Can anyone with a Xth 65% XIIth 67.4 and BTech 7.73 can practically land into good B-school such as FMS Delhi, IIT Mumbai/Delhi, NMIMS, NITIE or JBIMS?

MR
Mridul Roy Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDMM from NITIE (2018)

These institutes don’t give much weightage to academics.

  • FMS doesn’t consider your marks at any stage of admission. At FMS, You will get a call based on your CAT score. The final admission is often based on the Group discussion and Personal Interview. For the final call, 85% weightage is given to the CAT score and 15% is assigned to the GD-PI score.
  • JBIMS also admits students based only on their entrance examination scores.
  • NITIE assigns more weightage to GD-PI.
  • IITs also do the same.

Historically speaking, these institutes have offered admission to students with a similar profile as yours.

Are the opportunities the same for a vet passing from a private veterinary college and that from a government college (like TANUVAS, Bombay, and GBPUAT)?

RS

Yes, because regardless of whether you graduated from a private or government-approved college, you will receive a registration number to practice from the state registration authority in the state where the college is located.

However, because of its strong alumni base, the government veterinary institutions have a better industry reputation.

However, only a few private colleges in the north are performing particularly well.

Also in the current industry, most recruiters are concerned about specialization. They will be more concerned regarding your master’s degree. So, focus on your studies and try to join a reputed university for masters.

Is it possible to get an education loan before admission in IIM Rohtak? Is a co-borrower necessary, as my parents income is 1 lacks per year?

SR

MBA from IIM Bangalore (2018)

You can take a loan for pursuing your studies at IIM Rohtak. Many banks provide you a loan for your education without keeping collateral or any security before. The only thing you need is to have a co-borrower that can be your father, mother, brother, sister, or any other known person. However, you need to submit some amount of money to get your seat reserved that can't be given by the bank initially but can be reimbursed after some time.

Also, you can take a loan more than your total fees for the course, so that your other expenses like a laptop, traveling costs, certification courses, or any other can be fulfilled smoothly.

You can choose from multiple courses in edX and Coursera to help you develop your CV.

  • If you are particularly worried about getting a job, my advice to you would be to prepare well.
  • You should submit your CV to various job portals like Naukri.com and LinkedIn as these are the ones that are highly popular.
  • You will also have to study very hard. Learn new skills to make your CV strong.
  • Build new connections.
  • Connect with your friends, seniors and also try to find out which companies they are planning to work in.

You will have to give your absolute best. Do not go out looking for a job, invest some time and look for a reliable job.

Irma vs IIM Udaipur. What do you think is a better choice? Considered I am interested in rural management as well as general management.

Without much thought, I will always choose IIM Udaipur over Irma. This is a viable option even if you are interested in Rural Management. In fact IIM Udaipur will offer you much more. You can choose from a plethora of industry functions. Rather than restricting your preferences, IIM Udaipur will enable you to broaden your career interests.

One of my friends is an IRMA pass-out. After interacting with her I realized that the students or the B School in general have a very shortsighted approach. It was after this that I was certain of IIM Udaipur’s credibility.

Can we take an education loan for studying in any IIM?

AS
Ahan Singhal Posted On : July 30th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (2019)

Yes, If you believe it will help you advance your career. You can receive a loan to pay for your education at any IIM.

  • In general, certain banks have connections with college officials and can provide education loans instantly and at a low interest rate.
  • Tuition, housing fees, laptops, and student exchange are all covered by these loans.
  • But in my opinion, I would suggest you think properly.
  • If an MBA (from any top university, whether Indian or international) will not add much value to your current professional profile, you should not pursue it (whether with or without a loan, as there is also an opportunity cost associated with pursuing a full-time MBA).

Value Addition -

  • There is a ceiling for some verticals, and to develop beyond, you'll require an MBA.
  • You might need a skill set that an MBA education can provide for the role you want to get into. These abilities will assist you in landing your dream career or post.
  • An MBA degree can sometimes be little more than a signal to employers that you are a deserving applicant.
  • This signaling will offer you an advantage in this situation.
  • It might be any of the following, a combination of two or more, or none of the above (if you don't think an MBA would bring much value).

I chose MBA because it seemed like a more straightforward path to my desired job. It helped me gain the required skills (yes, there are interesting and relevant things you can learn during your MBA course).

If any of the aforementioned points apply to you and your main issue is debt, I recommend pursuing an MBA. It will be worthwhile. Believe me when I say that you will be able to repay your debt.

Did WES provide ECA on your PTU transcripts? They rejected mine, saying they do not accept transcripts from PTU.

SK

Well, I don’t have much knowledge about whether WES provides ECA on your PTU transcripts or not. But I can assist you with some details I got to know from one of my friends at PTU.

  • It depends on the mode of your course.
  • There is hardly any chance of rejection of transcripts from PTU. If the mode of the course is regular there won’t be any rejection.
  • However, they may reject the tone of course done by correspondence mode if required.
  • As far as I know, transcripts from PTU were usually accepted.
  • So, a transcript from PTU may not be the primary issue definitely, the issue must be something else for sure.

Please thoroughly check the reason mentioned for rejection before reaching down to any conclusion.

My daughter is getting an admission in IIT Delhi's management course but she has already taken admission in IIM Kozhikode. Should she shift?

JB
Janhvi Batra Posted On : September 14th, 2021
Former Marketing Intern at Indian Institute of Management,Lucknow

IIM Kozhikode is far superior to IIT Delhi. It is regarded as one of the best management education institutes in the world. IIT is a technological institute, whereas IIM is a management institute.

Regardless of location, you should choose IIM Kozhikode over the Department of Management Studies at IIT Delhi. Following are the factors for the same:

  • IIM K is a well-established institute with over two decades of experience, and most importantly, it is an IIM.
  • It has a higher brand value, better placements. MBB has also visited IIM Kozhikode.
  • In terms of faculty, they are top-notch and have experienced in their respective fields.
  • The campus is beautiful and extraordinary, and it is only a few hours away from Wayanad. It is a great place to be and no one would want to miss campus life.

You should choose IIM K over DMS IIT Delhi, irrespective of its location. You will not regret it.

Is it always good to join new IIMs leaving PGDM marketing at IMT Ghaziabad?

JJ
Jason Jose Posted On : February 16th, 2023
Former Assistant Manager at Union Bank Of India (2019–2021)

When considering whether or not to leave a PGDM in Marketing at IMT Ghaziabad for a new IIM, it is important to take into account the reputation and track record of the institution you currently attend. IMT Ghaziabad is a well-known and respected name in the list of business schools in India, with a legacy of producing leaders.

It is particularly strong in the field of marketing, and therefore leaving it for a new or lesser-known IIM may not be the best decision. Instead, it would be recommended to stay at IMT Ghaziabad and make the most of the opportunities and resources available there.

What are the chances of getting at IIM ABC, FMS, or XLRI if 10/12/grads' percentages are 65/82/65?

PP
Pablo Patranobish Posted On : April 26th, 2023
FMS Delhi (2019)

Admission to top management institutes in India such as IIMs, FMS, and XLRI is highly competitive and is based on multiple factors such as academic performance, work experience, entrance exam scores, and personal interviews. While academic performance is an important factor, it is not the only criterion for selection.

Here are some points to consider based on the academic percentages provided:

  • Class 10 and 12 percentages: While class 10 and 12 percentages are not the primary criteria for selection, they are still considered during the screening process. A percentage of 65 in class 10 and 82 in class 12 is not considered very high, but it is not very low either. It is important to note that the final selection depends on multiple factors, including entrance exam scores and performance in personal interview rounds.
  • Graduation percentage: Graduation percentage is a more critical factor for admission to management institutes. Most institutes have a minimum cut-off percentage for graduation, usually in the range of 50% to 60%. A percentage of 65 in graduation may not be competitive enough for top-tier institutes like IIM A/B/C, FMS, and XLRI. However, it is still possible to get admission if you have exceptional work experience or perform exceptionally well in the entrance exam and personal interview rounds.
  • Entrance exam scores: Entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and GMAT play a significant role in the selection process. To get admission to the top-tier institutes, you need to score above the minimum cut-off for each institute. For example, IIMs usually have a cut-off of 99 percentile or higher for general category candidates. FMS Delhi has a cut-off of 97 percentile for CAT. XLRI has a cut-off of 95 percentile for XAT. So, your entrance exam scores are critical for getting shortlisted for the next rounds.
  • Work experience: Most management institutes prefer candidates with some work experience. If you have relevant work experience, it can significantly boost your chances of getting selected, even if your academic percentages are not very high. Some institutes like FMS Delhi and XLRI have a higher weightage for work experience during the selection process.

In summary, while academic percentages are important, they are not the only criteria for selection. Your chances of getting into IIM A/B/C, FMS, or XLRI depend on multiple factors, including entrance exam scores, work experience, and performance in personal interview rounds. A percentage of 65 in 10th/12th and 65 in graduation may not be very competitive, but you can still improve your chances by performing exceptionally well in the entrance exam and having relevant work experience.
