My brother is an alumnus of IIM Indore and he brought to light the harsh truth of the Mumbai Campus. Being a satellite campus of IIM Indore, the facilities, teaching, and placements are very substandard.
The ROI is terrible. You invest a lot of fees and get low packages or sometimes even no jobs. So I would recommend going for any other B School if you are confident of another attempt at CAT.
My brother has been at IIM Indore, Mumbai campus for the past 2 months. He has cleared the air of misconception and told me that the IIM Indore campus is on a level with any other IIM. Some pros and cons that will further elaborate on this point are
Pros
Faculty: The faculty comprises teachers who are geniuses in their own fields. Recalling several events he told me once his teacher during Organisational Behavior class, steered the conversation towards spiritualism. In another instance, the professor gave feedback on their case study solutions for maximum retention. The professors are humble and compassionate. They are ready to help you in anything from clearing doubts to suggesting books for study.
Peer Harmony: The harmony between the seniors and juniors here is another bright aspect. Any new undertaking by the juniors is encouraged by the seniors. The seniors along with juniors conduct skill-based workshops and organize guest lectures.
Placement Committee: The placement committee at IIM Indore, Mumbai campus is considerate and helps build long-term relationships with corporates. The placement coordinator is personally involved with the batch and he is an approachable person.
Location: One obvious advantage that IIM Indore has is its location. Located in the City of Dreams, the institute offers the students to step out of their comfort zone and try unimaginable things. The city offers a vast number of opportunities and baggage of experience. Also being the finance capital, the campus enjoys visits from various industry experts who impart significant corporate knowledge.
Brand Image: The IIM tag you will get to wear for the rest of your life will be beneficial everywhere and everytime. The IIM does not just prepares you for a job but it also prepares you for life in general.
Cons
Infrastructure: The fact that institute still lacks a campus can discourage many. Yet its not that big a merit you can leave your IIM tag for.
Accommodation: The institute offers no hostel facilities and one has to look for accommodation on their own. The seniors help a lot and this entire process might help you know the reality of life and prepare you for your future endeavors.
If you want to pursue a career in operations, NITIE is superior to both IIM K and IIM Indore. Any other specialization is followed by IIM K, IIM I, and NITIE.
NITIE is the best college in India for operations management, but IIMs are unrivaled in terms of culture and rigor.
IIM K is superior to IIM I for two reasons:
IIM Indore has a large batch size.
IIM I has a lower level of diversity due to a lower number of work-ex people.
One of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and here’s what I got to know from him.
So you can assume that a score of 64 translates to around 270. But do keep in mind that the cut offs of the aptitude test changes every year.
Both FMS Delhi and IIM Indore are highly reputed institutes in this league. When it comes to making a choice between FMS Delhi and IIM A/B/C, FMS should be your priority without a doubt. The facilities and opportunities offered at FMS are better than IIM Indore.
If you have doubts regarding this choice of yours you can always weigh the factors to have a better consideration in this regard.
Categories | FMS Delhi | IIM Indore |
Course Fee | 1.92 lakh | 15.01 lakh |
Highest CTC | 35 LPA | 35 LPA |
Average CTC | 16 LPA | 17 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Nestle, HSBC, Asian Paints, IBM, etc. | Morgan Stanley, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Goldman Sachs, etc. |
Although candidates tend to opt for IIMs for the name tag, FMS Delhi is a brand in its own and quite an influential one in this league. If you want a hassle-free university life and steady placement in the choice of your sector then FMS is for you.
There are several options for which you can opt after the Integrated program in Management, IPM. The variety of courses include the following.
These courses can add to your existing knowledge and can add to your resume that can help you in the long run for the jobs that you apply for. Also pursuing these courses from a well-reputed university and gaining experience through internships and other projects can help you to become a master of one particular field.
The overall and sectional CAT cutoffs for IIM Indore are 80 and 70 respectively for OBC category. The cutoffs remain the same each year with slight variation. IIM Indore is one of the few top colleges that don’t give much importance to CAT Scores. If your cat percentile is decent enough to get a call from IIM Indore, the ball is in your court. It gives 40% weightage to your Personal Interview which makes it easier for you to convert your call. Your acads are decent, just focus on your GK and be thorough with your resume.
One of my cousins studied at IIM Indore. According to him, yes, IPM IIM Indore has reservations in the final selection round.
IIM Indore, just like any other government institution, follows the reservation policies that are set up by the Government of India for colleges across the country. And, the same is followed for admission into the IPM course of IIM Indore as well.
However, even though this matters, I would suggest you not think about all these factors as of now and aim at scoring the best that you can.
There is no need to prepare for IPMAT separately if you have studied Maths up to class 12. Just revise all concepts and formulas time and again. If you are worried about English, it should be pretty easy for you considering you read and write in it regularly.
You should be disciplined and have a plan of action. You will be able to complete the entire syllabus required for the exam within 30 to 40 days.
After that, think of focusing your attention on topics that are essential for students. For example, my sister was not fluent in her language skills and she was not on the same level as her peers. For this, she spent extra time working on developing those skills. She completed her language section and devoted the rest of her time to mathematics and solving sums.
You should definitely look at time management and seeing where you lack. Being a student from a mathematics background, you will not need private classes or even tutoring. Prepare well and in advance to go back and work on your weaknesses.
You have ABCL FMS, don't join Indore. You have K SP Jain, choose according to your domain. Consider Indore after that. You don't need to plan on giving another shot at ABC. On the second try, 80% do not get into better colleges. Indore is most likely the best campus in terms of peer interaction and crowd size. IPM students will captivate you with their knowledge.
The IIM label is phenomenal and well worth it. Many people don't even know much about FMS. IIM Indore is ideal if you want to become an entrepreneur. Their Incubation Centre has produced some excellent work. If you're worried about getting the biggest paycheck, don't be; most students don't stay in their first job for more than a year.
