Admission at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Goa, and Hyderabad is based on an entrance exam known as BITSAT. Admission is fully based on the results of such exam. College provides almost 100% of the placement. Physics, Chemistry, and Math are necessary subjects to have in the 12th board.
Admission in IIST Shibpur for IT is based on the results of JEE mains. And students are required to have physics, chemistry and math as primary subjects in 10+2. In IIST, IT has the highest number of placements.

Admission process:
BITS Goa/Hyderabad
- The application process is fully online. The application fee is 3,150 INR for males and 2,650 for female applicants.
- Admissions are totally based on the results of the BITSAT entrance.
- Students are also required to complete the 12th board with at least 75%. Physics chemistry and math should be primary subjects in boards.
IIEST Shibpur
- Admission is based on the results of JEE Mains.Students are also required to complete 12th by 75%(For ST, SC and Physically challenged — 65% is required in 10+2).
- The whole application process is online. The application fee is 1500 INR.
- A total of60 seats are available for admission in IT from IIEST Shibpur.

- This Institute has a really good placement rate, almost about 90 to 100%. Top recruiters are Amazon, Microsoft, Aditya Birla, Qualcomm, xilinx, and so on.
- The average salary provided by the colleges is 9to 10 lakhs.
IIEST Shibpur
- Companies like Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Direct, etc, visit campus each year for placements.

Should I prefer BITS-Goa or BITS-Hyderabad for an M.E. in computer science through the BITS HD exam?
For an M.E. in Computer Science, you should prefer BITS Hyderabad. The placements are slightly better for the Hyderabad campus. The city houses a lot of IT and Electronics companies, so it's easier to get good exposure and placements. The recent highlights of BITS Hyderabad placement show the median CTC to be INR 12 LPA. Each year almost 95% of students get placed from the branch.
Is it better to take EE at IIT Bhubaneswar or CS at BITS Hyderabad?
IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019 and BITS Hyderabad ranks 39th in the same category by NIRF 2019.
IIT Bhubaneswar has a dedicated placement cell, a total of 120 students were placed with the CSE department observing placement percentage of 100%. The undergraduate placement recorded 90% offers. The Electrical Engineering department has seen 86% placement in the year 2019. With an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum for big companies like TATA Steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, INTEL technology, etc.

What is the eligibility criteria for the BITS Hyderabad Phd. courses?
To apply for the PhD program at BITS Hyderabad, you need:
- 60% aggregate in M.E./M.Tech./M.Pharm./MBA/M.Phil. or equivalent degree.
- 60% aggregate in M.Sc./B.E./B.Pharm. or equivalent degree.

Should I choose IIT Tirupati mechanical or BITS Hyderabad ECE/EEE? At present, I am getting EEE at BITS, Hyderabad but hoping to get ECE in further literations according to previous cutoff scores.
In the present scenario, EEE is a better choice as compared to Mechanical. Moreover, BITS Hyderabad is better than IIT Tirupati in various aspects.
The average package for B.Tech Mechanical at IIT Tirupati is 12.30 LPA (for 2023 placements, as of now). The average package for B.Tech EEE at BITS Hyderabad goes higher than that. Moreover, some companies may offer less packages to IIT Tirupati graduates in comparison to BITS graduates, for the same role.
BITS Hyderabad has a better campus in comparison to IIT Tirupati. The college culture and life is richer at BITS Hyderabad, and even its coding culture is better. The startup and entrepreneurial culture of BITS Hyderabad is top notch.
The students of BITS Hyderabad and Goa get the BITS Pilani tag on their degrees, without any mention of their actual campuses. On the other hand, the ‘IIT tag’ holds significance only for the students of the 7 old IITs. BITS campuses follow 0% attendance requirement policy and MIT pedagogy, while IIT Tirupati follows a strict attendance criteria and IITR pedagogy).
Based on these factors, and many others, I would suggest you to opt for BITS Hyderabad ECE/EEE over a core branch in any of the 2nd or 3rd gen IITs.
