What is the first day feeling of any student who joined BITS PILANI ?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

My cousin was very excited when she finally got admission to her dream college. She drove herself to the campus and was amazed by the huge building hovering before her. The campus is located in a serene area away from the noise of city life and has an amazing grandeur. She was amazed by the beauty of the building.

Once the necessary formalities were over, she was escorted to her hostel room and she spent a little time unpacking and settling. She went shopping with her parents to get essential items such as buckets, mugs, mattresses, etc.

Once she was done setting up her room, she started roaming around and exploring the huge campus. The infrastructure left her awestruck and she was excited to consider the beautiful campus her new home for the next 4 years!

Is it wise to prepare for the ISI Kolkata B.Stat entrance exam instead of IIT?

SR
Shrayanshi Roy Posted On : September 15th, 2021
Studied at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata

Taking a course at IIT is just as difficult and demanding as pursuing a B.Stat course at ISI. They are whatever you choose to do with your life, whether you like mathematics/statistics enough to spend three years learning statistics (and a little math) and statistics solely at ISI, or you believe you are skilled in another subject that has a good course at one of the numerous IITs.

It depends totally on where you want to be. Furthermore, even if you prepare for college X, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. As a result, keeping colleges Y and Z in mind as a backup is always a good idea.

Only you can decide which option is preferable for you and what you want.

What do you think about BIT Mesra Jaipur Campus?

HS
Harpreet Saini Posted On : April 15th, 2021
Studied at BIT Mesra

BIT Mesra Jaipur campus is one of the seven extension campuses (Jaipur, Deoghar, Patna, Lalpur, Noida, Muscat, and Ras Al Khaimah) and one polytechnic school managed by the BIT Mesra deemed university. Now it will be unfair to compare an extension campus to the main campus of any university as the overall quality of the extension campus always tends to be less than the main campus.

  • Keeping in line with that, the Jaipur campus of BIT Mesra has a smaller campus area than BIT Mesra’s main campus.
  • The professors are also average and the facilities provided by the campus are also lesser compared to the main campus.
  • One plus point is that some of the toppers and few meritorious students are called to the main campus for the final placements.
  • The placements at the main campus are good with an average CTC of 11.76 LPA and the highest CTC of 49.76 LPA.

Now, the Jaipur campus of BIT Mesra is worth joining if you are looking for a brand name and a college with average output (this campus is still in the development phase). However, do not expect the level of quality offered at BIT Mesra. You may even consider joining some better-ranked and better-equipped state-level colleges in the vicinity.

Can I get admissions to IIT’s without GATE?

HB
Harsh Bhardwaj Posted On : January 8th, 2021
Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay

GATE is an online competitive exam conducted for qualification to ME, MTech, or P.hD. programs for admissions in top institutions like IIT, NIT, IIIT, and other institutes in India. It is conducted on the behalf of NCB and the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India.

For admissions in any of the IIT branches, students have a few other alternatives to get qualified than just appearing for GATE. Admissions can be given under the given circumstances:

Eligibility:

  • Students who have graduated in Engineering with a degree from IIT are exempted from appearing for GATE examinations and can directly apply and appear for a written test.

  • Students who have completed their BTech degree from another university but have a minimum CGPA of 8.0 and above consistently in the last two years, need not appear for GATE. These students can directly appear for the written test and personal interview round.

Institute:

Students who have an Engineering degree from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) and have a high CGPA of above 8.0 can be exempted from appearing for GATE. The criteria are only accessible within certain campuses of IIT depending upon the branch of study chosen.

Sponsored category:

Some IIT campuses also offer direct admissions under the sponsored category for top industry personnel or for individuals in academia. For high-level academicians, admissions to Master’s or Ph.D. programs can be done under the Quality Improvement Program (QIP).

Integrated Course:

  • For students who do not want to appear for GATE but are still looking at a master’s degree from IIT, you can opt for the 5-year integrated program (MTech+PhD).

  • In order to be eligible for admissions to this program, students must mandatorily have a CGPA of 7.5 and above in a relevant field of Engineering.

Furthermore, students who have more than 2 years of work experience and are working for companies that have any links with IIT and sponsor students for master’s courses can be exempted from providing GATE scores for admissions.

How are the hostels at BITS, goa?

MB
Mrunmay Bhatt Posted On : March 21st, 2023
BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (Graduated 2018)

The rooms are very spacious, with enough room for 8-10 people to hang out comfortably. You will find everything in the room to be cool and comfortable. Moreover, the weather in Goa is quite pleasant, so you won't have any trouble staying indoors in your room all day. From 2018 onwards, most students are allotted double-sharing rooms for the first year of their stay.

The hostels are relatively new as they were completed only in 2018-2019, which means they are immaculate, tidy, and well-maintained. The bathrooms are of western style, with 10 toilets per floor, almost like the ones you would find in a decent mall. You will have access to hot water throughout the day, and even at night if you plan on playing football at 12:30 AM.

If you are staying in D-hostels 1-4, you will be allotted a double sharing room that comes equipped with a cot, a big almirah with a fitted mirror, table, chair (not wooden), whiteboard, and a few storage racks. The rooms are spacious enough for 10-12 people to hang out comfortably. The electricity and internet facilities are excellent, although there have been a few power cuts lately, which may be a legitimate problem or just cost-cutting measures.

The common room in the hostel is huge when compared to the older senior hostels. It comes with a table tennis table, carrom board, chess board, and of course, a TV with cable.
