MBA Marketing & Finance, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2017)

MBF (Master's in Business Finance) is a course under the Xavier School of Commerce (XSC). It is important to note that XIMB and XSC are separate schools coming under the umbrella of Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XU). Some key highlights related to this course are

  • MBF is a specialized program spread over a 2-year period divided into 4 semesters
  • The course curriculum has 84 credits of classroom instruction and other credit components including two sets of elective specializations - "Banking and Insurance", and "Finance"
  • Additionally, the program requires project work carrying 10 credits
  • It covers immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.
  • In the first two semesters, students get inputs on the basic areas such as Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Corporate Laws, Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, MIS, Quantitative Techniques, and many more. These core courses set the foundation for more advanced courses such as Project Planning, Appraisal and Finance, Behavioral Finance, Financial Modeling, Business Analytics, Corporate Tax Planning, and so on.
  • In the fourth-semester students will be required to opt for the electives of their choice. Currently, two sets of elective specializations are ‘Banking and Insurance’, and ‘Finance’, out of which each student will have to select one.
  • While the program covers a wide range of courses, 'finance’ remains the main focus area.
  • The knowledge base of the students also gets further strengthened by summer projects, immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.
  • There are various leadership talks and conclaves organized by InfinX, the functional committee of the MBF program

The course is a good option for the qualitative development of an individual, and details regarding placements and internships can be checked from the official website.

What is your review of Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), Bhubaneswar? Is it worth doing an MBA from this institute? What are its placements like?

SG
Santanu Ganguli Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA in Mark, Fin and Sys Business Management, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2019)

My friend was a student at XIMB and all the points mentioned below are based on his experience at XIMB.

  • Location: Located at the center of the city, no commute difficulties are posed and you can access all off-campus facilities with ease. But the new campus is a bit far from the city and is bigger. Both campuses have world-class facilities.
  • Campus Life: Life at XIMB is rigorous and lively and you will always be occupied with classes, committee elections, quizzes, case study competitions, cultural events, and guest lectures. But this rigor will help you learn time management. Nightlife on campus is exciting as a number of exciting things take place at night
  • Friendships: Every good college experience requires a good group of friends without which your survival might become more difficult. This friendship will stay with you throughout the year.
  • Hostel: The hostel life is thrilling and you will develop an affinity for your Hostel and your Hostel Block will become your pride and identity.
  • Faculty: The faculty reside within the campus and are some of the best in the country.
  • Case Study Competitions: You can participate in all the major case study competitions to portray your business problem-solving skills.
  • Xpressions: This event is in the limelight of the Institute as it showcases what XIMB actually is. The event welcomes some of the top celebrities and gives an exciting experience.
  • Placements: Placements are at level with the top 20 colleges. XIMB maintains a decent placement record over years. Recently, the institute released its 2022 placement report. According to the report, the highest salary, average salary & median salary increased by nearly 34.2%, 15.78% & 17.9% respectively as compared to the previous year. The highest salary offered was INR 32.21 LPA & average salary stood at INR 17.54 LPA. The median salary offered was INR 17.10 LPA.

Life at XIMB will give you an abundance of memories and knowledge about yourself, life and competitions. Make the best of those 2 years and try to be involved in every possible activity as you won’t get to relive these days and get back those days again.

How is the information management PGDM program in SPJIMR?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Studied at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR)

SPJIMR Information Management PGDM program is suitable for those who want to shift from technical IT to management and business roles. This unique course is updated annually to keep up with the latest developments in the IT field and is on par with the best B-schools around the world.

The faculty at SPJIMR are highly dedicated and valued for their academic excellence and business backgrounds. In addition to classroom courses, IM students learn from industry visits, guest lectures from corporate gurus and CXOs, and live projects designed to facilitate the use of theory in practice.

At SPJIMR, peer learning is highly effective, and there is a collaborative culture in place. Students are selected based on merit, and the competition is stiff due to the high quality of peers. Most IM students come with expertise in various domains, and they work together as a team on activities such as the Cross Course Project, which is a platform to piece together all learnings from the IM coursework and consult on a real IT business challenge.

The placement opportunities available in the IM specialization are regarded as a valuable benefit, and SPJIMR attracts top-tier firms like Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, HCL, GE, Make My Trip, Capgemini, Cognizant Business Consulting, Deloitte, and many more. The roles open for the IM area include IT consulting, Business Development, Product Management, and General Management in IT companies and e-Commerce majors, and Corporate IT roles (CIO growth path) in IT user companies. The advantage of the IM specialization is that both you and the firms find yourselves in a win-win situation when it comes to mapping skills versus roles.

Which has the best program for rural management, XIMB, IRMA, or the Indian Institute of Rural Management at Jaipur?

VP
Vishal Patil Posted On : March 10th, 2023
Studied MBA in Human Resource Management at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (Graduated 2019)

IRMA seems to have it all - top faculty, great infrastructure, excellent campus, and extensive exposure. It is well known for its specialization in Rural Management and becomes the best choice when it comes to RM aspirants. Before I go on, let me clarify a much common misconception about the Rural Management and Development Sector. The assumptions that the pay in the Development sector is extremely low and IRMA provides no corporate exposure are outright false.

I know a friend who gave up a scholarship at another B School for Rural Management at IRMA. He made this decision despite knowing it will be more hectic because of the 3 field components unlike 1 in the case of other B Schools.

There is an additional social sector course like Rural Society and Polity for instance. The main purpose of these courses is to broaden your tour horizon as IRMA serves the majority of the Indian population living in villages, who have a different set of problems and require a different type of thinking to solve them.

IRMA has 2 camps - pro-market and pro-development that respect each other. Such harmony leads to a better understanding of both pros and cons, and students can initiate a response to an emerging economy.

This field required an emphatic and sensitive attitude with monetary benefits not being the primary goal. The earning capacity is not exactly poor and the placement figures reveal 100% opportunities. Additionally, IRMA’s Social Entrepreneurship Cell is a haven for future entrepreneurs.

IRMA boasts of a rich alumni culture because they take pride in being an IRMAn which was possible after multiple efforts and hard work. The alumni connection ensures constant motivation and advice shared based on real-life experiences.

Overall IRMA offers a roller coaster of experiences you won’t forget in your entire life.

How is PGDM from IMS Noida?

AH
Aziz Hamid Posted On : March 10th, 2023
MBA Master of Business Administration Degrees & Finance, Aditya Institute of Management Studies and Research

According to the general opinion, IMS Ghaziabad is better than IMS Noida. This opinion seems to be right as IMS Noida has a very poor placement scenario with many unplaced students. I will suggest you keep IMS Noida as the last option and target better colleges provided that you have a MAT score of 96+. The two options you can consider before finally choosing IMS Noida are

  • IPE PGDM Banking and Finance
  • BIMM Pune

Most of the time the figures revealed online are misleading and inflated solely for advertisement. You can contact the alumni, mention your area of interest in the job and then enquire about

  • Job profile security
  • Bulk hire, and fire
  • In hand salary

With relative knowledge about these, you might get a more honest picture. The last option is to re-attempt MAT and score higher than before so that you can target top tier 1 like Great Lakes, SIMSREE, XIME, and BIMTECH Noida which have sound credibility.

How is the BCA course at the School of Information Technology in IMS Noida?

SM
Shiva Mehta Posted On : March 10th, 2023
MBA Finance, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (1996)

The above answer is based on the reviews of my friends who are alumni of IMS Noida and are successful today. It's a very unbiased review and intends no criticism of the institute.

The primary 3 aspects that are the foundation of any college are its students, teachers, and infrastructure. So I will be writing the review based on these aspects only.

Teachers

There is a big difference between being qualified and being a good teacher. While most of the teachers are highly qualified, only a few are good teachers. Some teachers that genuinely care about the students and try their best to bring good results out of their students are

  • Sudhir Sir and Nancy Maam
  • A very practical Maths teacher Pankaj Sir
  • Very emphatic teacher Rashmi Maam
  • Barshma Maam who organizes cultural events.
  • Apart from these gems most of the teachers are full of ego and lack sympathy. The teachers do not motivate startups, athletes, or extracurricular activities and merely involve themselves in robotic teaching. There is no structured pedagogy and teachers are very lethargic. The syllabus is outdated and all this affects placements largely.

Students

Obviously under the guidance and training of such an average college, the quality of students stoops low. Most of them are lazy and just mug up concepts. But there are a few who want to strive hard but the lack of necessary resources does not let them excel.

Infrastructure

  • The computer labs have very old systems and the speed of the internet is extremely poor.
  • The classrooms lack ventilation and there are no microphones for lectures.
  • The wifi facilities are extremely poor and students hardly have open access despite paying fees for the same
  • The toilets are unhygienic and dirty
  • The library has a good collection of books the only drawback being no reminder system for renewal of books

All these points are genuine and not based on any official data.

Which institution is better for MBA in Finance- SPJIMR or IIM- Indore? (For someone who has only 6 months of work experience)

JR
Jyoti Ranjan Posted On : March 10th, 2023
MBA in Finance (college major), S P Jain School of Global Management (Graduated 2019)

Trying to make sure my answer is as objective as possible, I have mentioned the pros of both institutes namely SPJIMR and IIM Indore. The final decision can be made by choosing the one whose benefits appeal to you the most and matches your inclinations.

SPJIMR

  • Small batch size of 250-300 students makes it possible to develop good bonding between peers. There is almost a family-like feeling. The small batch size also reduces the level of competition and increases proximity to faculty
  • The average package was pretty decent this year and stood at INR 26.06 LPA
  • A major USP of SPJIMR is its Rural internship called DOCC and GFT(global fast track program). These offer a unique experience of rural India as well as the foreign market in the same year.
  • Another distinguishing factor of SPJIMR is the minors offered n other specializations like Analytics, Consulting, etc. This is like a secondary specialization for backup in the future.
  • The culture at SPJIMR is friendly mainly because of the unique selection process

IIM Indore

  • The main USP is the IIM Tag
  • Huge batch size resulting in a larger stronger alumni base
  • You do not have to choose a specialization at the time of admissions. Specializations are chosen after a year and still, the degree awarded is that of a General MBA only. So if you are not sure of your specialization and want to explore various aspects of Management, then IIM Indore is a better option for you.
