If you are mainly concerned with placements when it comes to CGC Landran for Mechanical, it is going to be tough. There are more than 800 students in a batch and crossing that hurdle to get placed is quite tough so my recommendation would not be for taking mechanical in this college.
As far as other branches are concerned, like CSE, IT and EC, you will definitely love studying there. You can get placed quite easily into decent companies and also get into international affairs like foreign exchange programs to countries like Belgium, China and UK.

When it comes to faculty with the mechanical department, it is quite good. However, the infrastructure is not that great at all. Being a mechanical engineering student, you will not get the exposure or knowledge you are looking for as compared to other colleges like SRM, VIT, or MIT Pune.
In my opinion, you should only join CGC Landran if you are looking for CSE and EC and not for mechanical engineering at all.
One of my friends graduated from IGIT this year. Here are a few things that I got to know about the Mechanical branch at IGIT.
Placements:
According to the statistics the placement sector is down in almost all colleges of Odisha. Seeing on the placement statistics of past years hardly a core company came for placement in IGIT.
This same situation can be seen in colleges like VSSUT and CET too. But they arrange some off-campus for mechanical students. Going in other campus placement is good in CET followed by VSSUT than IGIT. But that doesn’t make a big difference. Placement is almost the same in these colleges for core companies.
About Mechanical Branch:
The mechanical branch is one of the most strict branches of the institute.
The quality of education is average.
It will be better if you opt for CET followed by VSSUT and then IGIT. CET/VSSUT does call mass recruiters as compared to IGIT. IT jobs play the role of saviors since the number of core jobs is quite less. and are not likely to get a boost in near future.
Choose what interests you. If you are interested in Chemical Engineering, BITS Pilani is a great option. It offers decent academics and exposure. Core Chemical companies and oil companies recruit from the institute. Schlumberger, ONGC, Reliance, etc. are among the major recruiters for the branch. BITS Pilani placement highlights show the average CTC to be around INR 12 LPA for Chemical Engineering.
But if you are interested in Mechanical Engineering, you should choose PEC Chandigarh.
The students can get better placement in NIT Raipur. One will get good opportunities and exposure in the mining branch too. Moreover, the experience at NIT is far better than BIT DURG.
The table shows a brief overview of the institutions:
Particulars |
NIT Raipur |
BIT DURG |
Median Salary |
Rs. 9.5 lakhs |
Rs. 6.5 lakhs |
Highest Salary |
Rs. 33 lakhs |
Rs. 32 lakhs |
Entrance Criteria |
JEE Mains |
CPET |
Fees |
Rs. 5.52 lakhs |
Rs. 2.92 lakhs |
So overall, if the students are into mechanical or mining, don't rely too much on what the book taught you, be aware of current trends and practices.
You are comparing two different engineering branches which are core and are perfect in their own place. Also, the selection of the branch should be primarily based on your interest and future plans. It is very important you choose a branch of your interest, as you will spend 4 years learning it. So, decide on the basis of your interest.
NIT Jamshedpur is much better than BIT Mesra in placements except CSE. CSE has slightly better placement in BIT Mesra than NIT Jamshedpur but then the gap is decreasing year by year. So, you can easily opt for the choice of field you want.

Let me give you some details regarding the future prospects in both of them:
Core Jobs:
Non-Core Jobs:
Government Jobs:
Several core companies come to campus at Jamshedpur in TATA town, TATA Powers and TATA Motors pick many students for jobs as well as for internships. Now, this brings a great advantage for both Mechanical as well as Electrical branch students.
Talking about infrastructure, BIT Mesra has a more beautiful campus than NIT Jamshedpur. If you want facilities, you should go with BIT Mesra. But, placement wise NIT Jamshedpur is far ahead of BIT Mesra, which is again proving NIT Jamshedpur worth over bit Mesra.
Based on the above parameters, you can decide for yourself. Regarding the two colleges you mentioned, both are equally good and have roughly the same student quality. BIT Mesra has an edge in software profiles and NIT Jamshedpur in Core Engineering placements.
I am a student of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. Both IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee are top engineering colleges, so the choice should be based on which stream would be the best for you.
Here is a comparison between Mechanical Engineering at IIT Roorkee and Production and Industrial Engineering at IIT Delhi-
Parameter | Mechanical at IITR | Production & Industrial Engg. at IITD |
---|---|---|
Scope of Study | Design, Manufacturing,Thermal Sciences, and more. | Production Systems, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, and Industrial Engineering Principles. |
NIRF Engineering Ranking 2024 | 6 | 2 |
Median Package | INR 17 LPA | INR 20.50 LPA |
Recruiting Companies on campus | Accenture, Adobe, CITI Bank, Facebook, Honda Cars, IBM,Oracle, PayPal, TATA, and others. | Google, Microsoft, ICICI Bank, Anheuser-Busch Inbev, JP Morgan, Case and Corporation, and others. |
Level of Difficulty | More Difficult and Time Consuming | Comparatively Easier. Will spare you time for coding and hobbies. |
If Mechanical Engineering interests you, I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee. It is a great institution, and you'll get plenty of learning on campus.
IIT Bhubaneswar is a new IIT and was established in the year 2008. On the other hand, IIT Dhanbad is an old IIT. Being an old IIT, the academic curriculum and academic flexibility are more functional at IIT Dhanbad than any other new IIT.
Many of my friends have passed out from IIT Dhanbad who were highly satisfied with their placement considering their JEE advance ranks. In the placement drive 2020, the highest package offered to the mechanical branch at IIT Dhanbad was INR 17 lakhs per annum.
Changing your branch is comparatively easier at IIT Dhanbad. So, even if you are compromising on your branch of choice, you can get it altered to your choice once you join in.
To conclude, I would suggest you go for IIT Dhanbad.
Artificial Intelligence is a specialization that is expected to be in high demand in the near future and its scope is yet to be determined. I don’t think it’s safe to go for a newly launched field that too from a new IIT. The program and institution both lack the necessary credibility. I would recommend you go for a general branch at a new IIT, a specialization like AI from a well-reputed institute. There are many factors one should consider like faculty, subject content, etc before going for a new specialization.
Mechanical at IIT Guwahati on the other hand is a very safe choice considering the high credibility of the long-standing Institute.
From the options given above, none of them are good. UEM Kolkata does not have good management at all. You will not find any good labs here. As far as ADAMAS is concerned, there is not much information available about it but my friends have said that is not that good either.
My suggestion to you would be to opt for computer science at either of these colleges. This is because pursuing core streams from either of these colleges will be of no help to you at all.
If you end up doing CSE, you can secure a job at a top MNC or IT firm. Due to the demand of CSE and IT graduates nowadays, there are more chances to get a job here, than in any core industry.

If you are looking for good labs at these colleges for core subjects, they will not be available to you. As a student, you will not be satisfied with this and the faculty is not that good either. You can opt for computer science engineering or eventually just go for Honors.
However, this is simply a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences.
Doing something that interests you is considerably superior in the long run to doing something you dislike solely for money since, after a few years, money no longer motivates you.
Here are some information to make your decision easier:-
