Whether you should go for MS from BITS Pilani or not depends on your individual goals and purposes.
If you are pursuing MS simply to broaden your knowledge base, then this program is a good option. Although there are many MOOCs available for free, like Coursera, Udacity, and EdX. But if you want to pursue a formal degree because of lack of discipline then this program will serve you best.
However, if you are pursuing this program to enhance your job prospects and opportunities then I am against you joining it. Job opportunities depend a lot more on your network than academics, while job prospects depend on your skills.
The ultimate decision is based on your personal goals and interest so choose wisely!
People in India are very brand conscious. This is exactly why most engineering aspirants can be seen flocking to IITs. IIT is the dream college for them and their sheep mentality does not let them look beyond it. I have met many people from BITS who claim that choosing BITS over IIT was one of the wisest decisions of their life.
BITS Pilani is a well-reputed technical institute. BITS Pilani ranking by NIRF is 20 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023. Every BITS campus has top-notch infrastructure and placement scenarios making it one of the best institutes that enjoys global recognition as well.
Here are a few facts pertaining to BITS Pilani that might convince you of its worth
So BITS Pilani enjoys a good reputation both nationally and internationally owing to its flexible curriculum and the excellent opportunities that it offers.
No, it’s prohibited to install ACs or even coolers in BITS Pilani hostels. There are 2 main reasons for this. Firstly ACs will cost very much and the electricity bills will be high. Secondly, it will be very difficult to provide ACs for around 3000 students inside the campus.
Honestly, you will get used to the heat after the initial struggle and will not even find the lack of ACs a big issue.
The registration is a process through which you will choose your instructors for the course. For registering you will be randomly allotted a number called PR number and that's the basis for the registration.
Secondly, the bigger the PR number, the lesser are your chances of getting the most popular instructors. That can be a real loss because you might miss out on good teaching and good marks. So, it's better to register soonest.
In case you miss the ongoing registration, you can register after a week. you will be charged a late fee and once it's been submitted you can register but again, it'll not be worth it because by the time you will register, all the amiable, erudite, and friendly guides would have been chosen by others.
BITS Pilani recently concluded its placement drive for this year and the average package stood at INR 30.37 LPA whereas the highest package stood at INR 60.75 LPA.
The Institute does not release branch-wise packages and thus I consulted a friend who was a part of the BITS Pilani placement drive 2021. As per the information obtained from her, around 80% of the students of the mechanical branch got placed. The average salary package offered was 13 LPA and the highest salary package offered was 40 LPA by Daikin for the mechanical course. Decent roles were offered to students of this branch.

Trust me when I say both BITS Pilani and NIT (top NITs only) are almost at the same level and comparing them is illogical. However, you would like to consider a few parameters specifically
Many people hesitate from joining BITS because of its high fees but trust me the job opportunities and quality of education you will be offered will be worth every penny you spent.
It is indeed very challenging to get a branch change at BITS Pilani after the first year. I will never recommend anyone to come here with a branch change in mind as it solely depends on your luck and immense hard work.
The CGPA cutoff here is very high, and only geniuses are capable of changing their branches.
Even if there are a few subjects you are weak at your chances become minimal. You will have to work as hard as 7-8 hours daily and even that won’t guarantee a branch change. You will have to sacrifice everything including sports, your passion, and sleep.
So I will advise you to think better and go to another college if you are not getting your preferred branch here.
When comparing BITS Pilani with BITS Goa, there are several factors that you should consider before making your decision:
Ultimately, the decision of whether to choose BITS Pilani or BITS Goa should be based on your personal preferences and goals. While BITS Pilani may have a slight edge in terms of faculty and infrastructure, BITS Goa is also a good viable option with a good reputation.
The new IITs are just continuing the legacy of the already-established old IITs and are doing little to contribute to the IIT tag. BITS on the other hand has made its name solely because of its excellence and achievements. That being said, it's completely unfair to compare new IITs with BITS Pilani.
BITS Pilani was established in 1964 whereas the new IITs were established in 2008. The huge gap portrays the difference in legacy and alumni base. BITS Pilani gives an edge to new IITs in terms of both infrastructure and academic environments. Moreover, the Practice School program guarantees you internships and thus provides better exposure which you won’t be able to get at new IITs that are taking baby steps to make opportunities available to their students.
On a final note, it’s important to remember that your college is just a stepping stone and not the sole factor that determines your career. It’s all about your dedication, hard work, and making the most of the available resources!
BITS Pilani does not release course-wise placement statistics so the information I have mentioned is not from official resources but from someone who was in the previous batch.
As per him, all ME CS students get placed and around 3 to 4 students with better CGPA are chosen to sit in PS -2. BITS Pilani placement takes place in 2 semesters. In the second placement semester, students get excellent internship offers on the basis of their CGPA. Top recruiters who recruit ME CS students are Qualcomm, Cisco, Mathworks, Microsoft, and Amazon.
Another friend who was in the 2020 batch claimed that almost 100% of the students were placed. The highest salary package offered was 50 LPA, while the average salary package offered was 20 LPA and the minimum salary package offered was 10 LPA. Top recruiter companies are Google, Amazon Sprinklr, Cisco, Samsung, Microsoft, and many others.
Overall, ME CS students need not worry about placements at all.
