Should I go to LPU (Lovely Professional University) or Manipal University Jaipur for a B.Tech (IT)?

A
Admin Posted On : May 4th, 2024

As a former student of B.Tech IT at LPU, I can only provide information about my own college. Here are a few benefits of joining LPU for your B.Tech IT-

  1. Scholarships - LPU offers scholarships to those who perform well in 12th grade or various entrance exams. These scholarships continue for the entire B.Tech course. This brings down the course fee for meritorious students by a great extent.
  2. Placements- The university performs quite well in IT placements. Companies like HTC and Cognizant visit the campus for mass recruitments, and offer decent salary packages to CSE and IT graduates. Other companies recruit a lesser number of students, but they offer handsome salary packages. For a hardworking IT student, LPU offers good placement opportunities.
  3. Faculty- The IT faculty is decent, and some of the teachers are very good.
  4. Exposure- LPU is home to students from various parts of the country, and thus, it offers excellent exposure. Each student gets a platform at LPU to enhance their skills and learn new things.

These are some of the many reasons I chose LPU for my B.Tech IT.

B.Tech Computer Science, National Institutes of Technology (2022)

One of my friends studied at Heritage Institute of Technology. Here are some things I got to know from him, which might help you sort your priorities in the 1st year of your college.

  • You should be really good at learning programming languages, C, C++, etc.
  • Refresh your +2 physics and chemistry fundamentals and conceptual knowledge.
  • Try to develop your communication skills as much as possible.
  • Most importantly, pay attention to your seniors, especially during the first month of your college days.
  • And for your advantage, you may join different technical or cultural clubs, which will help you to gain credit points and also act as an extracurricular activity.

Therefore, keep these points in mind before delving into different things. Enjoy your college life, but also side by side prepare to improve yourself both academically and personally.

What are your thoughts on food processing engineering at NIT Rourkela?

PJ
Prateek Jha Posted On : August 14th, 2023
NIT Rourkela (2016)

NIT Rourkela's newly launched branch Food Processing has a wide scope for development and research and its worth cannot simply be judged through its placements. It caters to the ones interested in the production and processing of food and maintaining its quality.

The branch covers all arenas of food marketing from developing food and machines to keeping the food safe. It comprises concepts from various other branches too like mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and Food Science and Engineering.

As there is growth and development in India with respect to Food and Beverage Processing, there has opened up a gate for great research and job opportunities, as well, in the near future or I would say it has already started.

I asked a friend about the placement scenario of the branch and he told me that around 80-85% of students are placed. The highest salary package offered is 17 LPA. Most of the students receive internship opportunities while some prefer going to top foreign universities to pursue higher studies or research.

Some of the core companies visiting the campus for placement are Milk Mantra, IDMC, Tetra Pak, etc. Some of the non-core companies visiting the campus for placement are ZS Associates, TCS, EXL Services, Tredence, Affine Analytics, etc.

Other programs that students of this branch end up going to include Management programs in IIM-A, XIMB, NIBM, BITS Pilani, and direct Ph.D. in foreign universities. Some even go for M.Tech Program in NIFTEM.

So, the B.Tech program in Food Process Engineering is a great choice for interested students considering its increasing demand and scope.

VG
Viswajeet Ghose Posted On : April 21st, 2021
IIT BHU (2018)

As of now, there are many reputed colleges and institutes in India offering B.Sc./B.Tech Biotechnology. Here is a list of some of the most reputed colleges for Biotech in India.

Amity University - Amity Institute of Biotechnology

VIT University

SRM University

Lovely Professional University

Maharshi Dayanand University

Thapar University

Banasthali University

Rajasthan Technical University

Glocal School of Life and Allied Health Sciences

Apart from these institutes, Chandigarh University is also a pretty good option. I heard good things about the course from some of my friends who are pursuing it currently.

Here are some of the reasons why Chandigarh university is a worthy choice for pursuing a degree in Biotechnology.

  • Specializations offered for the course meet the industry requirement, so you will have better employability.
  • You will have a vertical-based subject choice in three fields, i.e. Industrial Biotechnology, Medical and Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering.
  • There are regular industry sessions, workshops, visits, projects, monitoring, and career guidance sessions.
  • There are options of international semester exchange, semester abroad, and frequent interaction with international experts.
  • The institute also offers good placement opportunities to the students. Students of Biotechnology usually get a salary package of 6-24 LPA.
  • The institute also offers many scholarships too based on merit and different factors.

Hope the above information helps you in choosing an institute.

Should I take NIT Trichy ECE or IIIT Hyderabad ECE?

SG
Sachin Gupta Posted On : July 19th, 2023

One of my close friends is pursuing EXE from IIIT Hyderabad and was all praise for the institute. She had come with zero expectations and the institute as well as the branch impressed her.

  • ECE is a whole different story from CSE wherein you need fundamental knowledge about concepts and coding skills alone are not enough.
  • The faculty pool comprises highly qualified professors who are very passionate about research and adopting modern pedagogy.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has the best lab facilities and modern instruments. Although there is no mechanical department, IIIT is well known for its strong focus on Robotics.
  • IIIT Hyderabad placements are excellent and this year, the highest salary increased by 32% and was recorded at INR 74 LPA. B.Tech CSE average salary stood at INR 32 LPA and major recruiters included Bloomberg, Code Nation, Deloitte, Facebook, Google, HSBC, Indeed, etc

NIT Trichy has an advantage of a bigger campus and more experienced faculty.  So, NIT Trichy is a good choice if you want a great campus life along with studies but if you want to focus on academics only then IIIT Hyderabad is the place for you.

Which among IIIT jabalpur CSE, NIT Jamshedpur ECE, Kurukshetra ECE, NIT Raipur CSE, NIT Hamirpur ECE, NIT Jalandhar CSE colleges is best ?

AB

lives in New Delhi

The choice of the branch is more important than choosing the institute because it determines and shapes your career. If you are interested in working in a PSU or have an interest in Electronics, choose ECE but if you have no such inclinations choose CS, the most diverse field. There are two main differences between IIITs and NITs

  • IIITs are relatively new and may not have a very extensive alumni network while NITs are aged old and have an elaborate network.
  • NITs provide diverse specialization in various fields while IIITs only focus on Computer Science education.

Based on the placement scenario and the academics, here is the preference order I would suggest you follow while making your choice

NIT Jalandhar CSE>IIIT Jabalpur CSE>NIT Raipur CSE>NIT Kurukshetra ECE>NIT Hamirpur ECE> NIT Jamshedpur ECE

It's important to note that this preference order is not based on any official data and is based on my own opinion only.

Is it better to take CSE in NIT Trichy or in new IITs like IIT Hyderabad, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore, etc?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : June 17th, 2023

If you look beyond the IIT tag lens, you will realize NIT Trichy is actually a great institute with excellent opportunities. The institute does well in providing both placement and higher education opportunities. Some other things that make it a good choice are

  • Fests like Pragyan and Festember held at a huge scale
  • An Excellent alumni connect
  • A talented student body
  • Octa the computer lab
  • Sports facilities
  • A good brand name

NIT Trichy might not have the IIT tag but it certainly has something that even the new IITs do not, a well organized and student-friendly management!

How is the EEE branch at the UIET Chandigarh?

PK
Pranav Kumar Posted On : May 24th, 2021
BE CSE, UIET Chandigarh (2018)

A good friend of mine has pursued EEE in UIET from Chandigarh. I reached out to him to catch up with some details and the latest facts.

If you are wanting to go for IT/CSE- UIET, Chandigarh is a great choice. But if you want to pursue EEE at UIET, then it is not a good choice. If we talk about the placement scenario over there, barely one or two core companies show up for that. A bunch of candidates ends up getting placed in the IT sector- which isn't worth it.

Here are the recent placement statistics for the EEE branch at UIET.

Average CTC

6.5 LPA

Highest CTC

28 LPA

Opting for any other engineering college would be a better choice if you want to go for EEE. But then, if you have decided to strictly adhere to UIET, perhaps check out other branches like Chemical Engineering, CSE as they come along with a fine set of faculty and better placement stats.

Which is better: Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay or Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 18th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

It would be suggested to pursue Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay rather than Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee.

When it comes to studying physics at IITB, there are some key differences between JEE physics and college-level physics. Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • In JEE physics, you study formula derivations after brief explanations of concepts and practice a lot of problems in that topic. College-level physics courses are typically more rigorous in theoretical and mathematical content, and problems are solved to help you understand the concepts more deeply.
  • While EE does not have any pure physics courses after the first year, it focuses on making you an electrical engineer. Core courses include analog and digital electronics, signals and systems, network theory, electronic devices, microprocessors, power electronics, and some relevant math courses.
  • EP, on the other hand, has core courses like quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, statistics, relativity, classical mechanics, waves and optics, nuclear physics, etc. There are also important math courses up to your second year.
  • EP trains you in core physics concepts and prepares you for experimental physics and electronics, giving you many options for your career path. You can work in theoretical or experimental physics, electronics, statistics and stochastics, CS-related research, or pursue higher studies in physics.
  • When choosing between IITB and IIT Roorkee, consider factors like the quality of professors, campus culture, and location. IITB has excellent professors, a beautiful campus, and great cultural and sports scenes, and is close to TIFR, which provides opportunities for collaboration.
  • When it comes to placements, most EP students go for higher studies because they are passionate about physics. For EE, core and non-core jobs are similar to those for other courses in terms of job security and salary packages.

Finally, the "brand" of IITs, especially IIT Bombay, provides a sense of job security that can be reassuring for graduates.
