What is it like to be in ECE branch at NIT Warangal/ Surathkal/Calicut? How is the campus life and placements (companies visiting, kind of jobs, average packages)?

AR
Arnav Roy Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

I have a friend who studies in the ECE branch at NIT Warangal. I will break down his overall experience into simpler aspects

Academics: The curriculum and academic life at NIT Warangal for ECE students is a bit more challenging than others. Some semesters have too many courses and it’s difficult to get free time. The grades are given a lot of importance and students face tough competition. Also, the faculty is not very approachable.

  • Campus life: The campus life of students of all branches is similar. Equal opportunities and facilities are offered and students experience a productive ambiance where they can work on their passions.
  • Hostels : The hostel facilities are top-notch and both old and new hostels are available. Students get a home-like feel in these cozy buildings and make friends for life.
  • Mess food: Mess food is better than food served in intermediate hostels. However, students can opt for eating out if the food in the mess is unsatisfactory. The eateries outside serve decent food at low prices.
  • Sports : The sports culture here is not very prominent and you won’t be forced to be involved in any such activities.
  • Extracurricular : A number of clubs promote extracurriculars with ECEA being the most active association.
  • Peer group: Your batchmates will be the most hardworking and smartest people in the institute so peer group quality should be the last thing to worry about.
  • Placements : Both core and non-core placement opportunities are offered to ECE students. Here are the detailed stats for the same

Placement Percentage

Highest CTC

INR 52.89 LPA

Lowest CTC

INR 7 LPA

Median CTC

NIT Warangal ECE is a great choice in terms of job and academic opportunities. So try to maintain a good GP to avail the maximum benefits.

Which is better, taking EI in SGSITS or E&TC in IET-DAVV?

SM
Sukalyan Majhi Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, DAVV

Some of the facts are listed below to help you understand which one is better in taking admission.

  1. SGSITS has its brand name. No one even knows about the institute about IET-DAVV; generally, the students who are staying outside of Madhya Pradesh.
  2. There are not enough differences in the syllabus of these two institutes. And for this reason, you have to study yourself to perform better.
  3. If you want to pursue higher studies, then seats are limited in the good colleges for instrumentation. For this reason, the candidate number is also less. Thus, you have a preference to alter your stream for higher studies. One of my friends has told me that many people studied very hard and appeared in GATE although they have studied opted EI in B.Tech.
  4. If you are looking for placement, then DAVV is the best. This institute always has better placement statistics than the other one that is SGSITS. My friend also told me that in DAVV, most of the students from E&TC, despite EI, are preferred by the recruitment companies.

In the following, the placement statistics of these two institutes are highlighted.

Criteria

SGSITS

IET-DAVV

Highest CTC

33-32 LPA

32 LPA

Lowest CTC

11 LPA

12-14 LPA

Average CTC

15-16 LPA

19.9 LPA

Placement Statistics

90%

If you have not so many ideas about the stream and do not aware of the institutional tag; then it is better to choose E&TC in DAVV. Besides, if you are considering these two institutes, then both are quite similar in terms of academics. However, E&TC also has many other fields in the future, so that the job opportunity might be expanded. Hence, it will be best to go for E&TC over EI.

ECE has more job opportunities than Mechanical Engineering. After completing Mechanical Engineering, you will get jobs in PSUs, in government organizations.

  • If you are looking for a job after B.Tech or M.Tech then ECE will be a good option for you.
  • But if you want to pursue higher studies and looking to go into a research field then choose according to your interest.

Category NIT Jamshedpur ECE NIT Calicut Mechanical

Which is better: IIT Guwahati mathematics and computing or ECE?

PP
Pranay Pednekar Posted On : May 4th, 2023
Studied at IIT Guwahati

I am assuming you have no specific interests and are looking for a branch that offers good job opportunities. In that case, Maths and Computing at IIT Guwahati is best. With the unique blend of Mathematical concepts and CS concepts, this program has become one of the most coveted ones only second to CSE. Indeed, MnC has an immense workload and is considered difficult but so is ECE. However, if you are not interested in Maths at all, and are a research enthusiast, Electronics is better than MnC. Electronics will give you an opportunity to explore both IT and hardware industries. However, it’s very difficult to secure internships in CE than MnC and this might demotivate you a bit.

Concludingly I would like to comment that MnC is a good option in the short run while ECE will prove to be beneficial in the long run.

How is the ECE department, placements and opportunities in IET Lucknow?

IG
Ishani Gupta Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

The ECE department at IET Lucknow is not very impressive for pursuing higher education.

  • Sessions are scheduled quite casually and are very rare.
  • The placement it offers is similar to that of the other institutes which are affiliated with AKTU.
  • Mass recruiters like TCS are among the only few good options available for candidates.
  • IET is a Government Institute and hence the fee charged from candidates is lesser than that of Private institutions.
  • The institute is quite popular among the student communities in the state of UP.

You can check out the details of the placement of the institute in the table down below:

Categories ECE at IET Lucknow
Course Fee 3.44 lakhs
Highest CTC 25 LPA
Average CTC 12-16 LPA
Lowest CTC 5 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, DE Shaw, Barclays, Code Nation, etc.

I would suggest that you go for ECE at IET and then start preparing for competitive examinations and opt for GATE or CAT. For more details about the institute, do navigate through the official website of the college.

What are the reasons that IIIT-Hyderabad ECE is not as good as its CSE?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : July 31st, 2023

The question is highly illogical as no branches are comparable, rather it’s a matter of preferences. You can say that placements of CSE are better than ECE but to say that to the entire branch would be making a false claim.

In any engineering institute you will find the average packages of the CSE branch higher than other branches but does this mean the other branches are not as good? The answer is no. The placements are directly affected by the demand in industry and it has nothing to do with the credibility of the branch. If you are genuinely interested in ECE, then CSE won’t be a good choice for you irrespective of how lucrative the package you are offered. So it’s a subjective matter.

People tend to adopt the sheep mentality and flock to CSE just because everyone is doing so and fail to analyze their own passions and interests. The increasing size of packages and international offers has resulted in a preconceived notion that CSE is better. In reality, both ECE and CSE branches are equally good with equally good opportunities, faculties, and education.

So it’s advisable to make the decision without any preconceived notions.

Is electronics and computers a good option at Thapar University?

AA
Ahelita Anand Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my friends had been in the very first batch of B.E Electronics and Computer branch. I might be able to share some facts about the college and the course which can be useful.

  • The batch size consists of 68 students.
  • The placement records were pretty good.
  • This branch was considered for recruitment in the core companies of both ECE and CS.
  • Students were placed by some of the top recruiting core CS companies that include D.E Shaw, Microsoft, Walmart, Samsung, Wipro as well core Electronics companies such as NXP, Mentor Graphics, etc.
  • The average placement package for the first batch was 7 LPA while the highest was 16 LPA for this branch.
  • The course curriculum of this branch includes the core subjects from both ECE and CS branches.
  • The student gets a sneak peek at the common subjects required for the placement criteria for the core CS as well as ECE branches.

If the students are not a big fan of coding cultures that the CS branch usually offers nor good at ECE setups then they would not regret getting into this branch. In the end, the placement will only be availed by the students with their hard work and efforts.

Is it worth leaving VIT IT for IIIT Guwahati ECE?

SM
Shalini Mitra Posted On : May 6th, 2021
Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati

If you think that you can work under technical giants later in years of study, then you should go for VIT. However, if you want to pursue your field of interest, and choose a likewise job scenario, then undoubtedly, you should enroll in IIIT Guwahati.

There are various differences between both the institutes for B.Tech ECE. Let’s walk through most of them:

Approaches of VIT:

  • VIT has a gigantic campus and is considered top-notch by students. You will most definitely enjoy your four years course period in VIT.
  • VIT, other than that, has balanced boys: girls ratio.
  • VIT is known to secure you a corporate job sooner than IIITG. This is seen at least in the current scheme.

The following table shows the placement statistics of both institutions:

Particulars

IT at VIT

ECE at IIITG

Highest Salary

44 LPA

12 LPA

Average Salary

6.39 LPA

8.1 LPA

Total Job offers

3517

11

Approaches of IIITG:

  • IIIT Guwahati is comparatively a very new college.
  • The placement record is not 100%. If you however have the necessary abilities, it is only then that you will get placed. There are unfortunately no mass recruiters here, unlike VIT.
  • IIITG is renowned to motivate you to think and implement your theories in places not most people have thought of before. VIT clearly missed out on it.
  • You will find that the questions are seldom asked in IIITG examinations. In a nutshell, you are likely to find not any repeated questions in any course throughout the B.Tech course, unlike of course VIT.
  • IIITG tremendously focuses on the research sectors.

VIT is a reputed institute that is known to get you a job in the placement. If you’re willing to enter the job sector soon, join VIT.

What is the management fee for an ECE at Malla Reddy?

UG
Udita Goswami Posted On : July 5th, 2021
B.Tech Master's Programs, Malla Reddy College of Engineering and Technology (2019)

One of my friends is an alumnus of Malla Reddy. He passed out recently and according to him the management fees for ECE were 8 lakhs.

He advises joining Malla Reddy college if you are really passionate about engineering, because the image of doing engineering that is imprinted on our mind from society, media and movies is not 100% true. Engineering days are not as happy or relaxed as it is portrayed. If you have a good percentage till 4th year you will be placed in IT companies for tech support, system management, or admin-related posts and if you are not placed then they will send you to amazon or uber BPO jobs interviews in college.

So, the institute if you are genuinely interested in engineering. As you can simply get placed in tech support jobs in Dell, Amazon, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, etc. through walk-in interviews. So, don’t waste your parent’s money or your precious 4 years unless you are sure.
