How good is CUSAT?

DB
Dishari Banerjee Posted On : May 17th, 2021
PGP from Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur (2019)

CUSAT is a decent institute, which is quite famous across the country. My sister has studied there and the following are some major key highlights of CUSAT as per her experience:

  • There is a 50:50 gender ratio in CUSAT. This makes it evident that CUSAT is popular in both North and South India, and not just in Kerala.
  • It is a good institute and has two campuses. The first campus is in Cochin, known as SOE, and the other in Alleppey, known as CUCEK.
  • The placements in both the campus of CUSAT are almost the same. There are some misconceptions in the minds of people that the campus in Alleppey is somewhat inferior in placement and other facilities. But, the truth is that students from both campuses get more or less equal opportunities.

  • There are some concerns about placement among the freshers in CUSAT. For getting a decent job, students need to study during their entire course, and clear all backlogs, if any, before their placement.
  • For students from North India, it is a little difficult to stay in Kerala. But, there are dedicated North Indian hostels for such students where they get the atmosphere and food they want.

Therefore, CUSAT is a decent option for students in engineering and computer application.

Will companies like Google come to CUSAT?

SJ
Salim Javed Posted On : July 19th, 2021
B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering & CAT, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2018)

No, companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, etc don’t recruit students from any branch of engineering in CUSAT.

Companies like Google recruit students from premier institutes like IITs, NITs, DTU, NSIT, etc only. For institutes like CUSAT, such high-profile job offers cannot be expected on campus.

  • In CUSAT, some of the companies that recruit students every year are Infosys, TCS, Mu Sigma, etc.
  • The type of offers in placement and the packages offered by companies mostly depend on the branch of engineering in CUSAT. Mostly, circuital branches like CSE, IT, and ECE receive the best offers from companies during their in-campus placement.

These are some of the key highlights regarding the placement of students in CUSAT, which is decent, but not as good as IITs and NITs.

Does the CUSAT take admission from the community rank?

RM
Ranpariya Keyur Manubhai Posted On : February 23rd, 2024

Admissions at CUSAT are based on the candidates CAT ranks. A certain number of seats are reserved for students from different communities like KSC, KST, etc. There is a state merit list specifically in place for Keralite students. This is because a certain number of seats are exclusively reserved for locals. The community based reservations are a part of this state merit list. It is not a part of the All India merit list.

If you belong to Kerala, you have high chances of getting a top branch even with a below par rank. After filling the general seats, the community seats are filled for different category students. There is also an NRI quota in place.

Should I join CUSAT? I have a decent rank in KEAM, so should I look for any other colleges? I have heard that classes in CUSAT are bad even though they have good faculties.

First of all, congratulations on getting a decent rank in KEAM.

Let’s be honest with this, I have only a little knowledge about colleges in Kerala apart from CUSAT. Being a student of CUSAT I can definitely assure you one thing and that is, classes at CUSAT are really good.

If you are hard-working, have a will to learn, and put in the effort, you will receive huge support and guidance from the faculty.

Categories CUSAT
Course Fee 42,000 - 2.8 lakh
Highest CTC 24 LPA
Average CTC 11-12 LPA
Recruiting Companies KPMG, Byju’s, JP Morgan, CitiBank, etc.

I request you to not believe in such kinds of rumors and false information. Also, do not be reluctant to make a choice and opt for CUSAT solely because of such rumors.

I have scored 95 in my boards in CBSE, will I get into CUSAT, considering that this year CUSATS is giving admission on the basis of board marks? I do have a Keralite status.

The year has not been predictable so far. Due to the pandemic, the procedure to make a merit list for the selected candidates has changed. Therefore, it is difficult to predict what rank you get based on your marks.

  • The merit list gets prepared according to the normalized marks secured by the individual in the respective board exam.
  • The institute will release the rank list.
  • You can check your rank with the previous year's cut-off ranks to know where you stand.

The status of Keralite is not needed. There are quotas for Keralites and Non-Keralites. You get a 50 percent exemption from the fee in the case of Kerala. For further details, you can visit the official site of the institution.

Which is the best branch in CUSAT?

SM
Suraj Mishra Posted On : April 20th, 2022

Safety and Fire Engineering, Naval Arch, and Ship Building are the best branches of CUSAT. These branches are unique and are offered only at a few locations across the country. CUSAT placement for these branches is pretty good. The average CTC for these branches is around INR 7-10 LPA

Other than these, non-core branches like CSE, IT, and ECE also have good placement records.

Is CUSAT a government college or a private college? What is its fee structure?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : February 23rd, 2024

CUSAT is an autonomous government university.

For home state students, the tuition fee is around 25-26k per semester, and for students from other states, it is around 45k per semester. This is the fee structure for B.Tech, for general and OBC category students.

The fee structure may vary from one branch to another.

How do I convert a GPA to a % in CUSAT?

SR
Sankalp Rajput Posted On : March 17th, 2022
B.Tech. from Cochin University Of Science and Technology

According to the order released by the university, CUSAT CGPA to percentage conversion rule is - Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) * 10

So, you need to subtract 0.5 from your CGPA and then multiply the result by 10. It will give the same result as calculating the total marks awarded and then finding the percentage.

What is the placement record of cusat?

AB
Ahalya Bose Posted On : August 8th, 2023
Studied at Cochin University (2019)

The placement scenario at CUSAT is better for branches like CS, IT, and Ship Building but very bad for branches like Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical. The institute hasn’t been releasing the official figures for a long time now so the following data is derived from media reports.

As per the media sources, out of 43 BTech (Naval Architecture and Ship Building) students, 41 were placed during 2023 placements. The highest and average package of the same was recorded at INR 17.3 LPA and INR 8.3 LPA, respectively. A total of 150 companies visited for BTech placements and selected 505 students. The highest package and average package for BTech stood at INR 25 LPA and INR 5.88 LPA, respectively.

The key highlights of CUSAT placements 2023 have been tabulated below

Particulars

Statistics (2023)

Highest package

INR 25 LPA

Average package

INR 4.9 LPA

Students placed

640

9 students offered pay package

INR 25 LPA

TCS, Infosys, Wipro

Overall, the CUSAT placement scenario isn’t very satisfying so you should reconsider your decision once.
