Which is better, the NIT Calicut or the NSIT\DTU?

AB

My friend also got to choose among NIT Calicut, NSIT (NSUT) and DTU last year. He decided to go for NSUT. NSUT has the best placement record out of the three, lagging behind only the top IITs (IIT Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur, Madras, Kharagpur) and BITS Pilani. NSUT is located in the national capital which adds to its list of advantages.

Here is a detailed 2022 placement record for B.Tech at NSUT-

Particulars

B.Tech 2022 Placements

Number of graduating students

896

Number of students placed

826

Median package

INR 16 LPA

However, do consider the branch that you will be getting at each. CSE is the most preferred branch among Engineering students and recruiters at present.

Thus, based on your personal preferences and the branch offered at each, choose between NIT Calicut, NSUT and DTU. However, personally, I would recommend NSUT if you get a good branch in it.

How do NSIT and DTU campus compare?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 6th, 2023

DTU has a better campus than NSIT in terms of infrastructure and facilities. DTU campus is well-maintained and even the unused areas are treated as parks and are great spots for taking a break. NSIT has a lot of unused land that is left untamed and resembles a jungle bringing down the overall appearance of the campus. NSIT also is home to insects and snakes which makes the campus environment unsafe.

DTU has a huge auditorium that can house 400+ people while NSIT auditorium is pretty small. DTU has a massive OAT(Open-air theatre) and also a mini-OAT. The classrooms in DTU are designed in an elevated style and most classrooms are fully air-conditioned. DTU canteen is bigger than NSIT's although both colleges have Amul shops. NSIT has poor sports facilities.DTU is home to a huge batch and thus has huge academic blocks although the accommodation facilities are highly lacking.

Overall DTU campus is more appealing and well-maintained than the NSIT campus and also enjoys better connectivity.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at NSIT?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

As a senior student at NSIT Delhi, here are my tips for freshers-

  1. Maintain a decent attendance, at least fulfill the minimum requirement.
  2. DO NOT bring chits or electronic calculators to the exam hall. During every exam, there is a visit by the Examination Authorities. If you are caught with any kind of cheating material, you will receive a backlog. You can’t reason with them after being caught.
  3. Do work in NSUT Delhi fests at least once. The seniors come around asking for volunteers. This is a good opportunity to get acquainted with your seniors and peers.
  4. Make good connections with your seniors. They will help you with everything, like -Which companies visit the campus for placements, How much percentage to maintain, Which teacher to go to after seeking help, etc.
  5. Some teachers are known for marking papers randomly, regardless of what you write.
  6. For a tech job in the IT industry, choose between Development and Competitive coding and get into one of these with seriousness during your second or third year. But if you don’t want expertise in either and simply wish for a job, maintain a good percentage and study algorithms from GFG or wherever you deem fit.
  7. Join college societies at NSUT Delhi to connect with your seniors.
  8. For good food options, go to Dwarka Sector-12 Food Court. You can also go to the in-house Mccain and JC.
  9. Maintain a good percentage. 75%+ will allow you to sit for all the companies during campus placements.
  10. Do take the hostel even if you are a local student. This will help you during the exam season.

Other than this, I would suggest you make the most out of your time at NSUT Delhi as this is an amazing place.

Which should should I choose to pursue computer science: DTU, NSIT, IIIT Delhi, IIIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahbad, and NITs except Trichy, Warangal, or Suratkal?

We need to consider a number of factors before choosing one college from DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahabad, and NITs.

  • Quality of education: In terms of academics, IIIT Delhi serves the best. The teachers are genuinely interested in teaching and encouraging students to research work. In DTU and NSUT students are expected to cope with the curriculum on their own.
  • Campus life: DTU offers the best resources and campus life to its students followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi
  • Peer group: You will find the best peer group that is passionate about CS at IIIT Delhi and NSUT.
  • Placements: This aspect is quite arguable because there is the general scenario as well as the statistics to consider. Generally, DTU fares better than NSUT and IIIT Delhi but if you look at the statistics, IIIT Delhi is the best among these colleges followed by NSUT and DTU.
  • Brand Name and Alumni: In this aspect, DTU is the clear winner.
  • Research Culture : IIIT Delhi has more faculty that are inclined towards research. The overall ambiance is conducive to cutting-edge research and students have to do research as a part of the curriculum. IIIT Delhi is followed by NSUT and DTU.
  • Higher Studies: IIIT Delhi has a CGPA system while NSUT and DTU have a percentage system. A CGPA of 8.75-9 is considered pretty good while even a percentage of 79% is not. So IIIT Delhi students face a certain advantage during shortlisting. Additionally, their research work and skills add to their overall profile and increase their chances of admission to top universities.

Overall, the best option for you is IIIT Delhi considering the above aspects.

Did you encounter any good teachers in NSIT and if yes, what did you like about them?

SS
Savi Sharma Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

I am an alumnus of the ICE department at NSUT Delhi. These teachers taught me back then and I feel blessed to have studied under them-

  1. Dr. B.P. Singh - Electrical Machines. He was an approachable teacher and a very grounded person in spite of his achievements in academia. He was genuinely interested in teaching.
  2. Dr. J.R.P. Gupta - Instrumentation. He was a kind and approachable teacher. He possessed a lot of knowledge and genuinely cared for his students.
  3. Dr. S.K. Jha - Manufacturing Process. His subject was quite boring but sir made every effort while teaching it.
  4. Sh. K.P.S. Rana - Instrumentation. Sir was very jovial while teaching, but as serious about research work and projects. He had a great personality and taught in an interesting manner.
  5. Sh. Sanjay Gupta- Mechanics. Sir had a cool personality and taught well.
  6. Sh. Anand Gupta- Computer Graphics. Sir took his labs and classes quite seriously. He taught really well and expected his students to use their thinking abilities in the lab.
  7. Dr. Tarun Kr. Rawat - Linear Integrated Circuits. Sir took a good 20-30 minutes to explain the entire experiment to his students without assuming that they already knew everything about the same.
  8. Ms. Tanushree Choudhary- English. Ma’am made every effort to improve the student's language skills.
  9. Dr. Vijay Gupta- Mathematics. He was a kind person and a good teacher.

I don’t know how well they are doing, and if they are still teaching at NSUT Delhi. However, I have learned a lot from these teachers and feel highly indebted to them for having taught me during my years at NSUT Delhi.

What is the average package for MPAE at NSIT?

HR
Harsh Rawat Posted On : August 22nd, 2023
B.E Computer Science Engineering, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology

MPAE is a decent branch with promising scenarios in terms of job opportunities and curriculum. However, it’s not right to judge its credibility based on its average package. Here are some points regarding the placements here

  • MPAE students receive packages of INR 40 LP from Schlumberger.
  • Some well-known automobile companies like Toyota, Maruti, Hero, and Honda visit campus for placements.
  • Usually the average for this branch hovers around INR 8-9 LPA but only the deserving students bag such packages.

MPAE has better research opportunities than placements and its curriculum is very intriguing. Most students consider higher studies from foreign universities as a preferable option.

However, ever since Mechanical Engineering has been started, the MPAE placements have faced a setback as the core companies are fewer and prefer mechanical students to MPAE students. So choose MPAE only if you are genuinely passionate about mechanics.

Should I take ICE at NSIT?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

As far as ICE is concerned, it is a masters’ level subject in the domain of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Its syllabus is a hybrid of COE and ECE curriculums. Most core electronics companies are open to ICE students during their placements. ECE students are given a slight preference, but if you are skilled enough, you need not worry. For a master’s in this domain, you will have to put in a lot of effort in your studies.

Most of the ICE students do multiple projects under ECE professors and grab the same (even better at times) opportunities and learning as their ECE counterparts.

If you are planning for a branch change later on, don’t completely rely on it. Branch change will depend upon your rank and the number of people who would try for that branch. If you are passionate about a particular branch, say for instance ECE, I would suggest you choose some other good college for the same. You can also choose the second best branch at NSUT Delhi as per your preference.

But if you are really interested in ICE, you should definitely choose this branch at NSUT Delhi without hesitation.

What should one do while at NSIT?

SA
Simran Arora Posted On : August 22nd, 2023
Studied CS from NSIT (2019)

Clearing JEE and getting into college is not enough. One needs to strive throughout the 4 years to make the time spent worth it. Here is a list of things one should do while at NSUT

  • Always dream big and don’t settle for less. Obviously, the packages will depend on your branch, and branches like ICE, MPAE or BT won’t receive very high packages. But that does not mean you cannot aim high.
  • No matter what anyone says, always focus on your studies and prioritize academics over fun. Good grades will open multiple opportunities not only in placements but also in higher studies, especially MS and MBA.
  • If you have an interest in programming, then learn the skills and become proficient in it.
  • Socialize as much as you can. The friends and networks you build today will bear fruit tomorrow.
  • Explore your non-academic interests and pursue them. For instance, pick up a hobby and carry it on till the end.

Lastly, enjoy your college life to the fullest as these days are never coming back!

Why should I take IIIT Delhi over DTU and NSIT?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : October 5th, 2023

One simple yet concrete reason to choose IIIT Delhi over DTU or NSIT is the quality of education it offers. IIIT Delhi is known to have some of the most highly experienced faculty, top-notch infrastructure, and a well-updated curriculum. Many students from other colleges, even IITs, often come to IIIT Delhi for internships.

As far as placements are concerned, one must understand that getting a job after 4 years is important but not more than a successful long-term career. That being said, the quality of education affects your long-term career largely. You may or may not get placed in a big MNC if you join IIIT Delhi, but in the long run, you will certainly become successful. Also, the statistics show that NSIT has better placements than IIIT Delhi but in reality, these figures are inflated because of one or two international packages.

So, it’s best to focus only on the quality of education, and you will see how a long-term successful career unfolds itself before you.

Is it worth it to drop a year for IIT or the BITs if you are in DTU/NSIT?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 23rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

It is a very personal choice. However, I can tell you about my brother’s case. He got into NSUT Delhi and decided to take a drop for the IITs. When he looks back at his decision, he regrets it a lot. It takes a toll on your physical and mental health when you obsess so much about something. My brother doesn’t regret that his Engineering studies got delayed by a year. What bothers him is how he neglected his physical and mental health, broke his connection with friends, and rarely went out, all because he wanted to get into the IITs.

Even after that, he couldn't get into the IITs and decided to go for ECE at NSUT Delhi. His mental state resulted in poor academic performance during the first two years of his Engineering life. Eventually, he got over it and worked hard during the remaining years of his B.Tech.

DTU/NSIT are pretty good colleges and offer students multiple opportunities and good placements. If you work hard, you can do great even without an IIT/BITS tag. According to my brother, no institution is worth the mental toll that a drop year takes on you.
