What is life like at IISc Bangalore? I'm curious about undergraduate life, specifically about things other than academics, like social life. Also, what is the male-to-female ratio like?

My friend is currently a student at IISc Bangalore and is in awe of the institute that has been her dream college forever. Being a research enthusiast, she always wanted to join IISc Bangalore and now that she has achieved her dream, she shared a few experiences that made her college life even better than expected

  • The campus spreads across 400 acres and has a wide variety of flora and fauna.
  • The campus has amazing facilities of them including beautiful guest houses, hostels, and the institute building itself. ISC has modern labs with the latest instruments.
  • Every department has its own well-stocked library with books and journals
  • You get to interact with the most intelligent people from around the country and also build healthy conversations with the professors.
  • The food served is great and hygienic
  • The sports facilities and the gymkhana ensures a break from academics and focus on physical health

Overall, the staff, the students, the professors, and the institute all give off positive vibes that motivate you towards self-productivity. This is the best part of IISc. So the hype that IISc Bangalore gets is totally worth it and well-deserved.

How is life in KJ Somaiya College of Engineering, especially in the mechanical branch?

RG
Rajesh Gupta Posted On : January 6th, 2023
Studied at Somaiya Vidyavihar

KJ Somaiya College of Engineering is simply amazing, with the best campus and faculty. Excellent football field, badminton court, table tennis, carrom, and so on. Simple to reach. The canteen is reasonably priced and serves delicious food. Every event over there will be enjoyable for you.

Because your branch is mechanical, the crowd may differ, but all of the students there come from good families. Because of the cutoff, the Mechanical crowd is generally smarter than other branches.

There are many things you can do with your studies, such as joining a team that builds something. Orion Racing creates race cars, Redshift Racing creates ATVs, Onyx creates aircraft, and Team Eta creates fuel-efficient vehicles. You can also create your own project if you don't want to join anything.

How is life at BITS Pilani- Goa Campus?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : June 27th, 2023

Life at BITS Pilani Goa campus is very disciplined unlike the general misconception that being located in Goa, no rules are followed and students are involved in drugs and stuff.

  • There is no ragging at all here in fact seniors guide you like your elder brothers.
  • Students are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages, drugs, or cigarettes inside the campus and strict actions are taken against them.
  • Students have to be inside the campus well before 10:30 PM and those who fail to follow this rule will be reprimanded.
  • Girls are expected to be inside their hostels by 12: 30. The girls-to-boys ratio is very low but their safety is given due importance.
  • BITS Pilani has an immensely competitive environment and you will be surrounded by geniuses who have cleared JEE Advanced.
  • The parity of the placement opportunities and the quality of education offered cannot be doubted.
  • Students with low BITSAT scores have the option for a dual degree wherein their engineering degree is decided on the basis of their first-year CGPA.

Here was a glimpse of the vibrant yet disciples life at BITS Pilani Goa campus.

What is it like being in FMS Delhi?

RG
Rohan Gupta Posted On : December 27th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2021)

Being in FMS Delhi is fun, tiring, exhausting, and thrilling all at once. The baggage of memories and emotions you will carry from here is huge. It will be a rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs.

  • You will feel extremely intimidated by the exceptionally talented crowd despite your work experience and 100 percentile in CAT.
  • The initial year is very exhausting as you have to work on your academics as well as presentations on complex subjects in Finance, strategy, capital markets, marketing, supply chain, HR & IT. If this is not enough you will also have to prepare for the summer placements alongside.
  • Your expectations will face a terrible downfall here as you won’t be able to be at par with the curriculum like you thought you would.
  • You will face tough competition while you are struggling with your mediocre academic performance. Your peers will be taking part in internships, National level case competitions, making amazing presentations, and getting scholarships while you are still struggling to adapt to the rigor.
  • Seeing others that are better and way ahead of you will rob you of your feeling of entitlement and humble you at once. You will stop taking things for granted and start making the most out of your 2 years.
  • You will receive help from faculty and seniors when you are in dire need of assistance. FMS faculty is very cooperative and friendly.

Lastly, you will have a lot of memories and nostalgia to carry with you throughout the rest of your life.

IIT Madras has a 4 meal per day program. There are both North Indian and South Indian menus.

North Indian menu:

  • Breakfast: Bread, omelet, cornflakes, coffee, milk, sometimes jalebi Or dosa
  • Lunch: Rice, chapatis, dal, vegetables, salad, curd at noon.
  • Evening snacks: Coffee and tea
  • Dinner: Same as lunch with additional lemonade or buttermilk

South Indian menu:

  • Breakfast: Idli-sambar, dosa, upma, pongal-vada, etc. Extras include bread-butter and jam, cornflakes, milk, and coffee.
  • Lunch:  Rice, sambar, rasam, curd, some vegetables, phulka, and some gravy. Buttermilk is also served sometimes.
  • Dinner: Diner is almost similar to the lunch menu

The food served at IIT Madras is of good taste, quality, and hygienic. There is no compromise in the quality although one might get bored of the same menu every day. Still, it is much better than the food served at other IITs and NITs.

How is college life in IIT kharagpur?

AC
Anumita Chatterjee Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK)

There are a number of things that distinguish IIT Kharagpur from other IITs. My answer entails such attributes only.

  • Movies at subsidized rates: There are only 2 cinemas in the whole of Kharagpur, the better one obviously being inside the campus. As a result, many district people come and the fee is INR 100/- semester irrespective of how many movies you watch. This crazy deal attracts many.
  • Fastest and unlimited DC++:  This is a software that allows sharing of files over LAN. This amazing software makes it possible for you to download a file faster than copying it from someone. A variety of things can be downloaded like books, question papers, software, games, movies, TV Series, etc. There are no download limits too unlike some other IITs.
  • Illumination: This is a unique phenomenon one can witness in IIT KGP during Diwali. Each of the 20 hostels participates in a competition wherein the students of that hostel have to portray a scene/message using Diyas. Rangoli was also made in this competition.
  • Bond with seniors: IIT KGP has a harmonious ambiance and seniors are extremely friendly and approachable. There is this trend wherein seniors write to their juniors about how they feel, and any advice on scrapbooks, chart sheets, etc.
  • Night routine: The students have crazy sleeping habits with some of them only sleeping for an hour or two at around 7 am only to wake up at 8:5O to rush to classes.
  • Mess Food. The food, especially North Indian food is decent and not like that served in IIT MG or IITM. The quality of the food has seen a steady improvement with a 4 meal plan per day. The mess serves Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, and Dinner.
  • Canteen: IIT KGP has 20 hostels (14 boys, 6 girls) and every hostel has its own canteen which runs from 3-4 AM every day. Some halls even serve their own specialty.
  • College Fests: A number of cultural and technical fests are held at IIT KGP. Spring Fest is the Cultural Fest of IIT Kharagpur which is the biggest festival in eastern India whereas Kshitij is the Technical Fest of IIT Kharagpur, Asia’s Largest Technological-Management Fest.
  • Eateries: Inside IIT KGP you can find Subway, CCD, Rooster, and Baskin Robbins offering food at affordable prices whereas outside you can find Dominos Pizza and a restaurant Flavors.

Life at IIT KGP is filled with fun and exciting activities.

How is student life at NMIMS Mumbai?

AJ
Aman Joshi Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA Tech. in Civil Engineering, SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2019)

When you join the course, keep in mind that it will have a significant impact on how you spend your time in Mumbai. If you opt for their flagship PGDM course, expect a rigorous academic schedule that demands a lot of attention, especially if you aim for good internships or placements. Luckily, the location is perfect for any kind of exposure you wish to gain during your stay.

While the initial traveling may be a bit of a hassle, it's important to get used to the local train transport as soon as possible because it will become your life and soul. The city of Mumbai provides you with enough opportunities to go out and explore, which you will need to do from time to time. Keep in mind that the cost of living and traveling can be a bit high, so make sure to cross all your Ts and dot all your Is before you move to the city.

You should remember that space and silence are a luxury in Mumbai, and not everyone can afford them. However, it's going to be an incredible experience overall. Once you get used to the fast-paced life of Mumbai, you will have an awesome time in the city.
