IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019. It was established in 2008 by the government of India. The campus is located in the city itself. It has hostel facilities, Mess facilities, gym, sports grounds and courts, Clubs, canteens, cafeteria, multi-purpose store, dispensaries, etc.

IIT Bhubaneswar has hostel facilities for MTech students for boys and girls both in the campus. Students will be able to purchase Mattress, Bed Sheet, Pillow and Pillow Cover, Mosquito Repellent, Bucket, Mug, Notebooks, Bags, etc. The Hostel has a capacity of 800 male students and 200 female students. The hostel rooms are for a single occupant. It has ATMs with 24x7 security for the campus and has wifi connection in each room. Like other IITs the campus have their own Gymkhana club which organizes regular events like sports, music, tech, etc. they also have cultural events, fests, workshops, etc. The campus has its own Healthcare team of professionals and also has separate dispensaries for boys and girls.

The candidates with a minimum of 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA in B.Tech with a valid score are eligible to apply in IIT Bhubaneswar for metallurgy and material science. The shortlisting of the candidates will be based on the GATE score only. The selection is based on 70% weightage on the GATE score and 30% in written test and interview.

So for admissions in the metallurgy and material science specializations, there is an average cut off GATE score for the year 2020 which is 460-470. Since GATE is a relative and dynamic grading examination so the best way is to achieve more score. Yes, hostels are provided to M.TECH students at IIT Bhubaneswar, Earlier, both these hostels were outside the main campus of IIT Bhubaneswar because the campus was still being constructed. From 2019 July onwards IIT Bhubaneswar gives accommodations to MTech students in the permanent campus in Argul. Two new hostels came up last year with the names Brahmaputra Hall of Residence and Ganga Hall of Residence. The Brahmaputra Hall of residence accommodates all the boys from MTech, MSc, and Ph.D. branches to go along with the BTech first-year boys and the Ganga Hall of Residence accommodates all the girls. Each MTech student has his/her separate rooms inside the hostel and the hostel is equipped with all the facilities ranging from washing machines for laundry to the gymnasium.

Being an IIT, it has some excellent professors in the mechanical department, hence academically one needs not worry. Talking about the mechanical engineering department at IIT BBS, it has some excellent, well-experienced professors, so academically, it’s reliable. The thermal engineering professors are working on various research projects so students also can assist them with a useful contribution and takeout some best experiences. As per the data, the placements of Thermal engineering is nearly 100% with 70% of them in industries and 30% in academic. Question papers from previous years suggest the M.Tech admission test at IIT Bhubaneswar in civil engineering follows the same syllabus as GATE. In the written examination, there are mostly conceptual questions from core subjects as well as questions from mathematics and aptitude.
