I currently have a salary of 25L as a product manager. Is it worth it doing an MBA further at ISB, Hyderabad or in US universities? I want to do entrepreneurship, and a MBA for networking

Since your main goal is to grow a stronger network, considering US universities is of no use. However, if you are okay with developing international networks US universities are a viable option.

Comparing ISB Hyderabad with a US university is a lengthy discussion. Your choice should depend on whether you are planning to settle abroad or settle within India. If your ultimate goal is settling abroad, US universities should be your only option.

If we compare the pay structure, the average package offered at ISB Hyderabad is nearly the same as your current salary whereas US universities offer 7 times better salaries.

Both options require a lot of effort from the initial stage. To get into either, you need a spectacular profile and an impactful application strategy.

Can I do a second MBA from ISB after around 2 years of work experience and my first MBA from a Tier II institute?

There is literally nothing that is stopping you from doing a double MBA. Many students are not satisfied with the brand value or outcome of their first MBA degree and might opt for a double MBA from a better B School with clearer goals.

But if you are doing so, make sure you have a credible story up your sleeve to explain why you need a second MBA.

  • They might ask what you learned from your former MBA
  • Why you need a second MBA
  • Are you doing the second MBA merely for the ISB tag

Prepare such questions well and ponder on the real reason why you are found for another MBA. Rather than a hasty decision, you can also wait for a few years and see if a second MBA is really necessary.

Particulars

Fee (Rs)

Admission Fee

2.50 Lakhs

Tuition Fee

24.54 Lakhs

The above is not inclusive of Electricity charges, Laundry charges, and eating/ recreation expenses. All of this includes accommodation, food, and all course-related material. Travel costs from your home location to both the ISB Campuses and International location are not included.

Some of the other expenses are as follows:

  1. Security deposit: A refundable security deposit of INR 20,000 has to be paid. These are refunded after deduction of any dues payable to the school.
  2. Alumni Fund: Alumni membership fee of INR 25,000 is to be paid. It’s paid at the beginning of the program.
  3. Recreation Centre: A deposit of INR 15,000 has to be paid for the lifetime use of the Recreation Centre. This is applicable for participants of all degree equivalent programs at ISB.
  4. Added benefits: A senior member from the students’ family can attend a 3-day executive education program “Family Business: Managing Growth and Transformation (MGT)” free of cost. This is valid only for the MGT program offered in the year 2021-22.

The tuition fee is payable in 4 equal installments over 12 months. These expenses may change over the course of the degree because of the program fee being revised by the ISB. Also, keep in mind that you might need to purchase laptops and other electronic aids recommended by the program office.

What is the current procedure for selection in ISB (Hyderabad or Mohali) in EEO (early entry option)?

RR
Rakshit Ranjan Posted On : January 30th, 2023
PGP from Indian School of Business (2021)

ISB Hyderabad's selection criteria lay great emphasis on Work Experience. The candidates are preferred and differentiated based on this aspect a lot here. To overcome this problem, ISB Hyderabad has come up with an Early Entry Option wherein candidates with little or no work experience can freely be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance, leadership potential, and personality attributes. Some highlights of the selection process of an Early Entry candidate are

  • The early entry applicants will have to in turn showcase their skills and capability by putting forward their goals, their prior achievements, and experiences, and why they are pursuing an MBA. An early-entry applicant has no work experience so his reason for MBA should be backed by strong goals.
  • Because your academic performance will be the major criterion of evaluating your profile, each and every aspect of the same will be checked thoroughly. Any flaws can pose a problem to your admission.
  • For an Early Entry applicant, his interview round is the most crucial as his personal attributes need to be evaluated which can be done through the interview only.

The best thing an Early Entry applicant can do to increase his/her chances of admission is to get involved in extracurricular activities or get additional certificates and prepare best for the interview

I have got a CGPA of 6.5 in my first semester of BTech in IIIT-Hyderabad. Can I improve it till 8.5 for getting an admission offer in a prestigious management institute in IIMs or ISB?

KP
Karthikeyan Palanisamy Posted On : January 30th, 2023
MBA Finance and Strategy, Indian School of Business (2017)

People usually have two opinions regarding MBA admissions. First, the admissions have little to do with numbers, second, CGPA and numbers are extremely crucial. My answer is here to support the second opinion and she’s light on the importance of CGPA.

Don’t decide on your next degree hastily before even completing the first one. You may want to explore more interests before deciding what you want to finally choose. Most people in IIT commit the grave mistake of not focusing on their Academics because they think that the ECE or IT sector is not their cup of tea. They forget that they are among the best computer science minds right now and do not make the best use of this opportunity. Identifying the opportunities offered by the institute is a crucial step before deciding on your future career. Even if after enough reflection you realize that the IT sector is not for you, you may explore other options.

Recently many alumni of IIIT Hyderabad have joined as graduates of IIMs after gaining work experience. But almost every alumnus I have looked up had an excellent CGPA, nothing less than 8.5.

So CGPA is not the only factor but is one of the most important factors during admissions at IIMs. One can get into an IIM even with an average CGPA but having a good CGPA will increase the plethora of opportunities definitely.

Which is best -MBA in finance from ISB Hyderabad or top IIMS A/B/C?

PS
Prakriti Sharma Posted On : January 30th, 2023
PGP from Indian School of Business (Graduated 2019)

ISB Hyderabad is known for its lack of specialization in Finance. It’s a common understanding now that even if one is preferring ISB Hyderabad for admission, they know that they should go for anything but Finance. Studying some aspects will give you a deeper insight as to why MBA in Finance from ISB Hyderabad is not recommended.

Faculty: Although the visiting faculty is quite decent, it’s the domestic faculty that has ruined the culture at ISB. They are arrogant, pathetic, and extremely incapable. They insult the students regularly and disturb student-teacher relations.

Placements: The roles offered in Finance were below average like Operations, Sales, and BD roles. Such roles were offered in abundance by the banks or start-ups. However, the superior roles like IB/PE/VC/M&A/FP&A/Equity Research/Credit Rating/Asset Management/TAS were offered scarcely. For instance

  • only 10 FP and A roles were allotted that too only to CAs
  • Only one Investment banking role was offered by Barclays
  • Only 5 PE/bc roles were offered and there was a strong preference for a prior IB/PE/VC experience and IIT undergraduate background.
  • One M and A role was offered only
  • 4 Asset Management and zero Equity Research and Credit Rating roles were offered.

So the best roles were offered limitedly while the batch size stood at 900. Most students ended up with unsatisfactory placements. Now you can decide whether or not to join if you are confident to face the placement scenario.

Does age (30 and above) matter for MBA from ISB Hyderabad and latter on the placements?

SZ
Saher Zehra Posted On : March 1st, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad, Telangana, India (2016–present)

If you are above the age of 30 and applying for a job or a graduate program, it is expected that you have a certain level of experience. To be successful in the interview process, it is important to demonstrate maturity and communicate effectively, highlighting the unique value that your experience brings to the table. Recruiters often look for candidates with experience and may be more likely to overlook younger applicants with less experience.

In the case of ISB, many companies that recruit on campus are looking for candidates with 5+ years of work experience. Therefore, if you are a 24-year-old with 2 years of work experience, you may face more competition for certain positions. It is important to research the types of companies and positions that you are interested in and to consider whether your experience aligns with the needs of those companies. This is known as "school research" and it is important to do it before applying.

In summary, when applying for a job or graduate program, it is important to have a clear understanding of the expectations of recruiters and the types of positions you are interested in. By doing research and understanding the needs of the companies and positions you are applying for, you can tailor your application and interview to align with those needs and increase your chances of success. Think logically and don't have expectations without a clear trail of thoughts.

Is it worth spending 30k to join GMAT coaching at Crack ISB Hyderabad?

YB
Yash Bhati Posted On : January 30th, 2023
ISB YLP '17 Admit

Yes, it certainly is worth paying a hefty fee of 30k for GMAT coaching at Crack ISB Hyderabad. The quality of trainers and the certainty of admission is what draw the candidates here. While there are many institutes that specialize in training for the CAT, very few institutes offer training for GMAT.

Crack ISB Hyderabad has many features that have made it so popular and demanding among GMAT aspirants

  • The peer group is a productive and effective group discussion is possible
  • The institute gives the admission essay reviews free of cost while most institutes charge around 20-25k
  • The quality of editing is much better at this Institute mainly because the faculty comprises alumni of top B Schools

So it’s better to pay more for quality education than pay less or the same for substandard education. But remember an Institute can just prepare you for your entrance exam. It’s upon you to put in maximum effort and achieve your goals.
