What should I do to get into IIM Bangalore?

RS
Rani Sharma Posted On : December 12th, 2022
Deputy Manager at State Bank of India (SBI) (2019–present)

To grant admission, IIMs administer the Common Admission Test, also known as the CAT.

While the CAT score is the primary criterion, IIMs also use interviews, group discussions, and written ability tests to evaluate candidates after the CAT. Aside from that, they consider the candidate's past academic record as well as work experience.

So, to gain admission to IIM Bangalore, the procedure would be as follows:

  • Begin preparing for the CAT.

  • Fill out the CAT application form in the provided window.

  • Attend the CAT and achieve a high percentile. (Something like 99.5 or higher)

  • If you are selected, you must attend their GDPI round and perform well.

If everything goes well, you will receive an admission call from IIM B.

Is 90 in 12th class (CBSE, PCM) considered good by IIM-Bangalore?

TC
Tuli Chakraborty Posted On : July 30th, 2021
Studied at IIT Kharagpur (2019)

As one of my friends studied at IIM Bangalore, I can say that it certainly does give special percentage weightage to how much you have scored in your 10th, 12th, and graduation.

IIM Bangalore has always been clear about the percentage. But then, you should also realize that this weightage criteria changes with each passing year. It's not constant nor any standard is set.

If you have a score of 90+ in your 10th and 12th standard along with an 8+ GPA in graduation, you can still anticipate a call. However, you would only be eligible once you clear your CAT examination and you also show work experience as well. IIM B always gives preference to candidates with work experience, unlike the other IIMs.

How much work experience is required to get an interview call from IIM Bangalore?

SA
Smriti Agarwal Posted On : May 9th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

As per the admission trends of IIM Bangalore, almost every student stands a chance of getting interview calls. Here is the work-experience profile of PGPBA 2021 in batch.

Work Experience in months  Number of students
No experience  18
<13 months of experience  8
13-24 months of experience  9
25-36 months of experience  7
37-48 months of experience  2
Above 48 months of experience  1

So, the above statistics back up the fact that every aspirant has chances of getting interview calls. IIM Bangalore puts more emphasis on the quality of work experience in relevant sectors, CAT percentile, and past academic performance, rather than years of experience.

No, any outsider cannot enter the campus of IIM Bangalore easily. There are certain restrictions that need to be followed inside the campus by everyone. The points below give a brief overview of the rules and regulations that are strictly followed inside the campus of IIM Bangalore.

  • A student, a professor, or an alumnus can enter and leave the campus of IIM Bangalore freely. The only way an outsider can enter the campus is as an invited guest by some professor or student.
  • During cultural events, fests, and seminars, the security at IIM Bangalore is relaxed compared to normal days. But, outsiders need at least valid proof of participation even during those days.
  • There are students who get involved in activities like climbing the barbed fence to enter the campus, and eventually get punished if caught.
  • Although the campus of IIM Bangalore is quite strict for outsiders, it should not affect the motivation of the student to be a part of the institute someday. Every student, who wants to seek motivation to visit the institute, should keep the above aspects in mind while making their visit.

These are some of the key highlights about the strictness of security inside the campus of IIM Bangalore, which is quite relaxed for students but difficult for strangers to pay a visit to.

How are the three reference letters needed for IIM Bangalore supposed to be submitted?

DR
Dinesh Rana Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Although the question should be answered by the institute's helpdesk, here are some tips that might be helpful for you. My friend has just completed his MBA from IIM Bangalore and here are some of the experienced recalled along with university FAQ answers:

  • Reference letters tend to be quite confidential so you can’t submit them casually.
  • All such reference letters must be submitted in paper (hardcopy), sealed in an envelope, and signed (on the closed envelope) by the person who is actually giving the reference.
  • Please do not attempt to send them through any online modes like mail, Whatsapp, etc.
  • On the day of the interview take the three envelopes along with you.
  • The reference letters will most likely be collected as soon as you arrive at the interview venue. Then, the interviewers will like to have a look at them before the interview.

These are some simple steps to be followed while handling and submitting the reference letters at IIM Bangalore. If any confusion persists, you must not hesitate to contact the institute’s administration.

Is it advisable to to go for PGPEM course of IIM Bangalore?

RJ
Rakshit Jain Posted On : July 31st, 2021
PGPEM from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2018)

Every stream of MBA has its own set of learning and outcomes. It is always your choice on how you will learn from the course and make the best use of it in your career.

The points below give a brief overview of the Postgraduate program in enterprise management, offered by IIM Bangalore.

  • PGPEM is similar to the PGP and is equally tough in the curriculum. The course requirement is also quite similar to the PGP.
  • PGPEM will act as a career enhancer for you. Considering the chances of a proper career change after the course, there is a subjective answer for the same. If you are willing to take a risk can surely have a change for good.
  • If you don’t want to take the risk of a change, there are fewer chances of success, mostly due to the lack of campus placement.
  • The course structure is the reason for a lack of campus placement. It is because the students are already experienced and are not at all looking for a career switch. They are already settled in properly rewarding jobs.
  • In the batch of PGPEM at IIM Bangalore, at least 20% of students end up doing totally different things from what they started their career in. For the rest, they have a good career progression in their existing jobs.

Therefore, you should choose the course correctly, having all classified information about the course and its outcomes. It is very much essential because the right attitude can ensure a sure path to success in the industry.

Here are a few things that you can do to prepare yourself before joining IIM Bangalore.

  • Make a proper CV. It will be the most important document until you get your MBA.
  • You can prepare for the summer placements by going through HR questions. Just 2-3 weeks into your MBA, the summer placements will start.
  • Connect with your seniors through social media platforms. Talking to them will give you a good idea of what to expect.
  • Read as much as you can. Stay updated with the current happenings in the industry.

Also, try to spend some time with your family and friends, once you join IIM Bangalore, you won’t have much time for anything except academics.

What was the waitlist movement at IIM Bangalore last year?

NG
Nabamita Ghosh Posted On : July 30th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

Being in the waiting is enough to add on a lot of stress in the student's mind who has applied for the institute. The reason I am responding to your query is that it needs to be addressed among the masses.

  • A friend of mine was on this waitlist. Throughout the entire time, he was always under constant pressure.
  • Generally, this waitlist frenzy is exclusive to the students that belong to the General category and their result falls somewhere around 60-70.
  • There are also a good number of students who have switched to Calcutta as they believed that Finance was ultimately their calling.
  • This is precisely why people who are in the waitlist choose to settle in Bangalore.
  • The 2018-2020 batch was quite an exception in this matter.
  • Because of a rumored article, the waitlist for the batch 2018-2020 of IIM Bangalore went up to 16 for the General category students. Thus revealing certain dark sides of IIM Calcutta.

The waitlist for this year can be expected to reach 60 but no one can put an authenticity stamp on it as this has various layers to it. My personal advice to people who are on the waitlist is to prepare a backup option as well so that they do not have to be disappointed.
