The general answer would be no, it’s not recommended you join the textile branch at NIT Jalandhar. However, you can join it under certain scenarios like:
If you have plans of moving abroad and pursuing it further. Because in India there is little scope for this course.
If you are planning to change your branch after a year by internal sliding. But for this, you should get an excellent CGPA (above 9).
If you plan to sit for CAT or UPSC then the branch does not really matter.
If you don’t want to drop out.
In every other case, I’d recommend you join a lower-ranked NIT but in a better branch than textile. Don’t just go for rankings. The branch is also crucial.
NIT Jalandhar has two hostels
Hostel 1- First-year students
Hostel 2- Second-year students
Hostel 1- Some of its features are:
Decent infrastructure
Good lawn.
Washing machines
The mess food is above average
TV room and a TT table
Hostel 2- It has all the similar facilities. The only distinguishing feature between the two is that
For internet, Hostel 1 has no LAN and Wi-Fi facilities but Hostel 2 does.
Rather than comparing the colleges, it’s better you identify your area of interest. Your own perspective gets to decide the college best suited for you. My friend is an IIT Ropar Electrical Engineering pass-out. She made the decision after considering the following aspects:
Overall Development: IIT Ropar is a student-run college. The students here are the fuel driving the college. Most of the activities from the orientation of new students to the mentorship of juniors during placements are handled by the students themselves. These opportunities help them identify their own true self and capabilities. They just don’t grow academically but also as a whole.
Interdisciplinary Learning: IIT Ropar promotes interdisciplinary learning. In fact, many EE students take up CS courses as electives and end up with CS jobs.
Brand Name: No matter how much one devalues this aspect it is indispensable. The IIT tag you will carry throughout your life will help you get admission to higher education and also jobs.
Crowd: The crowd at IIT is one of excellence. Everyone is ambitious and here to achieve great heights. These peer groups become a source of constant inspiration.
Alumni Association of IIT: This plays a significant role in developing and guiding placement drives at IIT Ropar. It offers mentorship to students and works with placement cells to ensure the best placements.
You can consider the same factors and compare the other two colleges. But I think IIT cannot be compared to just any college.
In my opinion, NIT Kurukshetra is better than NIT Jalandhar. Some strong points that support my opinion are:
The new director at NIT Kurukshetra has brought about a spike in the rankings of the institute. Reputed firms visit the campus for placements.
Before the reign of the new director, ECE from NIT Kurukshetra was considered a difficult task. But now things have changed for the better. You can pass your exams by studying hard and scoring well. The results are no more unpredictable.
The infrastructure is top notch and the labs are well-equipped with costly software. If you are motivated enough you can develop good skills here.
A major shortcoming of this NIT is its faculty. Some professors are really good while some even lack the basics. You might get frustrated but remember you need to keep yourself motivated to succeed.
The choice mainly depends on the individual as both disciplines are entirely different. Firstly decide if you want a career in the corporate industry or not. Biotechnology is a very good subject with numerous opportunities, but it lags a bit behind in the Indian market.
On the other hand, there is a huge demand for CSE graduates both in India and abroad. Due to the immense popularity of and sudden rise of IT firms, there are many opportunities. You will never have to struggle to get a job in a reputed company.
Placements are better for CSE graduates than Biotechnology graduates. Choose the one that suits your interest.
NIT Jalandhar
NIT Jalandhar has 7 old hostels and one Mega hostel. The Mega hostel has 3 blocks with a capacity of 800 each.
Hostel 1 and 2 are for first-year students only.
Hostel 4 and 5 is for postgraduates
For girls, there are 2 old hostels and one mega hostel
Hostel 6 and 7 have very small rooms but are pretty famous for their food.
Old hostels don’t have Wi-Fi connections but only LAN ports.
The rooms at Mega hostel are bigger and newer. The food is also better here.
The timings rule is more strict at old hostels than at Mega hostels.
IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi has an air-conditioned common mess for both boys and girls.
During vacations, a special mess is run for both boys and girls
It is compulsory for all hostel residents to avail the mess facilities.
Apart from the common mess, there are two cafeterias, one located in the academic building and the other in the common mess building which caters to the needs of the students and faculty.
One can roam freely across the campus at any time of the day.
The hostel has a Common room for people to spend their leisure time. It is decked with a TV, newspapers, and magazines.
Sports and other recreational facilities are available on the upper floors of the dining building.
I hope the above points gave you a clear understanding of the hostel facilities of the two institutes.
NIT Jaipur or MNIT is the best among the options you have mentioned. The reason it is ranked better than others is its location. Being a metro city, Jaipur is a very developed, safe, and well-connected city. It also boasts of good campus life.
I have arranged the colleges in descending order based on the following criteria:
Placements:
Particulars |
MNIT Jaipur |
NIT Kurukshetra |
NIT Silchar |
NIT Jalandhar |
No. of students placed |
497 |
623 |
492 |
340 |
Highest CTC |
INR 43 LPA |
INR 43.75 LPA |
INR 41.86 LPA |
INR 43.5 LPA |
Top Recruiters |
Apple, Golden Sachs |
ICICI, Microsoft |
Amazon India, Goldman Sachs |
Microsoft, Infosys |
So the order for placements is
NIT Kurukshetra>NIT Jalandhar>NIT Jaipur>NIT Silchar
Hostels:
NIT Silchar>(new buildings)NIT Jaipur>NIT Kurukshetra>NIT Jalandhar
Facilities and opportunities:
NIT Jaipur >NIT Silchar >NIT Kurukshetra >NIT Jalandhar
For girls MNIT Jaipur is the best owing to its safe location.
Mechanical Engineering at NIT Jalandhar is not for non-interested students. It’s one of the most feared branches at NIT Jalandhar. But it has a lot of pros that weigh out its cons.
Pros:
Good placement opportunities
Decent exposure
Well equipped labs
Experienced faculty
They prepare you for the hardships unlike other branches
The only major drawback is its very strict faculty. The marking pattern is also very rigid. The level of difficulty is higher than that of JEE Advance. But in the long run, this drawback actually becomes a blessing in disguise. You actually gain a lot of knowledge and opportunities to improve yourself as a whole.
Yes, you can fill out only one college for the choice filling of JoSAA counseling.
No matter how many choices you fill, you will get the seat that is in the top of the priority list
provided that you are eligible for it.
Some IT companies that visit NIT Jalandhar for campus placements are:
Microsoft

Increff
Oracle
Innovaccer
Paytm

NatwestGroup
Cvent India Pvt Ltd
Standard Chartered GBS Pvt Ltd
Acolyte Digital
