SA
Snehal Arora Posted On : July 31st, 2021
Studied at Lovely Professional University (2019)

When it's about the best, it depends on the parameters of comparison. The University of HRD had recently come up with the measures to rank any educational institute or university.

  • To find out the best, cater these parameters and calculate the score for evaluation if the University is best or not. The parameters are available on the website of the Ministry of HRD.
  • You could check the cut-off of previous years or the last 2-3 years and compare it with the same course offered in any other Institute.
  • Another way is to talk with any alumni of the Institute or a student of final year to get a good understanding of the Institute.
  • Research about main features such as academics, faculty, facilities, placements, infrastructure, extra-curricular, sports, guest lectures, seminars, practical knowledge, exposure, and opportunities, etc.

How do I select electives at BITS Pilani?

PS
Prateek Sharma Posted On : August 5th, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

In the basics, you have three types of electives they are,

  1. Humanities (famous courses like PAVA, Gita, and Globalization)
  2. Discipline (like Data mining and machine learning for CS)
  3. Open Electives (This can include electives offered as Discipline, Humanities, or Management.)

Key points to be noted while selecting the electives

  • Grades – Some electives, like humanities, with higher median GPA will help you increase your CGPA
  • Interest – Basically, you need to give importance to your interests. If you choose humanities out of interest, then you can expect a good score
  • Jargon – If you are not interested in continuing with your selected elective option, then you have the option to withdraw, which won’t affect your CGPA. You also have the choice to substitute or add on based on your preference

What was your first classroom experience at IISC Bangalore like?

SB
Saikat Banerjee Posted On : July 17th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

We got to sit in our classroom even before our first lecture day. During our counseling, we had an interaction with our seniors in the classroom itself.

On our second day at IISc Bangalore, we had a small discussion with the UG Deans, and then with the lab instructors.

On the first teaching day, close to 100 students were present in the Main Lecture Hall. It can occupy around 200 students and is air-conditioned. Our teacher made each of us introduce ourselves. She started the lecture with basic concepts.

The thought of studying with the brightest minds in India delighted me and my first day of attending classes at IISc Bangalore went well.

What is it like to be a PG in the radiology department of AIIMS Delhi?

AG
Aditya Ghose Posted On : June 3rd, 2023
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

In the initial days, it will take time to adjust to your specialty as you go from UG to PG. The drastic change in the field might seem challenging and it will take time for you to adapt yourself to the field. Radiodiagnosis is a field in which you had zero exposure at the UG level.

  • AIIMS Delhi Radiology Department has a great academic environment providing excellent exposure to its students.
  • Both diagnostics and interventional fields of the department are well established with a highly qualified faculty base.
  • The course gives you enough time to involve in extracurricular activities
  • PG students receive a monthly stipend of around 90K.
  • The department is laid-back and calm with many opportunities to relax and enjoy life.
  • The faculty is highly cooperative and the seniors are always ready to assist you.

Overall, the life of a PG student in the Radiology Department of AIIMS Delhi is very relaxing and the only flaw is the lack of hands-on experience with the patients.

How good is DOMS IIT Madras as compared to new IIMs?

DN
Debarati Nag Posted On : July 26th, 2021
Studied at Commits Bangalore (2019)

As far as I got to know from my friend studying there, DOMS IIT Madras is a good institute. Also, DOMS IIT Madras is certainly better than the new IIMs. There are some reasons behind it, which I am going to share with you.

He shared one experience about an IIM Bangalore guy who was given a project to collate existing data from all the possible data streams in the function and generate a report out of it. But he was too lazy to work upon it and was not given any offer.

And after this one case, IBM finance never went to IIM Bangalore for internships ever since.

My personal experience is that IIT Madras is in fact comparable to IIM Indore and Kochi if not better; surely much better than new IIMs.

Who is your favorite faculty at IIIT Hyderabad?

SG
Shubham Gaur Posted On : March 19th, 2021
CS undergrad, IIIT Hyderabad

Although IIIT Hyderabad has many excellent professors. But there is one professor, who is a pure gem. He can actually change the way you look at and solve Mathematics. He is none other than Dr. Kannan Srinathan. His ever-smiling face and his ability to simplify even the most complicated concepts in a much simpler way will surely make you fall in love with Discrete Mathematics, the course he mastered in.

Yegnanarayana is also quite popular among students. He teaches Speech Signal Processing and Artificial Neural Networks. He prepares for his lectures for 2 hours, although he has been teaching for 40 years.

Why is VTU called the worst university?

NL
Neha Lal, Posted On : November 9th, 2021
studied at Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is not considered the worst university but surely has many flaws. These include the following:

  • The syllabus is more than a decade old and the rate at which technology and science are growing, VTU is failing to catch up.
  • The evaluation process is very poor. There is a very high chance that your marks will increase every time you apply for revaluation.
  • VTU is one of the largest universities in India with 212 colleges affiliated with it. Most of the colleges have below-average laboratories, campus facilities, research centers, and poor placements.
  • Students graduating from these institutes score less marks and thus lose placement opportunities.
  • VTU’s standard of faculty is really low.

One of the things that bother aspirants is the reservation system. If you are an SC/ST belonging to the state of Karnataka then you have no problem in getting a good college with little effort through CET. If you are a general candidate then everything depends on your work.

Is a 4-year tri city BBA course of SPJ better than a 5-year IPM at IIM Indore?

CM
Charu Malik Posted On : August 20th, 2021
Studied at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2021)

IPM does not offer a BBA degree but you will receive a BA degree for your undergrad coursework (Foundations in Management). The subjects taught at the undergraduate level are vastly different from those taught in any other BBA program. Any decision based on an assumption about the IPM curriculum can land you in big trouble.

Returning to the question, I'm not familiar with the specifics of the four-year Tri-City programme, but I'm sure it entails a lot of learning from an institute like SPJ.

  • Having said that, IPM and the aforementioned course can be compared on the same scale.
  • Two degrees from IIM Indore (one of which is the regular MBA that other PGP participants are entitled to) is an incredible value that cannot be matched by any other BBA programme in the country.
  • Other benefits include the environment and opportunities that come with being a student at an IIM.

Comparisons can be made when other IIMs launch courses similar to IPM, which does not appear to be happening anytime soon. Until then, IPM would be a clear winner in terms of undergrad management education.

Is it good to take PG in NICMAR?

SR
Sheeja Roy Posted On : October 25th, 2021
studied at National Institute of Construction Management and Research, Pune

I have a few friends who graduated from NICMAR. Their experience with the institute has not been that good. Here are some of the things that they complain about.

  • NICMAR has increased the student intake following which the placement opportunities have become fewer in number. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered to the students is 6 LPA.
  • The selection process for admission is too easy. Almost anyone can get through the interview process.
  • The placement process is not effective. The placement committee is composed of students, who often act biased.

So, consider all these factors before you decide to pursue your PG from NICMAR.
