • Fees: IMT Ghaziabad fee structure for PGDM, PGDM Marketing, PGDM Banking, and Financial Services and PGDM Finance is INR 19.38 lakhs.
  • Hostel: IMT Ghaziabad has two hostels, one inside the campus and the other CDL, 4 km by walking distance. You can choose to stay at either during the first year but in the second year, you have to stay at the on-campus hostel only. CDL has much more freedom and better amenities like Air Conditioned rooms.
  • Food: IMT Ghaziabad’s mess food is managed by the mess committee which is run by the students themselves. The quality of food is good but once in a while students get bored and ask for a change of the menu. The CDL students can come to the campus mess for the food.
  • Prospects: Today the corporate world requires more from MBA graduates rather than specialization in certain fields. IT and Services are doing fairly well and are expected to do so in the future without much change. Analytics is in great demand and will continue to be in demand for at least 5-7 years

The Indian market has been witnessing an increase in demand for jobs where MBA graduates have a great variety to choose from.

Here is the SPJIMR Interview Experience of a student for the Marketing stream:

Her interview was profile-based and included a writing assessment related to piracy and a psychometric test with 20 questions. During the interview, she was in a classroom with six candidates, two professors, and one alum. After giving a one-minute introduction, they were asked one-on-one questions based on their introductions and why they wanted to join SPJIMR. She talked about her current company (Cognizant), her extracurricular activities, and her hobbies, among other things.

Is it true that MBA marketing freshers are offered sales jobs? Even if they are from JBIMS or SIMSREE?

SP
Sanket Patil Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2005)

This is true for almost all the B Schools. Many B Schools offer sales jobs to MBA Marketing freshers even if they are from JBIMS or SIMSREE. There are some logical reasons behind this are as follows:

  • You need to know the basics to understand the higher level of knowledge
  • Eventually, you will be responsible for managing large teams. So with a sales job, you are familiarized with handling teams that do core sales.
  • The exposure connects you with various people in the hierarchy
  • Your ultimate role in life will be a salesperson as you will be seeking your idea to go Manager or a business idea to your CEO, so it’s better to enter early in the field and grasp the basics.

The requirement of experience depends solely on the company you are applying to. But I will personally suggest you be flexible and open to all profiles rather than targeting a single one.
