Are ECE students allowed to sit in the placements of CS students at Nirma University?

PN
Payal Narula Posted On : July 8th, 2021
B. Tech Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University (2019)

Although ECE students are allowed to sit in the placement drives of most computer science companies, very few among them end up getting a job offer from those companies in Nirma University. The points below give proper reasons supporting the cause, as evident from most reviews related to the same.

  • Companies hiring from CSE have a coding round in their selection process, just after the aptitude round. In this round, most students in ECE are eliminated as they are not that much trained in programming or coding up to that competitive level.
  • Even if an ECE student makes it to the personal interview rounds, recruiters have certain biases inherent in them.
  • Some of them consider ECE students to be less productive because of not having a core computer science background. But, this factor is subjective to some companies only, and not all.

These two factors play the role of a barrier for the ECE students to not end up in good computer science jobs and so, very few students from the department are placed in those companies.

Which college is better for a BDes course (visual communication), Nirma University or Srishti School of Design?

SD

Design courses are relatively new at Nirma University. Quite naturally, you will have some of the inexperienced faculty. With this, everything comes down to how eventually, there is nothing you can learn from here.

When it comes to Srishti School of Design, it is still better as it is an old and quite a reputed institute. It becomes more reliable in front of the masses' perception. However, the school has been sold off to Manipal University. It is now offering degree programs but in this process, course pattern along with the reputed faculty has been put at stake. They are not as well known as they used to be.

You can instead opt for WUD Sonipat and MIT Pune as both of them are good in terms of quality education. Trust me and look into these institutes as well. Make sure eventually your decision is an informed one.

BA LLB at Nirma University 2023

Commonly, Nirma University offers various undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degree) and postgraduate (Master’s Degree) programs in a couple of fields, including engineering, law, and management as well. Here is how you can expect your admission procedure to process,

  • The 5 years integrated Law (UG) program can only be accessed if you have sat for the CLAT examination.
  • The 5-year integrated Management (UG) Program can be accessed if only you have sat for the UGAT examination.
  • Lastly, for MBA, you are considered admissible through your CAT scores.
  • In terms of engineering, there are 2 possible methods to further apply for the same, namely,
    • On the basis of both your merit and seat availability, you are likely to obtain admission at Nirma University. Your merit score is usually determined on the basis of whether or not you have obtained marks that are 50% in JEE Mains and 50% in Boards or above.
    • If you are anyhow from Gujarat, then you can opt to apply in the ACPC category, where the merits are further accepted on the basis of scores achieved in both GUJCET and boards.

It is suggested that you keep in pace with the latest cut-off trends followed by the university.

Many of my friends are alumni of the Institute of Management, Nirma University, and also many of them are studying at other reputed colleges such as IIMs, IIFT, NMIMS, SIBM, and the likes. So, I am quite aware of the placement situations at these B-schools.

Nirma has been faring better than their peers with many companies of repute lining up for campus placements. Well on a comparison basis, the academic curriculum is at par with the best B-schools in the country with very accomplished faculty taking courses at the Institute. Nirma also offers good infrastructure, campus, etc.

Now, coming to the most important factor, i.e. ROI, Nirma is definitely worth the investment that you make. And if you have decent academics and skills, you will get a good placement through the campus drive.

  • You will not be allowed to participate in the extracurricular activities if you participate then you might lose attendance.
  • They also have a dress code policy.
  • They have jammers installed on the campus because of which you cannot use mobile phones due to lack of internet.
  • They do have a policy of 85% attendance.

My JEE Advanced rank is 13K and I will get an approximate 20K rank in the JEE Mains. Should I join CS in Nirma University or do I have better options?

TR
Tushar Rane Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

You have a lot of better options than Nirma University. My brother is an alumnus of Nirma University and according to his experience, the CS department is good but you can easily get into DAIICT or some of the top NITs with your rank.

You can perform an analysis and decide which NIT is more suitable for Computer Science Engineering. Choose the one which is the most suitable one for your career goals. My advice for you would be to choose your college wisely as you have a pretty good rank. Do not opt for any of the IITs just because of its brand name.

Even if the Computer Science department of an IIT is not so good, you should instead go for a well-reputed NIT. At the end of the day, what matters is the quality of knowledge you obtain and not the name tag of the college you get enrolled in.

Which is best for mechanical engineering, Nirma University or NIT Srinagar or North East NITs?

GS
Gargi Sengupta Posted On : July 6th, 2021
B.Tech Civil Engineering, Institute Of Technology, Nirma University (2020)

NIT Srinagar is the best option among the ones mentioned in the question. But living in Srinagar is challenging. If you can deal with frequent disruption and non-functionality of the institute then you can choose NIT Srinagar.

Nirma University can be a good alternative too. It is one of the best engineering colleges in Gujarat as well as India. As it is located on the Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad highway, many reputed MNCs visit the campus. Nirma has a 120-acre campus. It offers good infrastructure. Their placement record is also quite impressive. Almost 90% of students get placed in reputed companies. The only disadvantage of choosing Nirma is that they don’t offer a hostel.

In North-East, you can go with Agartala or Silchar.
