It’s highly illogical to compare the likes of IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati with DTU. You cannot compare a tier-1 with a tier-2 college. IITs are home to the best minds of the country and the crowd IITs attract cannot be compared to an institute like DTU. The faculty pool is refined and highly learned at IIts that are recruited through a rigorous process. IITs are funded by the central government and the campus and facilities are at another level.
Specifically talking about placements, here is a comparative analysis of the placement statistics of the aforementioned institutionsParticulars | IIT BHU | IIT Guwahati | DTU |
Number of Companies Participated | 117 | 264 | 403 |
Number of Offers | 472 | - | 2459 |
Highest CTC | INR 1.2 CPA | INR 2.4 CPA | INR 1.8 CPA |
Top Recruiters | Uber, Flipkart, Microsoft | American Express, Qualcomm, JP Morgan, C-DoT | Samsung, Instabase, Atlassian, Sprinklr, Amazon, Alphonso, Salesforce, Microsoft, Adobe, etc |
From the above table we can infer that IIT Guwahati has the best placements and DTU and IIT BHU are at the same level.
For software or circuital branches, all three of these institutes offer good placement opportunities. But if we compare among the three then IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati beats DTU, in terms of placement average, highest CTC, number of recruiters, number of international offers, etc. For branches like CSE/IT the average CTC offered at IIT BHU, IIT Guwahati, and DTU last year was INR 25 LPA, INR 20 LPA, and INR 11.17 LPA.
For core branches, only top IITs, BITS and some reputed state colleges like Jadavpur University offer decent placement opportunities. So, for core placement, DTU is way behind IIT BHU and Guwahati. DTU brings some good core recruiters but these are very few in number compared to the number of students. So, the competition to get core placements is too high at DTU.
The placements of prestigious IITs are always more than DTU due to the fact that IITs are the top institutions of India and students taking admissions in IITs have been filtered through a rigorous process of JEE Advanced.
Coming to the question, placement of a college depends on its alumni network and IIT BHU being a 100-year-old institution has a vast alumni network. IIT Guwahati too is among the top colleges of India with a NIRF ranking of 7. It's not that much old but has a good alumni network. Placements of IIT Guwahati are also good with most of the top companies visiting the campus for recruiting the students in different profiles such as Software, Management, Consultant, Data Analysts, Business Analysts, Finance, Core Engineering Profile, etc. Some of the major recruiters are Microsoft, Uber, Goldman Sachs, JPMC, IBM, Nutanix, American Express, Quad eye, Oracle, Bajaj, and Google. Based on the reports, IIT Guwahati has seen its highest package of the season from Microsoft of INR 1.5 crores in 2019-20. Over 250 companies had registered for Campus Placements.
DTU also being a good college and being situated in the metropolitan city of Delhi, it attracts most of the companies and startups located in Delhi.
