Shall I join XIMB RM course rather than joining Infosys or Cognizant?

SS
Sanghita Sengupta Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied PGP at XIMB

XIMB is a highly reputed management institute in India, offering a variety of courses including the Rural Management (RM) program. If you are interested in pursuing a career in rural development, the RM program at XIMB could be a great choice for you. The RM program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to work in the field of rural development and prepares students for a range of roles in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

On the other hand, if you are considering joining Infosys or Cognizant, you would be entering the IT industry. While these companies are highly respected in the IT sector, it's important to consider whether a career in IT is the right fit for you.

When making a decision between the XIMB RM course and a job at Infosys or Cognizant, you may want to consider the following:

  • Your interests and career goals: It's important to consider your own interests and goals when making a decision about your career. If you are passionate about rural development and want to work in this field, the RM course at XIMB could be an excellent choice. On the other hand, if you are interested in IT and want to pursue a career in this field, a job at Infosys or Cognizant may be a better option.
  • Long-term prospects: Consider the long-term prospects of each option. The RM program at XIMB could open doors to a wide range of career opportunities in rural development, both in India and abroad. Similarly, a job at Infosys or Cognizant could provide you with opportunities for growth and advancement in the IT industry.
  • Financial considerations: It's also important to consider the financial implications of each option. The RM program at XIMB will require an investment of time and money, whereas a job at Infosys or Cognizant will provide you with a steady income.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to join the XIMB RM course or a job at Infosys or Cognizant depends on your individual interests, goals, and financial situation. It's important to weigh the pros and cons of each option and consider what will best help you achieve your long-term career aspirations.

What are my chances for any of the old IIM's and XLRI with the above profile 10 the - 79%, 12th- 60%, B.Tech -77%, work experience - 1 year?

RC
Rishi Chand Posted On : May 21st, 2021
PGDM Human Resources, IIM C

In order to get into one will get into top-notch IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, you need to score around 99 percentile in the CAT exam. If you have secured a decent score and your own work experience, then you will surely get a call letter from any of the above IIMs and XLRI also.

Old IIMs - All of them have weightage for Academics, but they aren't your strong point.

XLRI & FMS - They don't give any weightage for your Academics in their shortlisting process. So you do stand a chance there. But it's advisable to focus on the CAT exam, the above percentages in 10th,12th, and during B. Tech is necessary but not mandatory. Aim for at least 99.5+ percentile in CAT.

For example, Chetan Bhagat, who is the writer of some novels, said in his novel 'Five Point Someone that he just got a CGPA around 5 in mechanical engineering. But he did his post-graduation from IIM Ahmedabad. If the academic background is that important, he would not have gotten into IIM Ahmedabad. But it would be really difficult to justify your poor academics although it can be done.

What is the cutoff at NIT Surathkal for an MBA course?

AC
Arindam Chakraborty Posted On : September 15th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

NIT Surathkal offers candidates a full-time 2-year MBA program the total fee of which is INR 2.5 lakhs. To be eligible for this program, you must have completed your bachelor's with at least 50% marks or 5.5 CGPA from any recognized university. Additionally, you will have to appear for CAT, MAT, and XAT. The institute does not release the exact MBA cutoff but here is a vague idea for you

The minimum CAT percentile required to get admission in the MBA program of NIT Surathkal is 80 percentile.

  • General Category: 80-85 percentile
  • OBC category: 70+ percentile
  • SC and ST category: 65 percentile

However, I am strongly against you joining this institute as its MBA program has no value. Go to a full time-dedicated MBA B-school, and not a department of any Government college. It will help you save money and time.

DS
Debadrita Sinha Posted On : February 10th, 2022
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (2019)

Very few universities in Canada offer MBA without GMAT scores. They will consider other factors as eligibility criteria such as work experience for selection.

York University’s Schulich of School of Business, McMaster University’s Degroote School of Business are some of the most reputed business schools in Canada that offer MBA without GMAT. Other than these, other universities offering MBA without GMAT are New York Institute of Technology, Thompson Rivers University, Lakehead University, Wilfrid Laurier University.

You have the option to apply for executive MBAs without a GMAT score, too.

Why is it that MBA coaching classes always suggest joining new IIMs (including IIM Shillong) over other top colleges like NITIE, MDI, NM, etc.? Do they have any ulterior motive behind this?

AM
Apala Mishra Posted On : January 27th, 2023
IIM Shillong

It is likely that the institute you are considering wants to increase the number of its students who are accepted into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) because the IIM brand holds a lot of value in the eyes of prospective students. However, it is important to do your own research about the institute, especially by talking to current students, to make sure it is the right fit for you. Even if an institute has a high number of students accepted into IIMs, it may not necessarily mean that it is the best option for you. It is always important to consider all of your options and make a decision that is best for you.

IIMs can be a good option for pursuing an MBA for several reasons. First, the tag, which provides support and guidance to newer IIMs, can help ensure that these institutes have a well-tested teaching methodology and offer high-quality education. Additionally, the smaller batch sizes at new IIMs can provide students with more individualized attention and a more personal learning experience. New IIMs may also have decent placements, and they often have the support of the government, which can provide additional resources and stability.

Furthermore, NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering) is often considered a top choice for operations, but if you are open to making a decision about your field of study after your first year of MBA, new IIMs may be a good bet for you. Overall, it is important to consider all of your options and do thorough research to determine which institute is the best fit for you.

Which one to choose between TAPMI PGDM and IMI Delhi PGDM (Banking & Finance)? Give reasons for the choice.

AK
Aditya Kwatra Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
Studied at College of Engineering, Trivandrum

I am certain that if I had been in your place I would have opted for TAPMI PGDM over IMI Delhi PGDM. I even have a friend who recently joined this program and is very happy with her decision so I have more assurance in this regard.

TAPMI is well recognized not only in India but abroad as well, especially in the Middle East. I know many colleagues from my last workplace who relocated to the Middle East and other foreign countries after graduating from TAPMI.

The infrastructure and campus are very beautiful, unlike the NCR campus which is hot and congested. Delhi is suitable only if you are interested in Sales roles. Else for specialization in Finance and Banking TAPMI is the best choice one can make. Some companies that visited the campus during placements are

  • Deloitte
  • Bajaj
  • CRISIL
  • Fincare
  • HDFC Bank
  • Invesco

I think TAPMI is the best option if you are looking for a sales role in a Finance company.

Is there any student with poor academic record who got into any of the top B schools like IIM, XLRI, FMS? PS - Non Engineer.

NS
Nisha Shah Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Yes, there are students with poor academic records who have made it to top B-schools like IIMs, XLRI, and FMS. B-schools do not solely rely on academic records while selecting candidates. They also consider other factors such as work experience, extracurricular activities, achievements, and performance in entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and GMAT.

To improve your chances of getting into top B-schools, you can focus on the following:

  • Strong Entrance Exam Performance: Score well in the entrance exam. It is one of the most critical factors considered by B-schools while shortlisting candidates.
  • Work Experience: A significant work experience can be an advantage for you. It shows that you have practical knowledge and skills that can add value to the classroom discussions.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Participate in extracurricular activities and showcase your leadership qualities, team skills, and problem-solving abilities. It can make a positive impact on your application.
  • Recommendation Letters: Recommendation letters from your previous employers, professors, or colleagues can help you to strengthen your application. It reflects positively on your character, skills, and potential.
  • Diversity: B-schools appreciate diversity in their student body. So, if you have unique experiences, backgrounds, or perspectives, highlight them in your application.
  • Personal Interview: Prepare well for the personal interview. It is an opportunity for you to showcase your communication skills, analytical abilities, and passion for management education.

In conclusion, a poor academic record should not discourage you from pursuing your dreams of getting into top B-schools. You can focus on the factors mentioned above to improve your chances of success.

What should be the order of preference for MBA among DSE, XIMB, MICA, FORE, SIBM, and SCMHRD?

KS
Krisna Sachdeva Posted On : April 16th, 2021
PGDM-C at MICA, Ahmedabad (2016)

You should first list down the parameters that are used to rank the institutes in the order of preference. This forms the objective aspect of the categorization methodology.

  • Placement data
  • Cut-off in the entrance exam
  • Location
  • Institute’s age
  • Fee

The main aspect of the parameter list includes the quality of the alumni and faculty. So, to arrive at a conclusion on the basis of the above parameters, various sources of information have been considered keeping in mind the specialization they are preferred for.

Order of Preference - Marketing:

  • MICA>= SIBM Pune
  • SCMHRD and XIMB
  • FORE
  • DSE

Order of Preference - Finance:

  • SIBM Pune
  • SCMHRD
  • XIMB
  • FORE
  • DSE

Order of Preference - Human Resources:

  • SCMHRD
  • SIBM Pune
  • XIMB and FORE
  • DSE

MICA isn’t considered to be good for Finance and HR specializations. It offers PGDM in Strategic Marketing and Communication. Other institutes offer specialization in Finance, HR, Operations.

You have got to be very clear while considering your MBA. You must have a clear idea about the specialization you are going to take and the industry you would want to work for in the future. Just try to make an informed decision.

Is it true that MBA marketing freshers are offered sales jobs? Even if they are from JBIMS or SIMSREE?

SP
Sanket Patil Posted On : February 20th, 2023
Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2005)

This is true for almost all the B Schools. Many B Schools offer sales jobs to MBA Marketing freshers even if they are from JBIMS or SIMSREE. There are some logical reasons behind this are as follows:

  • You need to know the basics to understand the higher level of knowledge
  • Eventually, you will be responsible for managing large teams. So with a sales job, you are familiarized with handling teams that do core sales.
  • The exposure connects you with various people in the hierarchy
  • Your ultimate role in life will be a salesperson as you will be seeking your idea to go Manager or a business idea to your CEO, so it’s better to enter early in the field and grasp the basics.

The requirement of experience depends solely on the company you are applying to. But I will personally suggest you be flexible and open to all profiles rather than targeting a single one.
