Which branch is better at Thapar University - mechanical or computer science?

DC
Dhruv Chowdhury Posted On : May 1st, 2023
studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

When deciding on a branch of engineering, it is important to consider the long-term prospects of the field and the policies of the university offering it. Here are some points to keep in mind while choosing a stream:

  • While some may argue that mechanical engineering is better than newer branches, it is important to keep in mind that every branch of engineering has its own set of advantages and opportunities.
  • Thapar University is a private institution that may prioritize profits over student interests. As such, it is important to consider the policies they set in place to make money.
  • Certain branches of engineering, such as mechatronics and robotics, may be kept to earn more profits, as they may charge an extra 10k in addition to other expenses associated with these streams.
  • It is also important to consider the job prospects in your chosen field. Some companies may not offer jobs to those in certain branches of engineering, which can impact your career prospects.
  • It is advisable to do thorough research before choosing a branch of engineering. Speaking with current students and alumni can provide valuable insight into the field and the university.
  • One should also keep in mind that switching branches may be an option. If, like a friend of the speaker, you find that your chosen branch is not a good fit for you, it may be possible to switch to another branch, such as computer engineering.

In conclusion, choosing a branch of engineering should be a well-thought-out decision, taking into consideration the long-term prospects, policies of the university, and job opportunities in the field. Doing proper research can help ensure that you make an informed decision that is right for you.

Should I take admission in mechanical at KIIT University, HBTI Kanpur or IET Lucknow?

PA
Prem Arora Posted On : November 15th, 2022
knows a little about Analog circuits

KIIT will take all of your parents' hard-earned money. They will allow your entire batch to sit in some 2 to 4 average companies through campus placement, but if you want to work for any services-based IT company, you can get admission to KIIT. If GATE/IES/PSU is your goal, it is best to study in a college that is close to your home and has lower fees.

HBTI is the best not only in UP but across the country, with an excellent alumni base dating back to 1921. Each year, the best students from UP attend this prestigious institute.

IET is not bad, but when compared to HBTI, it falls short in terms of placements, alumni base, academics, and so on.

Which college should I take for mechanical engineering? I am confused among PEC Chandigarh, NIT Kurukshetra, and NIT Jalandhar.

HS
Harish Shah Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated in 2021)

NIT Kurukshetra or PEC Chandigarh are the best options for you. You can certainly cross NIT Jalandhar off your list.

The practical labs at NITJ are not well-equipped, and the majority of the equipment is broken. The faculty, on the other hand, is excellent. You should not make NITJ your top priority.

CUSAT SOE Mechanical is better than FISAT. It is among the most reputed technological institutes in the region. CUSAT offers excellent facilities and opportunities. The Mechanical department has a brilliant faculty base.

According to CUSAT placements of recent years, the average CTC for Mechanical branch is around INR 5 LPA. Godrej, L&T, Vedanta, etc. are among the core companies that recruit through the campus drive. PSU and IT companies also recruit Mechanical Students.

Is it a fruitful decision to leave NIT Jamshedpur CSE for MNNIT Allahabad mechanical?

RK
Rahul Khanna Posted On : April 29th, 2021
Studied CSE at NIT Jamshedpur

Well, it depends upon several factors. A few of them are as mentioned below.

  • Where you possibly imagine yourself in the next 10 years and more?
  • What has been the real motivation behind your aim for pursuing engineering?
  • What is the time period you are willing to assign for reaching your goal?

There are other factors, or possible scenarios, such as,

  • Cushy CTC: In this case, CSE will be better than Mechanical Engineering.
  • Higher studies abroad: CSE and Mech both will offer similar opportunities.
  • Competitive examination: In case you would want to take the UPSC examination, IES, PSU, or several others, choosing Mechanical will be better as compared to CSE.
  • MBA from IIM: With regard to that, being a student from the mechanical department can give you an edge. As it will offer you diversity points. If however, your scores are low, then you will lose the edge.
  • Work destination: If you want to work in Gulf in the future, then choosing Mech is better. If you dream of working in the US, CSE offers better options.
  • If you have a natural affinity towards automobiles then go for Mechanical Engineering.

The above scenarios can give you possible average outcomes, but there can be vague contradictions as well. You also need to consider which subject interests you.

According to various student reviews, the preference order for CSE and Mechanical is MNNIT > NITJ. You should always give preference to the branch rather than the institute. Hope this clarifies most of your doubts.

Should I choose mechanical at Thapar or ECE at BIET Jhansi?

EP
Ekta Pandey Posted On : April 21st, 2021
Studied at BIET Jhansi (2019)

The best advice and answer for your question would be to, “Follow your heart". This is not supposed to be cliché but the best choice that you can make would be the one where you believe your career is.

If you have a keen interest in machines, automobiles, and thermodynamics, then you must opt for Mechanical Engineering. If you hold an interest in circuit branches, then you should opt for Electrical Engineering. If you realise your niche and have an honest interest in your branch then your choice of college would not matter much as the Course curriculum for Engineering is almost the same for both colleges.

A lot of people believe that Mechanical Engineering is the toughest but you should do your research before opting for your branch. Choosing the right branch will also give you enough time to prepare for CAT while attending your college.

Thapar University can be the best option if you can afford the fee. You will be given better job opportunities once you complete the degree. BIET Jhansi is recognized in UP only and the placement opportunity is very less. A few of my friends from BIET Jhansi have often complained about lack of resources and a very competitive environment.
