What is the selection procedure of IIM Lucknow?

AR
Ayush Raj Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

The procedure is divided into three stages:

  • WAT: If you are selected for WAT based on your profile and CAT score, you will likely be contacted to proceed with the process in the city of your choice. The process begins on the scheduled day with a WAT in which you are given 10 minutes to write on a given topic. The subject matter could be abstract, current affairs-related, or, in rare cases, technical.
  • GD: After submitting your WAT sheets, you will be asked to participate in a GD on the same topic.
  • PI: Following the GD, the same panel will conduct one-on-one interviews with the candidates. The majority of the questions are based on the information you would have provided in your profile on the application, including your educational background, ECA, and work history (if any).

You should also be ready to respond to inquiries about current events and perhaps your group discussion (GD) if there was a particularly important point to be made.

Why do people flock to IIM Lucknow and leave SPJIMR and FMS, when IIML teaches management like engineering whereas SPJIMR and FMS have a more conducive environment to actually learn? They also get the

By ‘teaches Management like Engineering’ I assume what you mean is Management studies at IIM Lucknow are more strict, mundane, and repetitive. In this regard, I refuse to accept your claim as the reality is far from this.

People graduating from these institutes are youngsters with an age group of 20-25 so there is very little impact of the institutes' pedagogy on the learner’s ability to learn. These candidates are likely to be more serious regarding their growth and even sacrifice the fun of a typical B School life just to reach new heights. Anyone with such a mindset is likely to fare well anywhere irrespective of the choice of Institute.

I am going to specifically pinpoint the scenario at FMS because there is a general conception that FMS has a relatively chilled ambiance. The truth is I have seen many students working tremendously hard in their 2 years. They explore much more than academics and take part in many extracurricular activities because they know it’s their last opportunity before they enter the corporate world. The attendance rules although stricter than that at IIM Lucknow are no direct indication of the general discipline and the rigor of the curriculum. Every institute has its own tailored learning environment and it’s up to the students to make the most out of it.

People just ‘flock’ to a particular B School because of the sheep mentality. Rather their decisions are based on continuous analysis of various factors like tags, peer group, intended specialization, placement opportunities, personal goals.

Is MDI Gurgaon better than IIM Lucknow?

AG
Anika Gupta Posted On : August 16th, 2022

MDI Gurgaon is better compared to IIM Lucknow. The student crowd is more competitive at MDI. Located at the heart of Gurgaon, it also has a huge locational advantage. Due to the locational benefits, getting live projects, off campus placements and internships are easier.

MDI Gurgaon placements 2022, witnessed the highest CTC of INR 1.14 CPA. The median CTC offered this year was INR 23.50 LPA.

Which one is better if I like both of them equally, 31 LPA in a big product-based company or IIM Lucknow?

PGP-ABM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

Many people in fact almost everyone going to say that a package of INR 31 LPA is a more glittering option than MBA at IIM Lucknow. However, I beg to differ. My opinion is based on the thinking that no matter how much you earn, an MBA is always a game changer. This is because you learn a lot in a classroom full of masterminds and the best professors than you do at work. Although you might be able to apply those skills only after a long time that’s the case with MBA, it does not give you short-term benefits, it provides long-term benefits. It ends up being the reason for your success and excellence.

MBA is not a specialization but rather a general course. It teaches everything in finance, accounting, and marketing. A successful leader requires basic knowledge of anything and everything which is possible through an MBA only. It will open gates for you to carbon black manufacturers, Steel manufacturers, and so on. You can plan your career after your MBA and climb the ladder slowly but swiftly. From a tech company to a core company to a banking sector, you can switch your posts depending on your interests.

Another major advantage of pursuing an MBA is making some great friends that will become great leaders and broaden your networks.

Which one should I go for, SPJIMR or IIM L?

NJ
Netra Joshi Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at IIM Lucknow

IIM Lucknow is ranked as one of the top 5 business schools in the country, while SP Jain is typically ranked somewhere between 6-10. Choosing IIM Lucknow over SP Jain is a wise decision, as IIM Lucknow has a larger and more prestigious brand. The institute has a better reputation among companies, a stronger alumni network, and slightly better placement opportunities.

While SP Jain may have a location advantage, it won't make a significant difference as there will be plenty of opportunities available to you at IIM L. It's important to do your own research when making decisions, but in this case, it's a no-brainer. Choosing IIM Lucknow is the clear choice, especially when compared to other business schools like SP Jain, IIM K, IIM I, MDI, and JBIMS.

If you have the opportunity to choose between SPJIMR and IIM L, head all the way to Lucknow without a second thought

Why are there so many negative answers regarding IIM Lucknow place-coms?

SN
Sanskar Nigam Posted On : January 16th, 2023
IIM C-ISI K-IIT Kgp

It's not just IIM Lucknow; all college place-coms have the same image. Every student spends his or her entire college career hoping to be hired by their dream company. They have all worked extremely hard for many years in order to obtain that prestigious position.

You have the ability to place someone while in college. This is why place-comers are always getting these comments, especially from those who were unplaced, missed their dream placement, were placed in another company while a more preferred company was still hiring, are not on good terms with the place-comers, and so on.

Furthermore, Place-comers place people in one company before moving on to place the remainder in the next. They are responsible for placing everyone/or the majority of people. Nobody notices your efforts, and you only attract hostility. Some people try to become place-comers simply because they want to have the authority to place themselves or their friends.

What is your honest review of IIM Lucknow?

AM
Aziz Manva Posted On : January 9th, 2023

My honest review of IIM Lucknow is that no matter what gibberish you hear about it, it’s one of the best B Schools out there. The outstanding balance of ambiance, infrastructure, library, faculty, and a student-gender ratio ensures that you focus on your goals and studies completely.

My friend recently passed out from this institute and says that she has learned a lot from it. It has taught her to stay tight on her goals and not complain about tiny things. It has taught her to have realistic expectations and goals and how to achieve them.

The deadlines and rigor keep you on your toes and helps you acquire amazing time-management and pressure-handling skills.

Also, the batch at IIM Lucknow is very interactive and friendly so you won’t feel left out and end up making some friends for life.

I have done part time MBA from IIM Lucknow (WMP), Is it okay to apply for PGPX courses at IIM A/B/C?

SA
Sonal Agarahari Posted On : January 9th, 2023
IPM from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

No, I wouldn’t recommend you apply for a PGPX course at IIM A B or C if you have completed a part-time MBA from IIM Lucknow. The reason is the huge overlap of electives in almost all the programs offered at IIMs. Leaving a few courses most of which are repeated in all the programs be it part-time or full-time.

Towards the end of the course, you might end up spending a hefty fee and lots of time and yet not learning anything new. If anything you might just get placed at a better firm. But that too will be useless if you are unable to harness the acquired knowledge and skills in the open market. The question is if your job will be worth your year lost, your lost opportunities, and 25-30 lakhs of loan.

Still, if you want to pursue the course go for a top MBA course abroad. That might make a difference in your resume and job prospects.

Should I go for a PGPM in MDI Gurgaon or for IIM L ABM?

RS
Rishika Shindde Posted On : February 22nd, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Finance, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2018)

Go for the IIM Lucknow ABM program only if you are sincerely inclined towards agri. If not then choosing ABM will limit your career prospects considerably and you might even regret it later.

MDI Gurgaon PGDM is one of the oldest programs that have great value. MDI Gurgaon can easily be called the country’s best B School. The admissions are solely based on merit so the quality of your peers is top-notch. Some major highlights of the institute and its PGDM program are

  • Experienced permanent faculty
  • Student-driven clubs
  • Student-driven Mutual Fund
  • Elaborate alumni network
  • Lush green campus
  • Excellent peer learning

So you will not regret choosing MDI even over IIM Lucknow.

How is the FPM in Finance at IIM Indore, Lucknow, Kozhikode?

S
Sumit Posted On : January 3rd, 2023
Works at CDGI Indore (2013–present)

The FPM or the Fellow Program in Management is a full-time, residential, fully financially supported doctoral program of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode.

One of my friends joined IIM Kozhikode for research under financial accounting and control. According to her, the first year is full of rigor and a rigid curriculum. The FPM students share the curriculum with MBA students in the first year along with 3 FPM courses. The shared curriculum enables them to get in insight into various aspects of Management.

Like the first year, the second to has 3 semesters of 3 months each. This year comprises core FOm courses that give a depth understanding of methodologies and various econometric tools.

One major drawback my friend faced was the improper ratio between the number of courses and their period of study. The second year has 7 courses in each term which imply 12 days per subject which is insufficient. If we consider the 30 hours of classes per course, it means we attend classes for 210 hrs ( appr 8 days).

So IIM Kozhikode no doubt offers top-notch facilities and resources but you will have to prepare yourself to physically and mentally tire yourself to avail of them. FPM is an excellent course for research aspirants and not for casual learners.
