At ISB, do you get to select the campus between Hyderabad and Mohali?

YA
Yash Arora Posted On : February 14th, 2023
MBA in Business, Indian School of Business (Graduated 2018)

When applying to ISB, you will not have the option to choose between the campuses in Hyderabad or Mohali. Instead, you will have the opportunity to indicate your campus preference during the application process, but it should be noted that ISB may or may not take this into consideration. This is done in order to maintain equality between the two campuses so that neither campus students feel like they are at a disadvantage.

While in rare cases, ISB may take your specific location preference into consideration, it is highly unlikely. It should be noted that even in cases where requests for campus change have been made for reasons such as family or health, ISB has denied such requests. This is a reflection of the diverse student body that ISB attracts.

How long does it take to repay a loan of around 35 lakhs after doing a PGP from ISB Hyderabad/Mohali? Is it worth it?

SR

To calculate the approximate time it will take to repay a loan of around 35 lakhs after doing a PGP from ISB Hyderabad or Mohali, let’s assume some numbers. That will make the calculation easy to understand.

Rate of Interest: 9.50%

Term of the moratorium: Duration of the course where you just pay the interest.

Loan repayment tenure: 7 years post moratorium period

EMI: Rs. 57,203.93

An EMI of INR 57,203.93 means a monthly salary of around INR 150000 or an annual package of INR 27 Lakhs is required. If you are confident that you will get placed with a similar package and can repay the loan easily go for it. One relevant thing you should consider is whether the knowledge you gained throughout the course is worth it afterward or not. I think only 35-40% of one’s salary should be used in repaying the loan. But that does not seem to be the case here. So in my opinion pursuing a higher education course won’t necessarily benefit you. In contrast, it may become a major issue due to the repayment of loans.

ISB has two campuses - one in Hyderabad and the other in Mohali. A selection of candidates based on the eligibility criteria set by its Admissions Committee every year. If this question is for ISB Hyderabad’s MBA program then the following criteria need to be fulfilled before applying:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline.
  • GMAT score of 650+
  • At least 24 months of full-time work experience.
  • TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score (only if the language of the undergraduate study level is not English)

To avoid rejection, make sure all the criteria are fulfilled. Also, you can apply for it through EEO or YLP.

  • EEO(Early entry option): After your graduation and before acquiring any work experience. Criteria for the EEO are the same as the general criteria, the only difference is that in EEO the work experience of the candidate can be less than 24 months.
  • YLP (Young leadership program): After your 12th standard or high school before your graduation and without any work experience.

ISB guarantees placements to up to 90% of the students with an average package of 28-29 LPA. They have tied up with international universities like Kellogg and Wharton school of business for international faculties and guest lectures. The infrastructure and facilities at ISB are commendable. Does a year gap post 4 years of work experience affect the chances to get into ISB Hyderabad drastically?

AS
Anubhuti Shekhar Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Student, ISB PGP Class of 2017

The Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad evaluates each application based on merit, rather than adhering to a strict minimum or maximum criteria for years of work experience. Freshers may apply through the Young Leaders Program (YLP) or the early admission option. A break in one's career, as long as it can be justified, is acceptable. The quality of work experience, rather than the number of years, is what counts.

Instead of worrying about any career gaps, focus on highlighting the relevant aspects of your profile. If the admissions team finds your application compelling, they may inquire about career gaps, but only after they have been initially impressed with your application.

Many people choose to enroll in the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad due to its reputation and the success of its alumni. In fact, it has been recognized by Forbes and The Economist as a top MBA program in the world, an accomplishment that ISB has not yet achieved. Additionally, SP Jain Global has a long history of providing quality education and producing talented professionals. How are the placement opportunities for Chartered Accountants/ Finance Professionals at ISB (PGP) Hyderabad?

AT
Animesh Tripathi Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Studied at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad

It is advised that you not rely on overly optimistic answers from admission consultants, enthusiastic alumni, or overpaid faculty regarding the opportunities for Chartered Accountants/ Finance Professionals at (ISB (PGP) Hyderabad.

  • Placements: Finance jobs are considered to include investment banking, private equity, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, financial planning and analysis, equity research, credit rating, asset management, and tax and advisory services (by Big 4).
  • Faculty: The visiting faculty at the Mohali campus is highly engaged and humble, but the domestic faculty is deemed by a lot of students as incapable and arrogant, with one professor even coming to class drunk.
  • Curriculum: The finance curriculum at ISB is well-designed and provided enough material and case studies to students. There are students who also take electives in Data Analytics in Finance and Introduction to FinTech and found the quality of these courses to be good.

It is up to you to decide whom to believe. The information given is simply to provide you with an honest and factual account of the finance program at ISB Hyderabad and to caution anyone considering finance as a career path to not rely on overly optimistic or sugar-coated answers.

Why does ISB Hyderabad charge twice as much as that of IIM even though it's a one-year program?

GR
Gourav Raj Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Former Head of Admissions at Indian School of Business (2004–2011)

The cost of obtaining a high-quality management education is reflective of the fees charged by institutions like the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad. It is important to note that the IIMs have traditionally been heavily subsidized, which has contributed to the difference in cost between ISB Hyderabad and the IIMs. However, this gap is gradually decreasing. It is expected that in the near future, the IIMs will also start charging fees that are comparable to or even higher than those at ISB.

It's worth considering that ISB Hyderabad invests heavily in hiring foreign faculty and engaging in international quality research work, which contributes to the overall cost of education. Additionally, many of the processes at ISB, such as placements, are driven by staff rather than faculty, which also contributes to the higher fees.

What is the best coaching for GMAT for ISB in Hyderabad?

HS
Harleen Sethi Posted On : February 14th, 2023
Ex-BCG/Dalberg | Ex-Government of India | Entrepreneur

To be considered for admission to ISB, you will need to take the GMAT and submit a strong application and perform well in interviews. To prepare for the GMAT, it is recommended to not join an end-to-end offline GMAT class, as most of these are not effective. Instead, consider joining a specialized class, such as an online GMAT verbal class, if you are struggling with that particular section. It is also important to work with a tutor who has a GMAT score in the 99th percentile. At an advanced stage, consider hiring a private tutor to help you improve your score by 20-30 points.

In terms of application and interview coaching, it is recommended to speak directly with the consultant you will be working with and ask about their qualifications, including the pedigree of their MBA school and their work experience. It is also important to not rely solely on testimonials on a company's website and to ask the consultant how they will add value to your profile. Use your own judgment to determine if the consultant can be trusted.

I got selected for the MBA programs at ISB Hyderabad and Cranfield University. Regardless of the cost which should I choose and why?

When making a decision between ISB and Cranfield, it is important to consider several factors, such as cost, faculty, industry reputation, alumni network, location, and study method. However, ultimately, the best MBA program for any individual depends on their individual goals and preferences.

To make a decision, it is recommended to compare the two schools across at least four criteria:

  1. Curriculum: Consider whether the program will teach the skills and knowledge you want to acquire and whether it is up-to-date and relevant to your goals.
  2. Primary learning opportunity: Evaluate the quality of the teachers, the methodology used, the research centers, and the quality of the student body.
  3. Infrastructure: Consider the resources available, such as the library, special labs, IT network, and digital content.
  4. Track record: Look at the school's track record in terms of placements, specifically in the industry or field you want to pursue after your MBA.

This may not be the best formula at all times, but it can serve as an example of the things you should keep in mind when deciding on a business school. It can be helpful to create a similar list of your own priorities when making your decision.
